...he's working with 16gauge steel or thereabouts where our floor pan is like 20-22 gauge...
I just welded in a few small patches and the floor in my '73 was 18 gauge FWIW

Ok thanks guys. I did find some at the good local hardware store but the head side only had 10mm of threads. They would probably work but I'll just reorder the correct OEM ones and work on other projects in the meantime.
Cheers

I ordered a set of exhaust manifold studs from Pelican and received continuously threaded studs with no shoulder. Are these ok to use or should I find some studs with a shoulder? I've read conflicting statements on the internet. Thanks!

Thanks guys! I'll fab up a replacement to keep the car as close to stock as possible. Cheers!

Yea at first I thought they were factory but there is some other welding work on the car that is definitely not factory.
Thanks for reposting the pictures, I must have forgotten how to do it!

Would you happen to have any bule vinyl for door cards?
-
Hey Chris, thanks for the update, sorry to hear times have been rough lately but it sounds like you have a plan to get the business figured out.
I have a set of your shorty SS bumpers on my '73 and I think they look great! I have been thinking about ditching the front over-riders for a set of seam covers though. I see they are listed on your website, should I place an order or would it be better to wait until you clear the backlog. Is this an item you will be keeping stocked going forward or will you only be selling full bumper kits?
Thanks for continuing to support the 02 community!

Do you have any other blue interior parts? Looking specifically for really nice uncut front door cards

Have you ever driven a 912? Designed as the low budget brother of the 911 felt like crap when I drove a "Perfect" one.
There must have been something wrong with the 912 that you drove if it felt like crap. At the factory Porsche set up the suspension on the 912 a couple inches higher than the 911 so the 911 would be faster in the twisties - a correctly set up 912 can sometimes out perform a 911 on a really tight road due to better balance with less weight in the rear. I currently own a 912 and a tii and I love both, but to be totally honest the 912 handles better than my 02.

Neat to see them together. I have a 912 and a roundie 2002 but never get them out together. They are both great cars in their own way.

I got belts from him about 18 months ago. They are great and I feel fine with my kids in the back now that I have 3-point belts. He's a good guy and easy to work with.

What color is the interior?

My '73 has it next to the air cleaner so it must have been when they made the big 73-74 changes. The closest Exide dealer I've found is an hour north of me, which I can do, but if anyone knows another option or a mail order possibility I'm all ears.
-
Thanks for the info Steve, I'll try to locate a local Exide dealer.

I've searched the archives and wasn't able to turn up a source for the group 26r battery with the hold down tabs on the end. It's no problem for me to find a 26r battery locally but none have the tabs in the right spot.
I can order a Bosch but heard rumors those are not correct anymore either?
Any advice much appreciated.

I had a set of these on a Datsun Roadster years ago. Not sure if they're the same but you could look into it.
-
Is that the correct battery hold down for a tii? Not sure if they're different than a regular 02.

...I came to my 2002 at 20 after having a motorcycle wreck, I always felt the 2002 was much safer and was happy with that...Barney
I also got into classic cars after multiple motorcycle crashes age 19-23. Only now after I have kids do I understand the relief that my parents must have felt when I gave up 2 wheels to move on to 4 - even if they were 4 old wheels.

Where do you find all these great vintage lights? Did you get a shipping container full or something!
Great job offering them to the 2002 community.

There are factory mounting points for the 3-point harness in the C-pillar. There is a template to locate the mount in the C-pillar behind the headliner without destroying your headliner, but I can't find the template at the moment, but I'm sure someone on the FAQ will have it. I think the BlueDevil harness is a current repro for the old factory 3-point that used to be an option.
I believe there were mounting points in the c-pillar from '72 on (please someone correct me if I'm wrong) but when I put my 3-points in last year BlueDevil recommended against using them. The set of belts I bought have a reel that mounts right to the parcel shelf like modern BMWs. There is a correctly sized hole in the right spot (at least there was on my '73) so all you need to do is poke a hole in the vinyl then use the correct backing plate on the underside of the shelf. The bottom mounts are the same and the belts are really easy to install, and well worth it.

its your kids...but..
keep in mind that 2002's are not even close to as safe as cars made in the mid seventies and later.
no crash modelling, no testing, primitive structural crush zones. i have cut several of these things up, and have seen them after they have rolled in a crash. roofs just get flattened. the metal used is shockingly thin in key places. the A, B and C pillars in particular. and that was when they were new...now they all have internal rust and have been used for decades weakening the metal through all the flexing. the seat belt anchors are not the best. nothing in the doors to absorb a hit. they were safer than some cars of their time, but safe construction was not a key factor in the design..... and pales by comparison to even slightly newer cars.
they are great vintage cars...but...
i wouldn't put kids in the back (or front) seats of a 2002. i know folks do it, but not worth the chance to me. i wouldn't even use one for daily driving. don't stand a chance against even the most mediocre new econobox in an accident...let alone one of the bazillion SUV things that dominate the roads today.
Well now I feel like a bad parent

I drive with my 5 year old in the back pretty frequently using a set of rear shoulder belts and a booster seat. I think the '02 is basically as safe as any small car up through the late 90's / early 2000's. New cars are obviously much safer, but if you drive the 2002 reasonably and only a couple times a month in the summer I wouldn't worry too much about it.
If you're a bit apprehensive (as I was) you should look into getting a really high quality car seat - at 2 years old she should be just about ready for a harness booster seat like the Britax Pinnacle. Get a good set of rear belts from BlueDevils (member on the forum here) and IMO you're good to go.

How long have these rotors been unavailable for? I tried to get a set last summer when I replaced my front calipers (obviously with no luck). Has it really been years? I might want to pick up a set just to have on the shelf...

They're beautiful! Unbelievable deal for someone who wants to run stock wheels. Wish they fit my tii!
