  1. UPDATE: Spent better part of yesterday to no avail! I've disassembled everything, fiddled with this and that but the cylinder is keeping me out. I've searched the forum and through glassing eyes can't seem to locate the "removing ignition cylinder" post. This there a link or two you can send me. Also, through a phone call with a local mechanic (Chicago) he suggested removing the entire housing that wraps the steering column and contains the ignition assembly -- by removing the 2 sheared screws holding it together -- this seems a bit extreme to remove the cylinder... Any suggestions would be appreciated! Mike '74 2002tii Inka
  2. Thanks all, I'll check through tomorrow and hope these suggestions shed some light. At the very least I have direction -- so thanks for that. I'll let you know what's up for future works. To be continued... Mike '74 2002tii Inka
  3. I've tried it all -- but no luck. I'm wondering if 35 years of pushing a pulling left enough metal in the lock to jam the key. I'm at a loss. No locksmith around me to deal with an old car (Chicagoland) - the BMW dealer is useless for this stuff... Holding out hope you all have a direction to pursue... Mike
  4. Help! I'm a clueless newbie -- 1974 2002tii. I drained the battery by leaving the lights on, jumped the car -- no problem. Next day I jumped in, ignition key won't turn -- Won't even slip into the lock. 2 Red light pop up on the instrument panel and nothing... Do I need a new ignition set? Am I doing something stupid, is there an electric switch I may have fried? Any help with be appreciated... Mike
  5. Hey Bryce, Just left you a phone message... I'm in the middle of a complete respray and looking for all the exterior trim pieces from top to bottom -- for a '74 2002tii. Also in need of rear tail lights as well as some interior parts. Ideally all in excellent condition -- any help would be appreciated! Mike
  6. I'm a total newbie owner of '74 2002tii -- has anyone had any dealing with this shop in Libertyville, IL? Just wondering where I can get a complete diagnosis and recommendations for a complete rebuild -- at least to the heavier stuff I can't tackle in my tiny garage. Thanks!
