This is a remarkable example in that a great deal of the factory original parts and finishes have survived, augmented by the car’s original window sticker.

The ten photos below (including the all-important window sticker) are from the Bring a Trailer website. Other than the optional steel sliding roof — rare on early 1600-2 sub-models — the options listed are typical of Hoffman Motors-imported cars. As shown in the photos, the car was equipped at some point with a rare Mark IV Custom air conditioning unit. Blaupunkt (Hamburg?) AM radio remains in place.

    Thanks

    now wanting a e28 M5

It’s going to be challenging to find one as un-abused as this 1600-2!  There’s been 6 to 8 e28 M5’s — my estimate, maybe it’s more — at the last few Vintage meets in Asheville.  Even if none of those is for sale, I’ll bet their owners know where other cars are....

Drive the ‘68 up to Vintage next May: show it off, look at the E28 M5’s, and talk to the M5 owners....

    Best regards,

    Steve
