  2. Thanks. Yep the engine is seized up. I pulled the head and cylinders are rusted solid. Scale rust and pitting on the walls is significant. I knew that was a possibility with the plugs out. The head is also thin walled on the water passages on #1 due to the rust. Obvious signs of a blown head gasket. And not surprisingly, like the picture, the engine is full of fine dust and sand. So I will need a different engine. I think I found one locally so it should be fine. It wasn’t number matching anyway. Fun stuff. Time to yank it out before the arrival of the 110 deg. days.
  3. Hi All just a quick update on this car. I was able to get a little more information from BMW Group. - The BMW 2002 VIN 1617060 was manufactured on September 25th, 1968 and delivered the same day to the German BMW dealer Münz in Düren. The original colour was Sahara, paint code 006. For whatever reason CharlesB didn’t buy the car. The paperwork took about a year at DMV to get done, and I probably overpaid. Anyway, I ended up buying this car and it’s now titled and registered in AZ and can legally hit the road as soon as it is safe again. I can tell you the pictures do not do it justice on how dusty and crispy this sucker is. Every interior part evaporates when you touch it. As it had no keys at all, the next big thing to track down is keys, keys, keys. All the previous post were very helpful. Thanks!
