Got newly upholstered furniture for the fronts!
How do you like Tesoro's front seats?
Real leather and suede, the design was inspired by Porsche Singer. Instead of doing the leather weaving, I decided to go leather on the outer bolsters and suede fabric for black seats.
I like how the Franzini Bros call me "Lisa Beemer"
WAIT TIL YOU SEE THE REARS!

    Here's a quick glimpse! ?
Custom Porsche Singer style seats designed by me with the alcantara suede insert and real leather bolsters... Door panels have a smitten strip of alcantara suede on the top with all new hardware.
(Don't dock me points on the no seatbelts in the rears.. I have to figure that part out later!)
Custom leather armrest over the ebrake handle.
Wait til you see my custom center console! ?

DERBY IS DONE! @northbaybavarian Rick had completed Derby’s engine to ORIGINAL SPECS in less than 3 weeks! That’s including rebuild of transmission, carburetor, suspension, painting, bead blasting... it’s really remarkable and the quality of work is superb!! Unlike TESORO’s restoration with the exception of the body and paint, DERBY’s engine and mechanical restoration was quite enjoyable! No stress at all! It was a great honor and pleasure to work with Rick! He does projects as if he was working on his own car. There’s so much passion and care that was put into this rebuild project that I think he had a lot of fun doing it! ? I can’t wait to show you what under the bonnet! ☺️Now its time to break in the engine and take Derby to the beach! ???‍♀️?

Le left at 4AM this morning to trailer Tesoro home! He crunched for the finish line and got the car here to San Rafael at 11A this morning!
Talk about first class customer service with personal delivery!
I have been waiting for this day for almost 2 years! It's been an amazing emotional journey!
Whenever you see a successful person, you only see the public glories and never the private sacrifices to reach them. So I want to take this opportunity to Thank Mr. 2002garagewerks for all your hard work and delivering my work of art. Thank you for putting up with my 'bossyness' and working with me in bringing this amazing build together.
Here is a video of Le rolling Tesoro off the trailer and me driving it for the first time with some trepidation accompanied by Le ! ?
Wishing Le safe travels home! He's already on his way back to LA!
Happy Sunday everyone! Time to start on putting the interior together!!

I'm such a big advocate for safety components on our vehicles but also want to look cool doing so! ?
I highly recommend these LED rear taillight set up kit! They are engineered LED circuit boards designed specifically for our 2002s to fit in perfectly for the lenses whether you're a roundie or square!
I've been reading about too many rear end accident stories - that if our cars can be a little brighter... the better to be noticed!
It doesn't make Tesoro immune .... but I think all 02s should have these! Makes it safer out there for us to drive our beautiful babies!
As Bill Arnold installed these for me... he said they were 'insanely bright!' ?
Here's a pic of 'before' the install and a video of reverse, brake, right, and left!

As Tesoro sits and gets pampered with different waterproof/rustproof treatments before he goes to paint in the coming weeks, The 02princess is diligently taking action with this whole insurance fiasco!
The Tow truck company's insurance company completed "their investigation". Mind you.. I called AAA for their tow because Tesoro's clutch went out so after pulling over on the shoulder of the freeway... Tesoro was INOPERABLE.... Their tow truck driver backed into Tesoro and they are DENYING LIABILITY.
Ugh.... makes my stomach sick that I have to go through this unbelievable nonsense!
    So guess what..... ??
YOU JUST GOT SERVED!!! Yeap, I had someone go serve papers to the tow truck co. today!
    There is a court date for 01/09/15 @ 1PM.....
If these guys are smart... they will settle prior to the court date... but if not... I'll see them in court with my attorney. You don't want to mess with the 02princess!
In the meantime..... Tesoro's engine bay has been completely stripped, and will be off to bead, media, walnut, almond, hazelnut, macadamia nut blasting .... He's also going to get dry iced in the cabin area to get all the factory tar off... and then there's repairing the nose damage and other areas that need attention... and then off to paint! So the restoration is onward !!
    Miss you Tesoro!

This is my euro spec 1967 1600, 6volt.... matching #s in Derby.... restored 8 years ago in its beautiful original glory!
I am the 4th owner of this stunning car and it's documented that this is one of only four in the world surviving matching#s original Derby 1600 car.
I hope to share this journey with you as I start to preserve this vehicle by maintaining it to be period correct and original....
Tesoro is super happy to have someone to play with!

    More pics on the way!

    And so it begins!
Getting some items ready for Derby and Tesoro's debut for their first time at Brisbane Swap and Show in May....
For those period correctos... the rear taillight lenses for US 1600's were red... however, EURO 1600's were amber centers. Derby originally came with original amber center lenses but they looked a bit faded so I swapped them out to the red centers... I like the red centers... but I'll be switching the taillight lenses back to the amber centers. Keeping Derby PC!

Got Tesoro back from detail all shiny and ready for the first road trip to Monterey for Legends of the Autobahn and Festorics weekend 2016! Needless to say, Tesoro was in good company getting detailed!
To preserve the paint, I taped around him like they do at rally's. It may have been a bit overkill to do something like that, but how many of you would do the same especially after a full ground up restoration... on a black car??? ;-)
    See you in Monterey!
Thank you to Bill Arnold for the adjustments, oil change, and your wonderful service! ?

Here's a little something not a lot of people knew about.
People have asked me, 'what's with the little cubby roll up thing in your center console in Tesoro?
Growing up, my father had an array of Mustangs that he had owned from the 60's and 70's. And as a little girl being passenger in his cars, I used to always fiddle around and open and close that roll up door in the center console of his 1967 Mustang fastback which drove him crazy! Haha! ?
So that roll up door in my console is somewhat of a reverence to my super cool dad.
My mother and father are now retired and live in Pacific Grove and there are times when they see an 02 here and there driving around. My dad once related a story to me saying that he saw an 02 at a gas station and said to the guy... "my daughter has an 02" .... and the guy says "oh yeah? That's cool..."
in which my father proudly states.... "She's the 02princess" ..... ?
So here's a Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there! Hope your day is as special as you are!
(Enclosed is a pic of my dad with his 72 Mustang and me with my super huge smile!)

Driving along on a spirited drive for my birthday today and 2002sday and I run into Sammy Hagar in his z8 Alpina! He apparently knows Bill Arnold (because Bill used to work on his 3 series) and he wished me a happy birthday! ?

So this gallery pic of me washing Tesoro a few months after I bought him.
I had "him" (yes, it's a HIM!) inspected by my guys at Motorspeed West in Santa Clara. I totally love these guys. They are honest mechanics who go the extra mile for you. Their service is impeccable and they do their job well. I have taken ALL my cars to these guys and would not go to any other. Read their YELP reviews. You will not be disappointed with their work.
Tesoro had a full tune up, inspection, etc., after I bought him. It was also great that I had most of the history papers of the car from the previous owners. Tesoro had a lot of things that needed immediate attention. For one thing... THE SMOKE. Engine valves needed work. The heater box needed work. And let's not talk about the interior... Don't be fooled! Tesoro photographs well! And he was sooo dirty inside the engine and out! I knew when I bought Tesoro that I would give him the TLC that he needed to become the full potential gorgeous street car that I wanted him to be...
Tesoro would be my keeper 02. And I think you know what that means... No matter at what cost or however long it will take me to restore Tesoro... I will do it! I think there will be a lot more car washing days ahead of me, especially for a black car!

For the love of the 1600   The moment is here, its time to show and shine! But if it was only easier said than done.    Let me take you to how Derby got prepped for the Hillsborough Concours de Elegance.    First of all, the Hillsborough Concours is the longest consecutive running concours in the world! No joke. They have gone longer than the "Quail" or even the Pebble Beach Concours.  For 63 continual years, they are proud of this tradition of honoring and celebrating excellence in automotive design and engineering.    Derby had been selected this year again to be judged in the TC2 Imported Passenger and Touring Cars from 1965-1987. Last year, it was an honor to have both Derby and Tesoro selected to attend and be judged . The cars presented themselves very well, however, that was my first ever "Concours d'Elegance" and I had no idea what I was getting myself into as it was evident that I came home empty handed.    That is when the fire was lit, and started burning a competitive desire to enter Derby again for 2019.   In preparation for this concours, I had Derby's tired matching numbers engine restored to its factory glory. I had entrusted North Bay Bavarian in Santa Rosa, CA to do the dirty work and within a month, they had Derby's engine spic and span! No more smokey exhaust or squeaky suspension. The engine, suspension, manual 4 speed transmission, and new exhaust was all repaired, rebuilt, and restored as if this early NK Derby colored 1600 was driven off the assembly line in Germany. Amazed with the fastidious and attention to detail work, Derby was ready for show!   After driving and breaking in the engine, Derby drove like a champ! Engine was idling like a calm ambient tone that could put babies to sleep. I was so pleased, that I started to daydream about how excited I would be if I had won an award. Well, that daydream turned into a nightmare 5 days before the concours. Derby's rebuilt generator had failed! How could this be? I had the generator rebuilt a year before the engine restoration because Derby had an issue with the generator in the past. Fortunately, I was at North Bay Bavarian picking up some items for Derby, when I noticed a strange noise coming from the generator.  Dr. Rick Row had used his "stethoscope" to listen to the front and rear of the generator and it was undeniable that the bushing inside the generator broke. He quickly took the generator apart and found a new bushing he had laying around and recommended that I not drive Derby home until he felt certain that it was the bushing. So I took the train back home and it was the longest excruciating hour I felt in my life. My thoughts of not being able to attend the concours truly crushed my spirit and I think Rick Row could sense that within me too.    However, the next morning, Rick calls me and excitedly tells me that after testing the generator and voltage regulator, he had fixed the problem and said I could pick up the car right now. RIGHT NOW?? Could someone pinch me?? I couldn't believe that the car was fixed and ready to come home and I would still have the day to detail the car proper and head out to the concours in the morning. I stayed up with Derby from 6PM to 11:30PM detailing Derby that night and I went to bed feeling assured that everything was good to go!   On the morning of the show, I woke up early and got myself ready and when I went in the garage to start Derby, I heard that horrific, dreadful, generator failing noise again! If I can ever tell you what it felt like to have a heart attack, I can tell you I felt like I had one that morning. In a panic, I called the closest trustworthy mechanic to me and that would be none other than Bill Arnold from Bill Arnold BMW.  The conversation went something like this: "Hi Bill... uhhh... sorry to wake you at 6AM on a Sunday morning, but ... uh..... Derby's generator failed and its making a really terrible noise and I have the Hillsborough Concours this morning.... um....  can you, .... would it be possible if you could..." Bill then says, "I'll be right there!" (CLICK).   Bill arrives in less than 20 mins and he's tinkering and wondering what is making that darn noise in the generator? Luckily, I happen to have three extra generators that were just spares for parts and one extra working generator that Daniel Echeverry allowed me to borrow "in case anything happens" to Derby's generator. Bill tried on the working generator that Daniel let me borrow, but that one wasn't charging properly. Bill found that Derby's generator had a bad bearing too, so out of the three spare generators he "McGyver'ed" and replaced a bearing in Derby's generator and got the grease out of Derby's hubcap to fill the space where the bearing belongs and then Bill says.."crank it!" The moment of truth is when that little red charge light turned off... and YEEE HAW! I was READY FOR CONCOURS! I happen to arrive 10 mins before judging and told the judges I had an issue with the generator and they equitably agreed to judge Derby last.    I was so gracious that they allowed me that time to clean Derby up, get myself together, and be ready to have Derby judged.    Derby's competitors looked like: 1966 Fiat 2300S Coupe, 1967 Alfa Romeo GTV, 1968 MG B-GT, 1971 Mercedes Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet, 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV, 1988 Mercedes Benz 260E, 1993 Mercedes Benz 500E. The competition was fierce!   When the judging came to Derby, I couldn't tell if they were impressed by what they saw. Did they consider that this little car's history of it being one of only 4 in the world documented as a matching numbers, surviving ORIGINAL, early 1600? or how this little car put a smile on Jay Leno's face when he drove this car on his Jay Leno's garage show? Did they have any idea of the amount of work that was involved with the engine and all that was included with it? Did the judges have any idea of the trials I went through to get to the concours? Did they notice that what I want to do with this car is to keep the torch burning by preserving this vehicle in its original factory engineering and design?   They must have. Because the next thing I know... I have a yellow card on Derby's windshield... "Congratulations, your car has been picked for an award...." Unbelievable! I had no idea what place Derby came in until the moment at the podium. They called out the 1967 Alfa Romeo GTV for 3rd place. Then it was the 1971 GORGEOUS Mercedes Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabrio for 2nd.... and all of the sudden... my mind went to that moment... in my daydream... where I was truly here, in real life, to drive up on the red carpet to pick up the award with Derby for 1st in Class. It was an amazing feeling that I will never forget and all for the love of the 1600.    It really does take a village... That day was not just about being in it to win it. I am truly grateful of the First Place in Class for Derby. But what I am truly grateful for are the car enthusiast friends that share my passion for these classic cars and I am blessed that they are always there for me no matter what. Time to celebrate and get ready for Monterey Car Week!    (print for BMW CLASSIC magazine, by Lisa )
