  1. Lost the plastic part for the seat recline lever for my 76' 2002 the other day and was hoping a kind soul here had one for us! Lemme Know!
  2. Well........... Im guessing it was a loose connection to the solenoid, as after having the starter tested at 2 different places I re-installed it and it has fired up w/out an issue. Will advise if anything changes. Thanks again for the trouble shooting!
  3. Just wanted to clarify, that the lights that go off are the dash/instrument lights not the headlights. Who knows, maybe theyre going off as well. So if the wire hitting the solenoid is reading at 12V when I turn it to start and the solenoid/starter are not testing bad, what could it be? A ground on the solenoid? Thanks for the advice.
  4. I am having an intermitant problem starting my 76' 2002. When I turn the switch to the start position, all of the dash lights go dead and the solenoid doesnt fire..... just a quiet click. I push started the car and it fired up fine, then the engine started just fine for a few times.. then the same no start problem returned. My buddy thought it might be a dead spot on the solenoid, so we pulled the starter and took it to autozone and had it tested. It fired up about 25 times, so the guy said it wasnt the problem. The voltmeter read a little over 12V at the solenoid wire when the key was turned to start. ANY IDEAS? Take it to a starter rebuild guy to get a second oppinion ? Any chance the actual ignition switch has a short? Thanks in advance.... you all are great!
  5. UPDATE! Got the lock cylinder out and the mechanism seems sound(turns to all positions and key is able to be removed in the off position). But when I put everything back together the key is able to be removed in the Fahrt position and advances to the start position, but will not turn counterclockwise past Fahrt. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM? Mike..... that article would be great if you could forward it to petsinfocus@yahoo.com
  6. A bit more info might help. The key is stuck in the "Fahrt" and can advance to the start position, and is able to be removed in the "fahrt" position, but wont turn any further counterclockwise.
  7. So I have isolated my ignition woes to the actual key mechanism. After using the search function I tried removing the actual key cylinder..... I drilled out the set screw on the bottom and the mechanism still doesnt come out. 2 questions..... how deep was I supposed to drill to free the lock mechanism? I keep reading about previous articles/publications regarding this process, but cant find any. Could someone please forward them or post me a link? Thanks again to everyone who has helped me so far!!!
  8. GOT IT TO TURN OVER!!!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I just wasnt pushing the ig. switch far enough clockwise. Now I guess I just need to figure out what is jamming the key mechanism. I have a strange feeling that it has something to do with the steering wheel lock, as that is what started this whole mess.
  9. Thanks Mike! You all have been SUPER helpful!!!!!! So to paraphrase........ with a screwdriver, going from the 2nd position to the 3rd position should have some(spring loaded) resistance and pop back to the middle position when I turn it fully clockwise and release? Mine is going all the way to the 3rd(fully clockwise position) without engaging the starter or popping back to the middle position. So I am guessing that the quickest/cost effective way to proceed would be to find a working ignition switch to see if that is the offending part!
  10. OK......... When this started this afternoon, none of the dash lights or stereo would come on. Now I removed the ignition switch(with the 2 flat head screws, leads still attached). I can now stick a philips head driver in there and everything lights up and the stereo comes on, but the car wont crank. How can I get the starter to turn with the lockset bypassed? Im assuming that this is going to be an issue of just replacing the lockset or the actual switch, am I correct in this assumption? Thanks in advance!!!!
  11. Thanks.... wish I could find out how to trouble shoot it to see if I need the whole new switch with the key/lock or if its just the switch.
  12. On a tight budget and was hoping someone had an ignition switch that would work in my 76! Good Karma to follow!!!
  13. OK...... so today when my wife trys to star thte 76' 2002, she cant get the key to turn, so I get in there and turn the wheel until the key turns....... still wont turn....... so I really wrench the wheel till the key moves, but now nothing happens when I turn the key, none of the instrument lights come on, the starter doesnt turn....NOTHING!!!! Its not the battery, as all of the lights work. Any help trouble shooting this would be greatly appreciated. Any way to bypass the key to get it to my friends shop? Thanks in advance!!!!
  14. Thanks all!!!! After TS Fay passes, I will get it done!
  15. Any suggestions on what adhesive to use to reattach the door seal stripping on my 2002? I tried 3m 77 and it didnt hold. Thanks!!!
