  2. thank you sir thats what i was after
  3. well iv switched to solid state (petronix) gin. and set timing by ear but am afraid to go far cause i haven't been able to find a good write up on ignition timing and its totally different than a small block chevy. I'm assuming you use the hole in the bell housing but other than that I'm lost. any input or a link would be great. thanks all
  4. so i drove my new 74 home with a new block and head in the trunk plus 2 boxes of misc parts. now i purchased the car knowing it had engine issues i.e. a bit of oil in the coolant , po said he had the head off and the block is cracked. iv got a head and block but was planning on a port and polish and a cam bump. if the bottom end needs work then machining and some pistons etc. my question is for any experienced engine folks on here have any gains been found in any bowl blending port and polish and would that be primarily a track only deal . and dousing my searching i looks to be that iv got an e12 head and about 8-1 compression, any issues running 9.5-1 pistons on pump gas on the street? I'm vary experienced with americn v-8's and this will be my first performance based 4-cyl build . any thoughts or opinions are welcome and appreciated.

  7. so im picking a 74 up today and I'm way excited! I do have a couple questions though.1) is there a preferred manual i.e. hayns or chiltons 2) iv searched the forum and can't find exactly how the struts are put together , i assume the tubes are part of the "knuckle" and have a "shock" assembly drops into the tube?holding the spring at the top. 3) A parts interchange for brakes in the FAQ's would be awsome like what bearings rotors calipers etc work for brake upgrades iv seen volvo parts used? if this info is there and i missed it sorry. You all rock and this forum as well thanks for the input and thanks for making an '02 newbie feel welcome

  13. greetings all just sorta wanted to say hello and introduce myself as well as ask for any advice you all have for a new to 2002's gear head. I am Bo and iv been a mechanic since 95' done diesel and automotive repairs, currently have a 66' chevy truck 61' chevy suburban (my wifes) a 62 chevy 2 nova and in a couple days will be picking up a 74' 2002. iv always liked the 2002's and found one locally in fair shape relatively rust free runs but has oil in the coolant. it comes with another engine block and head as well as another carb and mics. odds and ends. i heard it run and seemed to run ok, but we will see apron getting it home. so I was wondering if you all could share any decent parts dealers/performance part warehouses aside from ireland (?) racing please. and where is a good source for engine parts as i will probably re-build the second engine if needed with a little performance bump. possibly a little port and polish etc.. any way i will quit blithering . oh if it matters i plan on daily driving and possibly occasional autocross days. thanks
