  1. Hey John, looks like a great event. Provided I can get the car registered and all before now and then I will for sure. Thanks for letting me know about it. Pat
  2. I finally received the car into Baltimore and picked it up today. I must say, my initial impressions are very good and I am happy. I feel it was represented well and it seems to have escaped any damage while crossing the Atlantic. More to come!
  3. I should probably start a new thread but what do folks think about what to do with any sort of undercoating, etc? The underside looks really clean and based on the pictures I see no apparent rust. I clearly won't be driving it in harsh weather and she'll be garaged. Oh, and loving the Italian theme with the car:
  4. Hi Tom, My sentiments exactly. I hate to say it this way but I've always wanted one of these but truthfully know very little about them. I feel very fortunate to have found this. Buying something long distance, internationally, with a dealer you don't know is always an establishing bi-directional trust thing. I am a car guy and BMW fan but they're all later models, E24s, 28's, 30s, 39's, etc. My uncle picked me up in his tii from the airport in San Jose in 1976 and we had a spirited drive back to his place. It was a low 70s, dry evening and I still remember how sweet that car was. This forum seems like a fantastic group of enthusiasts. Glad to have found y'all! Patrick
  5. Hey Steve, I emailed them previously. Here is the body of their response: The BMW 2002 tii VIN 2704187 was manufactured on September 29th, 1971 and delivered on September 30th, 1971 to Italy. The original colour was Granada, paint code 023. I'll get it into the Registry provided I'm able to do that as newbie! Thank you, Pat
  6. Hi all, here is a link to the car. It's coming out of the Netherlands. Te koop: BMW 2002Tii '72 1e serie, zeer origineel €35.950,- (witmerodijk.nl) All paid for now. I think I did well. Engine overhauled, I have undercarriage photos, etc. Curious as to what you all think. Pat
  7. I am definitely familiar with Oldenzaal. Two good experiences and one not. That was a good guess for sure.
  8. I don't want to mess w/ the good karma I seem to have going! I will reply with more specifics once it's in the bag. Euros being wired tomorrow! It's not an Oldenzaal car! Pat
  9. Hi Steve, Thank you for pointing out that wheel database. I'll be sure to more carefully peruse the site before asking too many questions. All good and I appreciate you pointing that out. I did email the BMW Group Archives and they responded to me already. It's great to see the validation the car I'm buying and its reported history seems to be corroborated by the Group Archive folks --delivered to Italy, wheels reportedly by a dealer in Italy (thanks all!), and recently acquired by the selling dealer from a family in Italy. Once I actually gain possession of the car, I'll be sure and add it to the registry. It's Granada red/023. Can't wait to see her in person. Patrick Arnold
  10. Hello Mike, thank you for the information. Indeed, the car was delivered to and spent its life in Italy until only very recently. Appreciate the welcome. I have always wanted a 2002 tii having owned many other BMWs through the years. Best, Patrick Arnold
  11. This is my first post and I am also soon to be the owner of a '72 2002 tii I have purchased in Europe. I have been trying to determine what this wheel type is. Is it authentic? I have much to learn but believe I have found a really nice, rust free, and unmolested example. Thank you, Patrick Arnold
