5 seater? That may be a bit of a stretch. I tried it for a drive to a friends house that is in my neighborhood, neither the car nor the passengers was too pleased.

I'm up in Rohnert Park, and I would like to point out that although I could probably make any drive, Napa valley and wine country is just a short jaunt to the north!

Mike congrats and I'm jelous, it would be cool to be the original owner of a classic that you still enjoy.
Maybe I'm not the only one?:
Favorite part of aquiring a another car, and the first thing I usually do (aka the honeymoon) after towing it home is going through the glovebox papers to get an idea of where its been. I enjoy seeing the dates and places on old repair receipts etc...like a time capsule.
I really really like finding the original owners manual with the proud new owner's name and address neatly printed inside. I usually spend some time Googling to get a street view of the car's first home and seeing what I can find out about the person.
I couldn't agree more! We were cleaning up a 55 Chevy Bel Air a while back, and there were all sorts of love notes, hippy beads, and even a bunch of old blue chip stamps in the glove box!

My father has Grundy on his 39 Chevy hot rod, they are very selective about what they insure. They wanted proof from my dad that he had another car to drive and that it wasn't his daily driver, and they sent someone out to make sure the car was valued correctly. Maybe that's with his specific policy, however. No claims. (fingers crossed)

Leave it to the General! Been there, done that.

I'm planning on going to Cars and Coffee in San Jose this saturday, if anyone is interested. It would be great to have a group of us down there.

It starts at 8 am, and goes to 10. I was planning on getting there around 7-7:30, I hear it fills pretty quick.

Thanks to all for the positive feedback, I'll give it a good home.
It is actually the road that runs up to the Concord Police Academy, right next to Highway 4.
CJ, it is Jose's old car. Would you know how to get in touch with him? I misplaced his phone # and i never had his email.

Well, new to me anyway. It does have the big crash bumpers and square taillights, but the car wears its original paint more proudly. It also has a 5 speed conversion done, recaro seats, a shock tower brace, bilstein HD's all around, and a couple other things here and there. This car is so much tighter than that last one was though, all the bushings are nice and fresh. What a difference! Without further adieu, I give you a photographic attempt at justice.
Anyone wishing to see all the shots or just click randomly through my car photography can go here.

I drive my 02 with it's tired, mongrel junkyard engine on the freeway at 80 all the time and it loves it. I noticed on the speedo there are red marks at 55 and 80ish, which I'm guessing refers to some outdated German speed limit or something. Whatever the case, the engine note turns from a course growl into a smooth whisper at around this speed. It does seem like it was designed to cruise at this speed..
The red marks are the shift points on the stock 4 speed and 3.64 rear end. Many of these cars had a clock instead of a tach, so they used those red marks to show the highest point for each gear.
On the topic at hand, I had a 4 speed in my 72. It was a fantastic car to drive, but 4K on the freeway wasn't that bad. I just had the radio blasting. The pickup it had at freeway speeds in high gear was pretty nice though, you never had to change to 3rd.
The 75 I have now has a 5 speed in it and it is much more relaxed to drive on a long trip, and it does improve MPG a couple numbers. But for passing, it is required to drop a cog or 2, and some steeper interstate hills require this as well. Doesn't bother me one bit, I just love shifting. I find it one of the fast disappearing joys in life.

My father built a shop in our backyard about 10 years ago, but due to zoning it couldn't have a lift. We built it as big and tall as zoning would allow. The radiant heating is excellent, but we can't use it because the roof hasn't been insulated yet! We ran it that first winter and the power bill tripled!

Thanks! It's goin pretty slow, I'm getting nervous. Fingers crossed!

I think everything has been pretty much covered, but it is also a good idea to crank the engine over a couple times before adding fresh fuel so as to build some oil pressure. Best of luck, I've done similar things with many a car!

I am selling my beloved 72 roundie, it has been a great starter car for me and is truly a solid base for the right person! Car is located in the east bay area, contact if you wish to view the car. Happy holidays!

I'm looking for a front kidney grille for a 73 Tii, located in the east bay area. Anyone have one around?
-
I'm near the intersection of Concord Blvd and Clayton Way. Pittsburg?
-
thank your father for removing temptation. it looked like it has a moonroof on it. that can be removed without too much effort. i may have a patch panel for him when i get around to swapping in my sunroof. i'd offer up another sunroof section but i may need it for parts. where's the car's new location?
It does have an aftermarket moonroof on it, please let me know if that patch panel does become available. The car's new location is in Concord.

My dad saved it, which is strange considering he's always been the american muscle car guy. I told him that I converted him, he said I bankrupted him, so I guess its all in perspective.

OK. Thanks for the input. It just started coming down hard, I ran outside to check and it is coming through the bottom corner of the windshield on the driver's side, so that's definitely my problem. I will spend the extra $ for a BMW seal.
-
I was suspecting the windsheild seal, especially because it is cracking. :S I too am curious where you got yours, I have had trouble finding one as well.
-
With the recent rain hitting the Golden State, my car seems to be less than amused. There is a leak hitting my feet as I drive along and it is saturating my carpet! I would assume this is a windshield seal, which is all well and good. I need a new windshield anyway as mine is cracked, but I can't find anywhere to buy a new seal! I think the rear window seal is leaking as well, because there is a bit of water in the trunk near the shock towers. Any words of buying advice are appreciated!

Well, it didn't go as well as planned. Namely, I didn't get to see the car. The seller cancelled on me twice at the last minute, and he couldn't seem to get his story straight. He told me I would have first priority to see the car, and he would call me to set a time. He never called, and this morning he calls to ask if I am still interested, because there is another guy there looking at the car! I told him I was no longer interested. Oh well, back to craigslist!
-
Thanks guys, I will do my best! I will be sure to let you know how it goes.
-
Thanks for the info, will make sure those lines don't pop! The seller actually said he was able to get the car running and driving already, so I should be able to test drive it around the parking lot at least. Would someone be willing to go look at it with me on Wednesday?
Garage space in the Rohnert Park, CA Area?
in BMW 2002 and other '02
Posted
I am a student at Sonoma State University, a school that offers no covered parking. The rainfall in the next week looks like it is going to be torrential, and sadly it rains inside my car! I have a new windshield on order, but would anyone in the area be willing to let me use their garage until the rain stops? I wouldn't be in and out using the car all the time, I just need to store it until my windshield comes in. A car cover could work too. Any temporary ideas or friendly people would be much appreciated! I already have a couple containers in the footwell, but I need to empty them every 2 hours at the moment. I may be able to offer compensation for said space.
