About this blog

I suppose I'll start this blog with a little history on my time with this car.. The year is 2004, I'm 16 years old and I've just purchased this Verona Red 1972 BMW 2002Tii for $1500. The Tii engine isn't in the car, but rather sitting on an old tire while a carbureted replacement is installed. My dad and I go through the car, replacing the brakes, clutch, etc and get it fit for driving. For the next year or so I slowly gather the parts to build the Tii motor, get the car painted, and redo the interior.  There's some old posts on here documenting those days, but unfortunately the photo links no longer work.

Here's what the car looked like back then...

Back on the road

I'm quite happy to report that my 2002 runs again! I was able to get her started early last week and have been going through the tuning software to optimize VE targets & timing etc.    BMW 2002 ITBs" width="200">

Wiring Harness for the ECUMaster Classic

Building the wiring harness was arguably the most difficult part of this project so far. I'm using a flying lead kit from ECUMaster which definitely made things easier since the wires are color coded and labeled.      Here's the shielded sensor wire termination & junction with the sensor ground.   Shielded wires made up the base, then I started twisting the first layer of other inputs, ground and 5v. ITBs have arrived!

Parts have arrived, and it didn't take long for me to test fit the ITBs.. They're beautiful! The red string in the photo is the beginnings of the wiring harness layout.       Unfortunately the carbon plenum won't fit over the brake booster.. Do I delete the booster or cut and mold a notch into the plenum?     The EMU Classic will sit above the tunnel on this aluminum bracket.       I pulled these injectors (0280

EFI Plan

I found the direction I wanted to go while watching a youtube clip of Matt Harrison's 2002 with ITBs. It just sounds beautiful.    I started ordering parts and learning about sensors and ECUs. I went with RHD ITBs, an ECUMaster Classic and some LS coils from the junk yard. While waiting for parts I started planning the wiring harness.       BMW 2002 m10 with ITB Throttle bodies and Ecumaster ecu" width="200">     I also did an upgrade tha

Fast forward to 2024

I moved back to Anacortes in 2022 and reunited with the Tii, however I still didn't drive it much. In fact it mostly sat in the garage awaiting a resurgence of my interest... which happened in January of 2024.    I wanted to drive it again. But I knew that after sitting for a while it would be rough, especially since it never really ran smoothly to begin with.   As many of you know, the injection system is difficult to get right, especially if the rest of the engine has been
