Asking this question will let you know how inexperienced I am under the hood. I want to pull out the old steering box oil and replace with a gear oil you guys recommended. I cleaned off top of steering box and see a clear plastic “plug”. Tugged on it a bit and it doesn’t appear to simply pull out. Does it pull out or turn out? I’m assuming it’s reusable. Does look like previous owner had some clear sealer around it I cleaned off. Hopefully I’ll be able to suck old stuff out.

Good point. Yesterday I talked to the local Amsoil rep here in Tucson. He said either of the heavier “racing” products can be used in older steering box applications where excessive wear or leaks are a concern.
Thanks for for the follow up.

An earlier post included a picture of two Amsoil choices; SAE 190 and SAE 250. Amsoil tech guy didn’t mention these products. Can’t get good help these days.
I’m going with the earlier post unless someone disagrees.

Tech support for Amsoil suggesting 75w90 or 75w140. Thinking I’ll suck out what’s in there and replace. You guys ok with Amsoil and if yes which weight. Car only driven in AZ if that matters.

And I’m probably older than the seller. We may connect.

I live a couple hours away. Recently ended a search with a purchase of a 72tii in Tucson. Not close to being an authority but I can take pictures ask questions and drive.

What is price of Euro turn signals? New to this cult. Do you sell new parts only?
-
Great suggestions Einspritz. I’ll also check out your other posts on steering boxes.
Thank you.

Recently bought a nice 72tii with less than 90,000 miles. Documented. I have two threads on bolt. No leaks. Should I be looking for a rebuilt box? Anything I can do as preventative maintenance on the box. I’m not much more than a shade tree.

I’ll take the two plastic runners with seals

I want the two Roundee tail light trim rings. First purchase on FAQ. Not sure about next step.

Very consistent with other feedback received. I’ve moved on. Decided I’d rather find a nice 2002 than take a chance on a not very nice tii for about the same price
Thanks for for your input. Happy New Year.

And just not enough history and pictures to get a warm and fuzzy. The heavy black sealer or whatever underneath is worrisome.

I spend winters in Tucson so not worried about CA. Register my cars in Indiana. A car friendly state. If you have time tell me more about your project.

Explains the price. Seller needs to keep
up with the market. Had a 2002 in the mid 70s and I want a do over.
Thanks so so much for quick response. This site is a great resource.

VIN does not fall in the range currently recognized as 72tii. Posting claims it’s a Euro. Are Euro VINs outside the range I see in the faq discussion of VINs?

Has this car sold?

I’ll pull a little harder. I just wanted to make sure there were no threads involved. The fact that it was sealed could indicate PO used something other than original red plug.
Thanks for for your reply.
