Toyo makes some real junk, too- I currently have 4 examples of said junk

on the ti I got from Jim P.

Surprised to hear that. The Toyo RA-1 is very popular at my local auto-x. I ended going the SS595 Federal (Legends tire) due to the better life and better wet than the Toyo.

  2. Are these a recently re-introduced item?

I could swear these weren’t available not too long ago.

I know T/A’s aren’t really considered a “performance” tire anymore, but maybe a good option for those who want the look, without going Federals or RA-1

PS So far I like my Federals, everyone says they’re no Toyo, but fortunately I’ve never had those so I don’t know the difference.

  3. Next Sunday is the first Bridge City Autosports Auto-X of the year at PIR.  A few have expressed interest, and I placed a link elsewhere in this thread for signing up. I am signed up, and if I can get my brakes done this week, I plan on going.  I will update my status as to attendance as the week goes on. They run regardless of weather. If it’s not looking good I may not go due to the fact that when your not running, you’re re-setting comes for others and I’m not sure I want to stand in the rain all day. If you go they will look for the following: seatbelts, battery secured, no excessive leaks, decent condition tires, and a current helmet (I THINK Snell2010 or better) motorcycle helmets won’t do. They have some loaner helmets. Let me know if your thinking of going or have questions signing up.

  4. Actually, that’s exactly the kind of answer I was looking for! I prefer detail and facts to back up opinions. I experienced some brake fade last year during auto-x, and was searching for cheap-ish help. I agree that the vented e21 setup would be the way to go, but it’s not in the budget right now, as my few auto-x outings last year showed me an LSD and better tires were top of the list. Thought maybe these could be some easy low hanging fruit. I think I’ll just make sure I have good performance pads, and flush out my brake fluid.

    Thanks for the info guys!

  5. I'd be interested to know what 205/60's are available for import that would be considered a "performance" tire. i'm aware of the race rubber one can get. Perhaps the new Dunlop Sport Classic? Is that a performance tire, or just a vintage looking tire?

  6. Hello everyone,

Kinda like the recent post, I'm looking for recommendations on a shop in the Portland area for building a mild/hot performance M10 head (weekend toy, auto-x)

Don't want to give money away, but am more than willing to pay for quality work and parts. I know shops for other makes, and am sure they are capable, but would rather go with someone who knows 2002's.

Am I driving to Seattle to Midnight Motorsport?

    Thanks in advance,

      John
