  1. I had similar symptoms on an old e28 that I thought were synchros. I stripped the car out for another project and sold what was left (including the "bad" tranny) to a guy with an e28 he was rebuilding. Turns out it wasn't synchros, but two broken springs on the clutch. Also turns out the tranny was a Metric Mechanics overdrive sport transmission. Probably worth about $3,500. He got nearly the entire car minus some "is" specific stuff for $500. OUCH!!

  2. I posted one awhile ago that I copied off the internet.

    http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,295769/highlight,roll+bar/

You cant see the mounting very well though so I'd be interested in seeing some closer ones. I was kind of interested in doing something similar.

From this photo it seems to put the bar above your head rather than behind it. I was worried about helmet clearance/contact.

cashel's site: www.bmw02.de lists it and has a photo. Does that mean you can order it? Not too familiar with that site.

  3. How about the underside of the trunk lid? It couldn't have faded that much.

Option 2 have them mix up a small batch of single stage, paint a sample sheet and then shoot that with the elctrochormo thingy.

It'll probably cost a couple hundred extra bucks, but what is that compared to the cost of the entire paint job and getting it done the way you want. I'd hate to be too cheap to spend the couple hundred bucks and then have to live with a $5,000 paint job that I hate.

Plus you'll have the single stage sample and when they mix up the BC/CC they can shoot a comparison sample on the same sheet before painting the whole car and then you'll know how well matched it is.

Of course you should be aware that all this advice is coming from a guy who's car is two different "interpretations" of Nevada. (Thanks to a PO.)

  4. The auction was for preapproved bidders so you couldn't click buy it now unless you called the seller first and he put you on his approved list.

Could have been a scam, could have been a real car for sale and the seller was trying to promote it. My guess was he was trying to scam ebay. Make the buyer call him, prearrange a real price of $100,000 and then allow the buyer to "buy it now" for $4,900. Saves him a bundle on the sales fee.

He probably got a million "i'll buy it for $4,900" emails and pulled the ad.

    That's my guess.

  6. I removed the rubber spacers on my e30 cabrio a few years ago with no problem. I was concerned about the metal on metal. so I took an old softner salt bag - the ones made out of real heavy plastic - and cut new spacers. Works beatifully. (I washed the salt off real good before I installed them though.)

  7. It is a sharp color. Really jumps out at you and uniquely of that era. Any car can be silver.

But I still love the Inka cars. My Nevada has really grown on me and since its two different interpretations of Nevada if I ever get bored with one I can just go stand on the other side and its a different color. Who needs that expensive color changing paint. Just hire two different incompetent body guys.

Oddly the car is still sitting there today. Its like they shoved it out the door and it rolled until it hit the curb. They have a parking lot, but its sitting in the driveway. Its a really nice 02, not a parts car.

If its still there tomorrow I may have to stop and investigate or my curiosity will kill me.

  8. I was browsing the net not too long ago and came across an original Alpina road car for sale.

The interior shots showed this roll bar.

Anyone know if Alpina actually made bars for their road cars like this?

Its an interesting concept. While it certainly wouldn't work for a race car, it would marginally ad some roll over safety to a street, autox, drivers school car, while allowing safe use of the rear seat. I would likely add a removable cross brace for a little more rigidity. But mostly it would be something of a sport bar - as much for looks as anything else.

The primary problem I see with it though is that when I look at my car it seems that the placement would put it directly above my head. If it is tilted back to sit behind the seat a little then it leans too close to the seatbelt bracket for it to be useful.

Anyone seen a good functional rollbar that doesn't require removal of the rear seat? I like the look of having a rear seat - even though no one ever sits back there.
