I recently installed a 320i 5 speed in my o2. It seems like in between changing the seals on the output flange and the main shifter rod, I must of damaged something or removed a detent ball. I am able to shift into upward gears ( i think it's 1st, 3rd, and 5th) but don't have that positive fell like when I shift downwards (2nd and 4th). I am definitely not engaged because when I release the clutch pedal the rear tires don't spin and when I forcefully try to shift in the gears I hear a grinding noise. I have the car on jack stands so there is no load on the rear tires. The transmission engages in 2nd and 4th; the tires do spin in those gears.
I just disassembled the shifter and parts connected to the main rod that goes internally in the transmission. If I push the rod in and try to spin the driveshaft, I can't since the gears are engaged but when I pull the rod out and do the same I hear a clicking noise as if something is not meshing completely inside of the transmission. Hopefully I did not chew something up while I was zapping off and zapping on the output flange nut with my impact gun. Any ideas as to what I should do?
At this point I'm temped to remove the rear casing of the transmission to see if I damaged anything while removing the output flange nut. I might just remove the whole trans just to make it easier on my back. Any suggestions I would greatly appreciate. Does anyone have an exploded diagram view of the 320i 5 speed that is usually in the service repair manuals?
