  1. I am not sure that the front end is a 74, the front marker lights are from a 67 . yes the front was painted, ( red primer) as you can see the center grill was damaged, being in Wisconsin probably a deer hit. the 74 and 67 fronts do look similar but there are differences in the bumpers I think.
  2. Apparently the little old lady would drive it in Wisconsin in Summer then drive it to California for winter... so hopefully it will be fine for the trip , my only concern is finding parts for the 6 volt system if there are problems on the trip. luckily it is a mechanically simple car so everything else will be fixable We won't ever be rallying the car, not in speed rallies anyways, so we will drive reasonably.
  3. Here is the barn find car, it has 44K miles , and was owned by the stereotypical little old lady that drove it to church on Sundays. The body is solid , the paint is original or mostly though not great, it needs new weather stripping all around and a fuel pump, the motor is loose and turns. I would like to change the ignition from points to CDI but have not found one yet. It has not been run for 25 years. It will be a winter project to get the mechanicals all in order. The plan is to drive the original route 66 with it. I won't paint it for now , at least not until after we run Route 66's original roads (or as many of the roads as we can find). I will need to find a German 6 volt radio that I can modify to accept Sirius sat radio. Looking at the tags, I suspect that it was a 6 volt imported from Germany though I am not sure, I'll have to get the VIN checked.
  4. thanks All. most likely I will leave it a 6 volt, as long as all works, the intent is to use it on a drive on Route 66 when it is mechanically restored. it is a rare vehicle after all. but it does need to be driven.
  5. thanks Simeon ,I am still undecided about the switch but we would like to use the car on a tour of route 66 some time, so will probably do the switch. I suspect I may be able to fit a later model 12V alternator and its brackets if I can find them. then there will be all the bulbs blinkers and gauges, the electric fuel pump needs replacement, I suspect someone may have used a 12v battery instead of a 6V battery and fried it
  6. the battery does not say the voltage, and I am not sure if the battery is the correct one , this was a barn find
  7. the battery is dead so I can't check, It looks like it has a generator instead of an alternator
  8. I have a 1967 BMW 1600. Vin # 1519968, I think that it has a 6 volt electrical but I am not sure. how can I tell what the voltage of the system ? And is it worth converting to 12 volt? or should it be left original?
