  1. Hi all,

I have dealt with that guy from Indonesia when I bought old style front and rear windshield seals for my '67 tilux.  His prices at the time were high but not loony-tunes ridiculous, and he shipped them quickly with no problems.  I, too, could not justify paying what he is now asking for any of his parts, particularly as the Canadian $ was worth about US $.90 at the time compared to it currently being worth 2 turds in a basket (thanks, Socialism!)  Sorry, I digress.

I have a pair of NOS NK vent window rubbers which I bought off ebay.de about a gazillion years ago.  I will eventually need them for my resto, but this thread got me thinking about the possibility of using them to 3-D print a pattern as a first step to remanufacturing them.  There must be about a hundred or so NKs left globally and most of them obviously would need vent window rubbers by now.

I personally have no background in manufacturing, so if anyone has any comments or experience in remanufacturing rubber parts, I would welcome your input.

  2. Hi Tom, your car is coming along very nicely.  Excellent progress.  As it turns out, our cars are at a very similar stage in body work.  Mine is now in primer (again for the second time).  I have been down a few detours; needing to have the front right corner pulled out a half inch to get the fender to fit, substituting the hood and trunk lid from my parts car to replace the original hood with 10 lbs of filler and the trunk lid with badly repaired pinholes under the rear lip, and finally a NOS right front door to replace the original, which would not line up at the rear corner.  Once you are at a certain stage, you may as well just keep going! Hopefully applying color next month...

    Thanks for the latest report,

  3. That would have to do with the vertical taillights vs. the horizontal, more "upscale" look of the 2000s, the filler piece on the trunk lid, and the chrome trim between the taillights.  Only Giovanni would know for sure, if he did the re-design. (and was still alive)

  4. I am wondering if there are any 2000 tiluxes out there with original panels to do a small survey.  02tom and I have been having a discussion about whether all tiluxes have no air intake snorkel in the nose panel, similar to the 2002 ti and tii, or whether variation occurred.  I maintain that my engine bay was original enough when I bought my car, based on scruffy original paint, the presence of the "roofing material" sound deadening on the inner fenders, and no overspray or masking lines, and it does have the air intake and is a genuine tilux.  Comments appreciated....

  5. Hi Tom,

After giving this more thought, I am now convinced that my car was built with the air intake snorkel.  I am basing this on the fact that, when I bought it, my car had about 5 coats of poorly applied paint on the outer panels, along with blacked out chrome and removed beltline trim.  However, the engine bay still had it's "roofing shingle" sound deadening panels intact on the inner fenders and original Granada paint present with no overspray.  Maybe a case of using whatever panels were available.

  6. Hi Tom,

You have raised an interesting point.  My own tilux is currently in primer at a "proper" restoration shop after being the victim of poor workmanship done previously.  It has a nose panel with the air intake snorkel, but the resto shop folks feel that there was collision damage years ago with sloppy welding in the corners where attached to the inner fenders.  I am now wondering if this is the original nose panel to the car.  I always thought that NKs all had the same nose panel, but a check of the blue parts book shows a unique part number for the tilux shell.  I will say that my car is early production, being  number 1234.  Do you feel that all tilux's were made with no air intake in the nose panel?

Keep up the great work.  I am enjoying watching your progress.
