  1. Bosch starter from my Tii engine. I didn't clean it up, but it's strong and worked fine in my 02 when I replaced it with a new starter a few months ago. Gear teeth are in good shape with typical chipped edges on a few teeth. (see photo) Bosch P/N 0013 11 016. $25 plus Fed Ex Ground shipping from Bozeman MT.

  2. The throttle body is in good shape. I sent my four old fuel injectors to Jack Fahuna at Probimmer.com. He bench tested my four and determined that two of them were leaking and too corroded to be rebuilt. I bought four rebuilds from him at $100 each. I also bought all 4 new injector pipes from Maximillion to replace my original yellowed and brittle pipes. However, they sent pipe #1 in a totally different style - a black non-molded high pressure hose so I may end up using my original injector #1.

  3. It took nearly 6 weeks, but my Kugelfisher fuel injector pump is finally back from a complete rebuild by Gus Pfister of Pacfic Fuel Injection. Gus sure is busy these days. He works alone and it took longer than he'd estimated, but it's satisfying to know such an expeienced specialist rebuilt my pump. Gus told me he replaced numerous worn internal seals, bushings, fittings and thing-a-ma-bobs, made adjustments to the mysterious inner workings of the pump, and recalibrated the works on his 1950's sci-fi looking Bosch equipment. The pump now looks shiny, clean and newish with fresh external springs and lever replacing worn out the bits.

The cost was $952, including UPS COD shipping from South San Francisco to Bozeman Montana, but I'm feeling it was worth the high price just to know I won't ever have to worry if the pump could be compromising performance. I'm excited to get the engine put back together with a fresh pump, fuel injectors, injector pipes, rebuilt head, valves, camshaft, gaskets, distributor, starter and belts. I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can take her our and see how she runs. It's going to be frustrating to wait the long months before I can do that.

  4. Hey Jason, my trusty Tii parts guru!! I'm telling you, if I had room in the garage, I'd just offer to buy your whole car. :-)

I need a #1 pipe. What shape is yours in? Is it yellowing, or does it have any heat dents or nicks?

My #1 is OK, but it's yellowed with age. I just rebuilt the head and K-Fisher injector pump, so I want to freshen up all the pipes while I'm at it. I bought 3 new pipes (#2, 3 and 4) from Mobile Heritage for $25 each, and I want #1 to match.

  5. Hi Jim,

Your interview with Gus is terrific. I read it a few weeks ago and so I knew what to expect.

I went to PFI to drop off my injector and didn't want to impose on Gus. He was working alone in his shop, but was gracious and happy to demonstrate the test equipment and show me around the shop.

I didn't ask about buying spares, although I did ask if he had access to the molded injector pipes and fittings... which he did not.

Gus could really use an apprentice. It would be good to have a younger person learn the unique skills Gus possesses. While Gus is busy, the future potential for such a specialized business is constrained by the dwindling number of vehicles still running these aging injector pumps.

  6. For any Tii guys who wonder what equipment is used to bench test a Kugelfisher Fuel Injection pump, here are a few pics I took today while dropping off my K-Fish at Pacific Fuel Injection in South San Francisco. Owner Gus Pfister was kind enough to give me the grand tour.

I took a video of Gus bench testing a vintage Bosch injector from a Porsche but I won't be able to get it off my phone until I return home.

  7. Ever try to get a Kugelfisher fuel injection pump through airport security? I succeeded in doing just that this morning... though it took some fancy explaining to the understandably wary TSA officers at the airport. They'd never seen such an odd looking object. Agreed it's suspicious looking, and smelling, given the aroma of fresh 91 octane gas.

After making it through security, I'm now on my way to hand deliver the K-Fish to Gus Pfister at Pacific Fuel Injection in South San Francisco. I had other business in the Bay Area, so decided to pull the K-Fish and have it bench tested and rebuilt if needed. Anyone who wants me to check on the status of their F-Fish rebuild at PFI, let me know and I'll look for it while I'm there.

  8. I had many replies to my 292 Schrick cam ad and I've now sold it. Once again, the FAQ forum proves to be an amazing matchmaking site.

If anyone is interested, I'm also selling a rare cast iron body Bosch distributor that was in my Tii engine :-)

  9. This item is now sold. Thanks. :-)

Schrick 292 cam from the '72 Tii engine in my '75. The machine shop that just removed it to replace a worn valve tells me the cam is in very good condition and ready to be reinstalled. The lobes look unworn for such an old cam. Photos show warts and all. FYI - I'm replacing this 292 with a stock cam for in-town driving I mostly do. Best reasonable offer.

  10. For sale. Vintage cast iron body Bosch distributor from the '72 Tii engine in my 75 '02. Bosch PN# 0231129026 JFR4. Works perfectly and looks good too. As part of my rebuild, I'm replacing it with a new electronic distributor. I don't know if this is the original distributor, or if it was installed at a later date. It's apparently interchangeable with these other Bosch distributors:

  11. Under better light, the hand inscribed numbers on the cam end are:

    2 9 2 6 plus either a V or an N.

What I thought were several #1s, appear to be straight hatch marks, one each at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o:clock.

The distance from the shaft to the end of each lobe appears to be 8 mm as measuring by my dinky mm ruler. I've got to get a more precise caliper to confirm, or bring it to our local machine shop... though they've never heard of Dr Schrick.

  12. That buggered look may be my limited photographic skills along with the low-res Blackberry camera. I'll take better resolution shots using my regular digital camera when I borrow it from my wife. I'm not sure how old the cam is and I'm curious to learn that from the ID numbers. I suspect it's been in the car for about 25,000 miles, installed sometime in the late 1990's.

With the Schrick installed the engine runs very strong and smooth, especially over 3500 rpm. However, I'm more concerned about getting smooth low rpm performance and idle, better MPG, and tame around town performance.

I hope to sell the cam to help pay for my next project, which is to send the K-Fish out for bench testing and if needed, a preventative rebuild.
