  1. Outstanding! Kind of what I suspected and am definitely restoring to original now. Thanks as always. ps-in touch with prior owner chris willet. Will share more soon. 👍🏻
  2. Wow - great information-thank you mike. I am really enjoying digging into the car’s provenance and cannot wait to start the restoration. This delivering on 19.04.1968 to the BMW dealer Schorsch Meier opens up numerous possibilities. I return home on the 31st and will start scraping 🙂 Really appreciate everyone’s assistance here. Best, Tom
  3. Ok - wrote bmw again about color discrepancy and he came back with chamonix white and said the 5 looks like an 8 (handwritten) I see no indication of that color on the car - rather Granada red 023 throughout. I am asking him to please confirm and will advise here.
  4. ok - glad I followed up. Still hard to believe it’s Chamonix but…. “Thank you for your reply. I checked the number and found that indeed the original colour was Chamonix (BMW paint code 085). The "8" looks very much like a "2" in the handwritten delivery book but there is a different source (difficult to access and again handwritten) which states "cham." As the colour.”
  5. Yes - that’s what is throwing me. Doubt bmw would provide incorrect paint color but I do not see any roundies or pre ‘74s with this color? however - I do see this was a German delivery and wondered if the paint may have been custom ordered? And how cool if this was the original Granatrot-Metallic car and they introduced it later for ‘74 models? Hey a guy can dream!😊
  6. Just heard back from BMW: Thank you for your email. The BMW 2002 US-Version, VIN 1660782, was manufactured on 17.04.1968 and delivered on 19.04.1968 to the BMW dealer Schorsch Meier in Munich, Germany. The original colour was “Granatrot-Metallic”, paint code 025. Great to know-however upon further research I do not see this color/code referenced in 1968 color codes/brochure. Any ideas on this - did they do limited paint runs? Thanks as always.
  7. I love this forum! Thank you so much for the insight - I have debated color and if not so rough in areas I’d keep the patina. My tii was Granada but I’ve just always loved inka-took a vote among peers and inka was #1 Colorado #2. I know it’s better to go original for resale so I’ll just have to make the call when ready. Again appreciate you and this forum. Onward! 😊
  8. Thanks so much Steve/All- this is my 5th ‘02 since 1982. Can’t wait to get started on resto. (Ps-had a ‘73 tii that I still really miss.) 🙂 Stay well, Tom
  9. Outstanding and thank you. It’s vin-1660782.
  10. Thx mike - got her posted - just need to determine production date now.

Bought car as a project from Califonia. Car - has a rebuilt engine and am adding Weber carb and new intake manifold, starter, redoing interior, dash and considering painting Inka Orange.
  12. Howdy - I’m on my mobile device (should I be on a desktop?). Can’t seem to locate tools/login location to register my 1968 ‘02. I checked and it’s not currently registered. Any help is appreciated. Best, Tom

  19. Howdy - first I'm a newbie to the forum - so glad to be here. I had 4 '02s in the early 80s (how i miss my '73tii) and am just now getting back into them - doing a '68 ground up resto. Car has really good bones but will need a carb and thought I'd start here. I have dual Webers on my e9 and really like them. Not sure what is most practical for my build. I'd like to keep stock manifold and am not building a hot rod so any ideas on Solex v Webers v ? is appreciated as well as where to source. (Will be sourcing more parts once I get the car delivered and inventoried so thanks in advance.) - Tom Bmw 2002 photos.pdf
