  1. Hi!

I replaced all my coolant / radiator hoses earlier this summer, used only original hoses and hose clamps.

While fixing my brakes a week ago I noticed there was coolant on the body under the radiator where the lower radiator hose is attached.

I tightened the hose clamp and hoped it would go away.  Now it has leaked some more, maybe about 1-2 teaspoons every day. The car has not been driven, since the has been up in air on axle stands while waiting for new calipers.

I painted the radiator when replacing the hoses (including the part where the hose is attached), could this cause a leak?

  2. I've been away for a few days visiting family and attending a classic car show.

Found that the brakes work normally when the car is started.  After a while they disappear. The car also now drags to the side (which it didn't use to) and the right wheel squeeks. When parked I noticed the wheel was hot.

    You might also have:

a loose wheel bearing.  Moves around and pushes the pad back

a sticky caliper.  Gets hot, boils brake fluid, pushes it out of caliper.  First push moves pads back in,

second clamps the brakes on.  If it pulls a little bit to one side or another after it does this, this is kinda likely.

Easy test- after 10+ minutes of faster driving, is one (or both) sides hot?

    Thank you!

I did hear a squaking sound from the left wheel after this. Goes away when I brake.

Might be a sticky caliper then?

  4. Hi!

After driving about 1 hour yesterday the brakes suddenly didn't work on my 73 1602. When I press the brake pedal it goes to the floor, but if I press it again it works as normal.

I have been planning to replace all the brake hoses and the master cylinder since it's rusty and the rubber where the brakes lines goes appears cracked.

Is there anything else I need to check or replace?

    Thanks for your help!

  5. Drained the coolant and took out the radiator. Was kind of shocked how little coolant there was left in the car, only about 2.5 liters!

Cleaned the radiator, it has tons of bugs in it! Going the paint it (only top and bottom part) after I buy some primer and paint.

I am a bit unsure how hard I should fasten the engine drain plug. Does anyone know how many nm I should tighten it?

  6. Replace the short hose between the heater valve and the heater core inlet.  I recommend OEM.  I know, I know, it's probably easy to find generic, but I've had premature minor leaks at that spot when using generic hose.

It's not an easy hose to replace, but it does fail if you're using your heater.  Best to do it now, while you're buying all the hoses.

Thanks, I've ordered all the hoses for the heater as well.

Is there any thread for replacing the heater hoses?  Could not find anything about it the PDF shop repair manuel (since it can't be searched, I might have missed it).

  7. Hi!

I need to replace all the coolant hoses on my 73 02 and have a couple of questions:

I guess it would be best to drain the engine block as well?

Do I need to lift the front of the car to drain the coolant or replace any of the hoses?  (The Haynes manual says the car should be level when draining the coolant).
