  1. Thanks Nick!

I'll need to contact the FFVE for a certificate of conformity, that's the non-EU catch. Then go through the contrôle technique and get the carte de grise through my local garage.

I think it will be a little more legwork than an EU car, but that's ok.  French paperwork is a bother, but everyone involved has always been very helpful.

I'll definitely be joining your drive in October.  And I hope to be rolling down the Cote d'Azur late spring.  Perhaps I'll veer left at some point as well ??

Thanks again to you and all others who contributed to this thread and made this possible!

  2. To offer closure, nearly 3 years later...with all of the covid travel and shipping delays, Polaris is finally in France.  Arrived in Rotterdam late December.  Road tripped up from south of France to pick it up.  Arrived in good condition, 6 months after I dropped it off with Schumacher in Long Beach.  But all's well that ends well, and the car is sitting in my little village parking lot... waiting for me to do "a little" paperwork! ?

Thanks again for all of the excellent guidance I received so long ago.  It all helped!

  3. Hmmm...you know Mike, you might be right.  I'll bet my tiny one track brain has been trying to shove that key in upside down over and over again. ?

When I get home today, I'll try putting it in the correct way and let you know how it goes.

Thanks for inserting common sense into my limited picture ?

  4. Requesting some help, or affirmation.  Had my '02 out and about.  Started the car and it was idling - somehow hooked my pinkie in the key ring and pulled the key out of the ignition!

The car kept running, but I've been unable to reinsert the key back into the ignition lock.

Got the car home. "Turned off" the car by pulling the coil wire, but here it sits.  Ignition stuck in the Fahrt position.

I've tried wiggling in all three of the ignition keys I have...then whilst turning the steering wheel back and forth.  They all go in, up to a point...but not enough to engage the lock and allow the key to turn the lock tumbler.  Maybe the key needs to go in another 1/8-1/4 inch?

Anyone else seen this issue before?

My suspicion is that I'll be removing the lock core and taking it to a locksmith.

Unless someone else has been able to avoid that task...

Thanks in advance for your help.

  5. As promised, here's the additional stuff that I'm tossing in with the sheet metal.  Alternator is new. Radiator was good as far as I can remember.  32/36 dgav Weber is in ok shape, but needs attention nonetheless.  Shift know is new, but not screw on.  All other stuff is as is...

    Thanks for looking!

  6. This part has not sold.  I will mark it as such when a sale has been confirmed.

I'm still figuring out what parts I will ship with the car to France and what I will leave behind.  What those are exactly at this juncture I can't say, but I will include those items with this part at no cost above our agreed upon price.  When I get them sorted, I'll try to post a "group photo" of what's included.

My schedule is to get the car to Long Beach, CA on July 20th.  If anyone in SoCal is interested, we could arrange a drop off there or anywhere between LA and Sac.  Shoot me a PM and we can discuss the details.

Just to sweeten the deal a bit. ?

If you are restoring, or are planning to restore, your '02 and it has need of front end body work, this is your moment and this is your part...

  7. Price: $80
    Location: El Dorado Hills, CA

    Description:

$80 is for both, shipped to the lower 48.

One is an Ireland Engineering "pertronix" type unit, lightly used.  Worked fine when pulled off the vehicle it was on.

The second is a Bosch vacuum advance unit, part# 0 231 176 084 (JFU4).  it's missing the two cap mounting clamps and associated screws, but otherwise appears in good shape.

I'll throw in two new Bremi caps.  Plus a used cap and rotor for the IE unit.

    Thanks for your interest!

  8. Price: $50
    Location: El Dorado Hills, CA

    Description:

$50 is for both mirrors shipped.

Here are two aftermarket mirrors, one left and one right.

The RH mirror is missing it's glass but the seal is in good shape.  The glass and seal are still available new here:  http://www.rogerstii.com/bmw-2002-320i-530i-outside-mirror-glass/

The LH mirror rubber seal is a bit worn, but otherwise in good shape.

I will throw in a base seal and mounting plate.  I'll also include another mounting plate and a base seal for what I assume is the trapezoidal mirror base....but I'm not sure.  whatever.  It's yours if you buy the rest of this stuff

    Thanks for your interest!
