  1. You’re asking us about drivability? The beauty, well one of the beauties of the old BMW turbo was its oddity. It drive like few other cars. So you adapted your driving style to it. Timing your on boost acceleration for the point in the curve it would do the most good and the least damage. This puzzle is fun. Not sure that’s what you're thinking about when you're asking about drivability.
  2. Can I please get the part number for the new turbo? Thanks!
  3. Hey Guys My dizzy was quite warm out. When the mechanic gave it back to me I was going to throw it out but a friend said, don’t do that and put it in a box in his house. Two years later the mechanic asked for the old dizzy back and I didn’t remember that my friend still had it. Lucky me he told me in passing he did. I realize I should just get it rebuilt. Who does that that you guys like and trust? Thank you!
  4. Thanks Pre, appreciate the thoughts. As someone mentioned, this situation happens mostly with windows open. Which of course could be that there is more ingestion of fumes from various places because the window is open.
  5. Thanks for the reply Kohler. If it was still available as a good workable part, I would not have written the above🤪. Though I am often clueless, the issue of availability was and is an issue.
  6. Yes that is when I get it as well. So it can indeed be an 02 situation. Unless more folks pop up and say they have had this issue and solved it this way?
  7. So you do not have a lot of exhaust oder with your turbos?
  8. They made 1000’s (100,000’s?)of these cars how can they not have good water pumps for them?!?!!!
  9. I’ve owned a ‘60’s Ferrari in the past where parts were hard to find as they only made a few hundred cars. None the less, parts were available in some way and given the difficulty, supplying and getting parts was an expected part of the ownership experience. On the other hand, I find the parts situation for our turbos such that it almost makes using these cars an impossibility. Not that that stops me or some of you. But it is about the most frustrating part of owning these cars that seems unexpected. As I wrote above, I had work done at a Southern California shop and as part of this work they replaced the water pump. No original water pumps were available and so they used what was, which is a Chinese replacement. Of course there are many fine, well made things made in China, this water pump was not one. It leaked and the car ran hot. Apparently a known issue with this, the only available replacement for this part. Luckily a nos pump was on the shelf at the second shop. This was not the fault of the first shop, but how can an important part like a water pump, not have a good, usable part available. Maddening.
  10. By the way I signed in as yale e though I am still yale as I couldn’t get my old email address to work.
  11. I tend to put a lot of miles on my cars and also it’s not unusual for me to have a car worked on for years. And that certainly has been the case with my turbo. Now it’s at a friends garage in North Cal. A few years ago, before covid, I had the car worked on in Southern California. That’s why the car was out there, though I live in NYC. It was never fully fixed in south cal so it ended up with a 2002 specialist my friend, (who is a porsche mechanic) knew. It’s seems the car is now finally sorted and my in friend moving back to his garage, noted to me that he’s getting exhaust fumes in the cabin. I remember that was always the case with the car. And when I had it at sportscar restoration in ct, they said this happens with 02’s. My west coast friend heard otherwise and thinks it could be because of the spoiler. So dear tubo-ites. What is your experience?
