  6. It was time to remedy the sorry looking dash top on my 67 2000. A PO had long ago recovered it in brown and in the process glued and screwed the defroster vents to their respective openings. The vents had to be replaced as well.

This is what I had to stare at every time I drove it: (note the brown glove box handle 🙄)

    IMG_3223.thumb.jpeg.a91bee0f6846d8c9b0e93995d1ced342.jpeg

Removing it was not to difficult. IMG_3296.thumb.jpeg.b682d86bcab3a9950f69c0337d0146b6.jpeg

But the vinyl backing and glue were baked onto the dash and had to be sanded off.

Then I had to fix old repairs. I found a hole in the poly foam the size of my thumb that had been filled with a paper towel and black caulk. I filled it  and other large cracks with Gorilla glue that expands when it drys and is easily carved and sanded.

Finally I used plastic filler and sanded it smooth.

I didn’t trust my self to do the actual recovering so I took it to an auto upholstery shop. Pricey, but it was the right move.

Had the grab handle end pieces 3D printed. The end results. Much easier to live with:

I've got some black PETG loaded up right now, I could try to run a test print sometime in the next day or so when I go to do my next batch of prints (printer is at my parents house, haven't moved it since leveling is a PITA). Curious how the fuzzy skin option will turn out.

Avoid printing in PLA, its notorious for warping in car interiors.

Awesome. Keep me posted. PM me.

  8. Hello All.,
I’m in the process of restoring the dashboard top on my 67 NK sedan. The passenger side grab handle has two finish pieces that are gone on my car and are NLA. Someone has created a file to 3D print them. Link below. I don’t have access to a 3D printer. Anyone here able to print them? (Will pay for it of course) Or point to a service that can?

I‘m sure there would be interest on the NK forum.
    Thanks
    John

Support is always welcome ;) left and right Covers for grab handles. Spare Part for following BMW "Neue Klasse" Models: 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800, 2000 The left cover requires support structure as seen in the screenshot; i recommend using the tree structure.  You can either print, grind...

  9. I’m in the process of replacing the mutilated glove box in my 67 2000 with early dash. A previous owner had a cd player installed. The box in my car is plastic as pictured below. Has anyone seen a plastic one before? I’m replacing it with the more common flocked cardboard version. Every photo I can find on the internet show the card board version. I don’t expect any fitment issues just curious as to why. Could it have been a later BMW replacement part?

    the gruesome remains:

I know this is the wrong hose, it’s what was in there. I have a proper fitting hose. Sound deadening will be replaced.
