  1. I'm on the north side of the city, pretty close to Goleta. It's a nice little residential area with lots of little side roads for cruising around when you're just trying to test something and don't want to actually go out on main roads.

I didn't think about that peter, I'll have to pull the wheels off and look!

  2. Yeah, it was one of the big selling points for me on renting the place we're in since I knew I would buy a classic eventually. I also found out yesterday that among all the stuff that was in the trunk, I had a Weber 32/36 and the intake to go with it. Perhaps down the line I may rebuild that and see how I like it.

  3. I'll try to get some pictures of the interior and engine later today after I get home from work. I'll be in there anyway since I bought some plugs and wires for it. Had to get an air filter that "fits" but isn't right because apparently no one around here carries the right one and the old one is awful. I'll definitely let you know if there are any questions that I have. I've got a buddy in town right now who will probably help me track down some of the issues while he's here. I would be down to go to a local vintage BMW event, for sure. I joined the SoCal group so I'll keep an eye out for it.

Everything I've seen from the forum so far it seems like a pretty great place to be and I'm really happy to be a part of it now. The car definitely got a few of the "what's that?" looks while I was driving it home, so I'm sure it'll be great to talk to people about once I really start cruising around in it.

  4. Thanks everyone, it's a pretty nice car, I'll try to post some more pictures when I get a chance to get some more taken! I have already had a chance to enjoy trying to work on the car too. I was very happy when I found out the starter was not on the bottom of the engine like the rest of the cars I have worked on. That made my life much easier when I had to change it in a parking lot!

Carl, that would probably be a good idea indeed! I can't wait to start getting out and talking to some of the other 2002 owners and seeing what they have done to their cars. I have gotten a lot of great ideas and tips in the past by doing so.

I am definitely planning to get the Haynes manual and Restoration Guide. I've been thinking about buying them for a little while, but I figured I'd wait until I actually had a 2002 to buy them. Guess my waiting time is finally up.

Buckeye, that is an awesome idea and it looks great! I'm going to have to look into getting that added in while I'm digging around in all the other electrical stuff. I really like the way it looks in the pictures from that thread.

  5. Hey Everybody!

I've been hanging around for a while enjoying all of the builds and info everyone has about their 2002, and now I have finally bought one for myself! I picked up a '72 2002 yesterday and I have begun what I'm sure will be a long love/hate relationship with this car. On the way home it ran out of gas and then killed its starter 60 miles from home. It also has its share of electrical and safety gremlins I'll need to sort out before I can really start driving it, but I do love it so far! Since buying it ate all my money, I figured that since I can't fix it yet I might as well clean it, so I detailed it for about 4 hours today and now at least it's clean! Anyway, I'm glad to be a part of this community now and I am definitely looking forward to everything that is to come with this wonderful car.
