The Original KGB Racing car

The first car that was part of KGB Racing was a 2000 BMW Z3 Coupe. 2,8 litter of pure BMW power That is the car that i took to my first autocross and it earned me a 3rd place in Novice Class in 2001. This was my first ever new car and my second BMW. This is also the only car i really miss.

Suspension Changes Worked!

For the last few years i have been trying to prevent my car from lifting the inside rear tire during right hand sweeper. The latest changes finally worked. Removing the rear sway bar and installing 800lb springs did the trick. racinricpix's Flick Photostreem (http://www.flickr.com/photos/43812942@N06/sets/72157624308119207/)

EFI Installation. Part 3. Electrical

Fuel delivery has been installed and tested. It is now time to set up all of the electrical parts. Wiring under the hood was cleaned up., since there is a lot more of it coming. Battery cable is now terminated at junction block. A new lead runs from there to the starter. Another distribution block was set up for all positive connectors under the hood. They all used to terminate on the starter. That was a bit messy.

EFI Installation. Part 2. Fuel

First thing that EFI requires is a 2 fuel line. One feeding the fuel injectors and the other to return access fuel back to the tank. A stock BMW 2002 only has one line. It;s a plastic line that runs inside the cab and was designed to feed the carburetor at 3.5 PSI. The news system will put out about 50 PSI.

Lightweight alternator

After driving with a big 533 alternator for a few years i finally replaced it with something a little more speedy. This one if from Performance Distributors and is 6lb and produces 50 AMP. Installation is not too complicated. The smaller of the mounting holes is threaded for the M8 bolt, same size as used for 2002 alternator mounting. A spacer was used to place the alternator in the proper spot.

EFI Installation. Part 1. Parts

A little late into the off-season but planning is over and installation has started. Over the next few weeks I am going to re-plumb the car with high pressure line and fittings that came from LPI Racing (http://www.lpiracing.com), fuel pump that came from 2002 Haus (http://www.2002haus.com), header from Ireland Engineering (http://www.bmw2002.com), throttle bodies from Extrudabody, (http://www.extrudabody.com/) clean up wiring under the hood, remove all old ignition and fuel supply parts, and

Ignition issues

As some of you might have heard about 2 weeks prior to the Nationals and right after the head was rebuilt, the car started to misfire badly. I found the misfire of cylinder #1 and thought it was due to a leaking gasket that is on the water neck and the first intake. After fixing that, the misfire did not go away. And what i discovered is that the misfire was on cylinders #1 and #3.
