  1. I was poking around on a few of the linked sites and for the original fender(s), they are asking $900! That is twice the price of the car that I had picked up. My goal is not nessesarily a show car and I don't care if the body is not all original metal. A lot of the body is starting to show very bad rust. the area under the rear wheels (quarter panel) is actually flaking off pieces of rust. As far as I can tell it is the body and not the structural metal that is flaking off. I HATE the idea of spending a ton of money and elbow greese to try and recover the original metal by grafting in new metal...bending it...bondo-ing...and sanding the heck out of it. If I could simple pick up some fiberglass fenders that would bolt into place, I would be set! Do you happen to have a link to the fiberglass dealer?
  2. For people that have lightened their cars (for track, auto-x, or drag) how much junk can be taken out? Is it possible to shave 100lbs or so without cutting out any metal? For a hillclimb/drag car that would only need two seats, and some gauges, so all the back seat stuff can go as can most of the dash and accesories like the heater and wipers...things like that. I don't suppose anyone makes aftermarket fiberglass fenders. The old ones are a bit rusty. That would be nice to both lighten the car and do away with rust in the same strokke. It would be very cool to get the weighgt down to 2002 lbs.
  3. Yeah I was really disapointed when I took a closer look at the rusted area around the rear wheels. It looks like the rust has gone all the way through the body. It was a washington state car that spent a lot of time in the cold and rain. Instead of killing myself to get the body panels fixed, I wonder if anyone makes fiberglass panels? Hmm... The SR20 engine might keep up until you spin a rod bearing! J/k. I love those motors too. There seems to be a TON of room in the engine bay when you consider the large sheet metal piece near the hood hinge can go away and the extra area can be used for an intercooler and its piping. The only area I'm not too sure of is the bell housing. I also gotta research the rear differential a bit more. When did BMW start putting LSD in it's cars. I had an e30 318i that was open but I thought the 325's were limited slip.
  4. Hi y'all! I am a newbee that has come into ownership of an old 2002 (from a brother). The car is in good shape sans the engine. I come from a DSM background (evos-eclipses-talons) that all run the 4g63 so I am familiar with the engine and know what they are capable of. So my obvious question is, "has anyone done this motor conversion before? Yes, I did use the search button but to no success. I see many people swapping in the m20 engine but I have a doner car just waiting for the engine to be taken out of it. It may be sacreligious to put a japanese motor in a bmw but that is just how it is going to be so no need to flame me. I have alredy found a bellhousing adapter that mates the 4G63 motor to a supra tranny so that it is in the proper longitudinal layout. The bay seems like it would have plenty of room and the weight difference can't be that much since both are cast iron 4 bangers. My main concern would be the output shaft of the tranny to the rear diff. I imagine the rear difff isn't overly strong. Is is possible to swap a diff from a 5 series or even the old 6 series? Sorry for all the questions. I wanted to see if anyone had actually done this swap. The allure of 400 turbo horses with 2000 lbs seems SO right to me!
