Hi FAQ
I'm looking at getting Gaz coilovers for the 02 now. Is anyone on here running them? These seem very reasonably priced, but does anyone know just how low they can go? It says 65mm which doesn't sound a whole lot to me.
Also, I've heard the rear will need strengthening. Does anyone know what needs to be done in terms of what and where to do the strengthening?
Cheers in advance
-
Yes, something along those lines Eurotrash.
-
Cheers for all the replies
Just to be clear, I want a cheaper alternative to full coilovers. I've cut two coils off front and rear to get an idea of how I want it to sit roughly, so I can line up where the rabbit arches will sit. I don't want to run as it is as they nearly drop out when it's jacked up!
I want the car to sit similar to GrigioMpwr's car on here
How do I get mine to sit like this without the need for coilovers?
And when we say inserts, do we mean the shocks/dampers?
-
I like the sound of that price!
Is this what you've done to your car Dirtsquirt? And is there any modifying of parts in this application?
-
Cheers for the reply Toby
I've seen Ireland engineering do them around $1500? The way I'm spending money on this car, I doubt I'll be able to justify such an amount. I'm not discounting springs and dampers, or another alternative, but need to keep the spend as reasonable as possible, but at the same time get her as low as possible.
-
No sorry, it's a Nissan Skyline R32gtr. Handles fairly well as you can imagine.
This car has to look good (stance if you must), and sound like it's fast. And it just needs to get me to Le Mans in June. Once home I'll think about my 1602 and getting that restored.
is there a short damper/Spring combo to get what I need?
I've never done any modifications like this. I've usually just gone with the crowd and bought what everyone else goes for (money permitting!)
Father of three, I'm fitting mk1 golf flares, so clearance doesn't seem an issue

Hi FAQ
I'm getting near the stage where I need to sort out my suspension setup.
I've got the wheels (15x8 et0) and now I want to sort the ride height.
I'm looking at getting it pretty low. I've decided this car will be the show car, and my other 02 will get built standard looking. I've got the 32 for all the performance/handling I need.
I've cut 2coils from the standard springs to get an idea of what's needed to get the height I want. The front looks a little high to me still. So apart from the full coilover setups (I don't have that sort of dough to lay out right now), what can I do to get it lower?

If there's any wheel gurus on here, I've found somewhere that bands the wheels for a decent price, but need to know if the sizes will work for me
Bearing in mind I'm going for VW golf flares, would 15x9 et 11.5 go in the back with 8's et 25 for the front?
the size options are
15x9 et 11.5
15x8.5 et 18
15x8 et 25
15x7.5 et 30
What's the widest I can go front and back with these options?
Any help much appreciated guys
-
Cheers for the reply Toby.
It's roughly 50/50 poke and handling. The width wouldn't be that important if an 8" wheel brought it out to the flared arch. I just want the wheel to be as close to the flare as possible. It seems to me that the wider the better for both the aesthetics and handling. Win win, surely!

Hi guys. Hope you had a great Christmas
I'm looking at buying some banded steels for my project, which will have VW golf arches on it. I'm finding it a bit tricky to get these on myself, as I'm no welder by any stretch, so I'm entrusting someone in the know to do it for me. The problem is, he wants the wheels I'll be running on first to see what he needs to do with the arches.
Seeing as I'm banding steel wheels, I can make em any width I want, but do any of you lot know what the ideal width and offset would be? I was thinking 9" for the tears, but what sort of offset do I need to clear the bits behind?
I can't get my head around the widths and how the offset affects it all. Hoping there's a few gurus on here to point this complete novice in the right direction.
Cheers

Sorry to bump an old thread, but Eurotrash, is that your red 02 you've posted with the VW flares? If so, I really need help with wheel specs on mine, which will eventually be running these arches
-
I'd say Yorkshire boys ride height looks pretty good on the rear. How I'd want mine to look front and rear.
-
So maybe spax dampers with a shorter overall Spring sounds a good bet?
The problem I'm anticipating is how close I want my wheels/tyres to the golf arches. As long as I can get it low, I'll be happy for now. I don't need this car to do the speed or handling straight out the bag. It needs the right look from the start. I'll re-visit bits I'm not too happy with. As long as it's ready for Le Mans in June.

I've found you can fit 15x8 et 20 under the rear arches with just a gentle rolling
What is your suspension set up mate? I need to go as low as possible with out going all out with the coilovers etc. I need to keep this build as cheap as poss. I'm not cutting corners, but banded steels instead of BBS's etc are the corners I'm cutting

Cheers Fatherof3
Ill look at getting some 9" steels made up as soon as poss. Surely the golf arches will get me an extra 2" of width!

Hi guys.
I've been right through this thread looking at people's ride heights and wheels etc, but it's baffling the hell out of me!
I want to run banded 14's, maybe 15's at a push, and I'll be putting VW golf arches on there too.
With standard arches, what's a good wheel width and offset? Also, if I add an inch or two to the outer rim of the wheel, does that increase or decrease the offset number?
Told you I'm clueless to this!
-
Cheers for the reply
I'm thinking of running banded steels on the car, so I suppose I can make the wheels for the arches once they're on.
I've got a 17x7 sitting on the car at the moment, so once I start with the arch, I'll centre them with this wheel.
If anyone has any other tips for fitting, I'm all ears!

Thanks Lars
I received the parts today. Excellent lead time. I only ordered the bits on Wednesday!

Good evening FAQ
I'm working towards the rear arches on the 02, and am starting to think about welding these in.
I'm sure there's a couple guys on here that have done this already on here.
They're of course not the same shape as the 02 arches, but do I install the top dead centre of the golf arches to the same point of the 02 arches, or do the tips of the golf arches sit above the 02 arch?
I hope this makes sense
Cheers in advance

Hi faq
I'm about to order a few panels from W&N and wondered if anyone on here has used the same pieces.
I need the lower section of the rear panel, but does anyone know if it covers and finishes above the edge of the boot floor?
And also, the same question for the rear lower section of the quarter panels (the lowest section behind the rear wheels
Cheers in advance for your input.

What colour is the car originally OP?

Evening all
Does anyone know anything about the body kit (and in particular the wide arches) on this car? I would love the big bubble arches on my 02, but I'm having trouble finding out anything about the car, especially through their site
Cheers in advance

Thanks pilot. I'd bite your hand off for it but I'm in the uk. If love to see photos of the process though if you have any
Is my bootlid crap?

Screwed up the pics
Hi FAQ
Ive been cleaning up my bootlid for the 02 project, but it doesn't look right to me. The edges look like they flare out where it would normally meet the rear quarter waistline trim (although I've deleted mine). Also, the edge sitting above the rear panel seems more curved than the rest panel, and also sits out further than the rear panel itself.
im not sure how these should be fitting, but it doesn't seem right to me
can anyone shed some light on this for me please
cheers
