Sorry about the thread revival here.
Website is down, but it never hurts to ask. Mike, are you still producing these shirts?

What is the point of the wind deflector?
The three ideas I have are it reduces wind noise, it will prevent the wiper blades from lifting off the windshield at a higher rate of speed and the last idea is that it may potentially create a higher pressure/force against the windshield during a rainstorm thus clearing the water more effectively. I'm not completely sure though.
-
Nice project. Keep it running. FYI, your wiper arms, like mine were when I bought it, are on the wrong sides. The wind deflector goes in front of the driver.
Thank you, and I may end up doing an engine swap; still nothing is 100% yet so don't quote me on that.
If you didn't say anything I wouldn't have noticed the wiper arms were switched haha. I will go ahead and fix that!

Nice to see the complete story. By far one of my favorite ones to follow. All around solid car. Can't wait to see this finished
It'll be a fun project, that's for sure, and the story is just beginning!
Nice car just make sure you have the time and money to finish the car good luck and don't give up Lol,i have a 75 automatic factory car
That's my thought exactly, we (my dad and I work on cars together) currently have a couple of projects at home and this was added to the list for me to learn and create something to my taste. The time and money will definitely be taken into account, and I will definitely not give up! Thanks for the advice!

I don't know if I ever formally introduced myself. My name is John, I haven't been very active on this forum because I've been at school and unable to get to work on this car. So a little story to get everyone caught up...
March 2013: Check Out, Pay Up, Trailer Out…
After countless hours searching the Internet, making calls, sending emails and traveling, I finally thought I had found 'the one'. The car was close to home, only a five hour drive to VT, so my dad and I went up to check it out. It ended up looking like a great candidate for a project so we paid up and trailered a malaga 5-speed 1975 BMW 2002 back home.
The car from those pictures is what it looks like now/how I bought it; luckily there is not much rust to repair.
I was originally going to use the car as a building block, restore it and sell it so I could buy a BMW E9. Yeah well that plan has changed... and changed a lot.
November 2013: I D E N T I T Y C R I S I S.
I got lucky with this one, a good friend of mine sent me a listing on Craigslist. It immediately had my attention and ideas were formulating by the second, so you could say I was slightly interested haha. Without hesitation I emailed the seller. Within a couple of weeks I had traveled up to Albany to check out the parts; I knew I had a project car on my hands but this... this sealed the deal, thought I might as well learn how to do some bodywork and fiberglass work right? It was like a game of Tetris getting the AC Schnitzer flare kit into the back of my noble-steed, the SRT4.
The car has the potential to look like the classic racecars that shocked the world!
The kit was back at my house, and yes this car is going to be sitting a bit wider than normal with the box kit going on! These were some of the coolest 2002s back in the day, the small Schnitzer race team created these widebodies that their racecars wore in the 60's and 70's. The small German race team created a spectacular machine that won the German touring car championship, it was a 2002ti. The sight of gold BBS hunkered down under the widebody created the signature image of Schnitzer.
Sorry all the photos are really busy, it was at night and the ISO setting was really high...
What are other plans for the car? Guess everything will be determined from here on out. Some more goodies may be in the works within the next couple of months, but I have too many ideas to write down at the moment. Definitely thinking about keeping the classic motorsports trend going with this car.
Some more parts that I'll be utilizing/sorting through like a new clutch, air filter, fan, a couple of intake manifolds, a steering wheel, valve cover, head-liner, sun visors, too many little bits and pieces for the interior.
^The bottom right of this last picture, there are some of the M-Motorsport/2002 Turbo stripes, came with the car, definitely thinking about using them, very tempted for sure!
Ohhh yeah and these weird looking round taillights... I think I will be converting it to a Roundie; adding a little bit more of that classic touch to the car but I am not 100% definite on this plan.
Thank you for looking, I hope you enjoyed this bit so far and you'll be seeing more of this little '02 in the upcoming months and years probably! -
Nice pick up there buddy, I'll be seeing this thing at my house right next to the other '02 in the driveway.

Like last year, the size of Rentschler Field allows us to accommodate virtually any number of cars for showing. A couple years ago we had to turn cars away because the venue was too small – no longer!

Due to the nature of Rentscher Field’s parking lots and the sheer volume of cars attending, we cannot guarantee parking with friends, clubs, groups, etc. If you want the best chance at parking together, make sure to arrive together. Please note that even this does NOT guarantee that we will be able to grant all parking requests due to the extreme volume of traffic anticipated.
Important: Spectator parking will be across in a separate lot outside of the lots for registered show cars. If you do not plan to register your car for showing, you will be asked to park in the spectator area. Police officers and club members will be available to direct you.

first contact the shop that spit that paint on and
express your concern for their reputation
in the collector car community
it should not do that
in future - do not let gasoline come in contact with any paint
fix your tank issue - not venting, cap gasket not sealing
sorry for your loss.
^ This.
What happened to you looks very familiar; the car had been repainted under the previous ownership to my knowledge and the same thing happened to me, a nice section of paint below the gas cap was stripped. I definitely think giving that company a call would be a good idea. Good luck and awesome color too!

First check if the size and offset of those BBS center locks will work with your fenders and suspension. Probably the only way to know for sure is to mount some 4x100 wheels of the same dimensions with the intended tires and find out if it works and how much you like it. Very few people run 16" wheels on 02s period, and I'm thinking 16" BBS wheels may be a bit wider than the 7" considered the maximum width for a car without flared fenders.
Me? I'd consider trading those center locks to someone who needs them and getting a regular 4x100 wheel I really want.
Then again, one lobe of my brain is trying to visualize your dad's truck running center lock BBS Mahles. Pics or it never happened.
Those wheels will be completely custom for the BMW if it ends up happening. I still have to do a lot of measuing and overall learning on this car, but that's what I'm thinking. I'm debating putting flares on the car, haven't decided quite yet. Otherwise the wheels will not stay like that, way way to wide, they will have to be rebuilt.
Hahaha the wheels are actually mounted on the truck now; it's still in the process of being built and it'll be used mainly for autocross when done. Yes I know, pictures of pictures my bad...
Sorry about the inverted photo, but here are the rear wheels when they were gold (early steps I'm guessing)
Welcome to 02- World. (In Orlando everything is "world") Keep us updated on progress and more pics.
Thank you! I'll definitely keep this updated if something gets figured out.

Hello everyone,
I'm new here and am still learning a lot about '02s, so I guess this can be a slight introduction as well as a question thread. I bought a 1975 BMW 2002 back in March and am finally getting around to working on it several months later. Here she is! I drove it today for the first time since I bought it, and it will be getting it registered tomorrow morning.
I'm in the process of taking notes and marking down what I need to get in order to put the car where my ideas want it to be. One of those ideas that came up was between my dad and I; he has a set of centerlock 16" BBS Mahles that are on his truck right now and may let me use them on my '02. So...
I have already found this thread for "Centerlock wheels on O2": http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/106612-centerlock-wheels-on-o2/ but didn't really find much of what I needed, so maybe someone has found something since then or someone has done it already, but is it possible to have a center-lock hub and wheel on the BMW 2002, and has it been done yet?
Thanks ahead of time for any help and/or links etc. I appreciate it. Also awesome forum, a lot of information here!

Have a set of BBS RS001's myself.
Here's a nice link to follow. Hopefully this will help you out a little bit, information wise as well as extra sites/links wise.
You'll have to do a little bit of calculating for inner barrels, outer lips, offsets, etc.
