I know that's the way that they spell it. I just think it's a little pretentious to make a conscious effort to type it in all caps.

To me, typing Alpina in all caps, in the informal world of the interweb, is like typing ///Motorsport. It's kind of silly.

I stumbled across this thread where the original poster is wondering exactly what kind of deteriorating 2002 he's got in front of him. Its VIN / chassis# doesn't fall between 1680001 and 1696448, so that excludes it from being a ti. The original poster says that the car has all of the Maxi parts.. (including the seats and duel fuel tanks etc) ..I'm wondering if anyone out there has ever seen.. (or might know a little bit more about) ..this particular car.

Not seen a BMW centre section of exhaust with two boxes either.
I wonder if Japan had/has certain emissions standards. This is what RealOEM has listed for a European 1500's exhaust system.
yep - looks the same as my 1600 came with - same design as what's available now, but a smaller bore. Are you saying Japan had two centre boxes as per that earlier diagram? Plus it's not going to effect emissions, only noise, and they're not exactly noisy!
RealOEM doesn't have a diagram of a Japanese 1500 exhaust system, so it's hard to be sure if that's the case.
I bet the guy at BMW - M10 Life knows the answer to that.

Great! Thanks, I appreciate it. There's not a whole lot of info out there on these cylinder heads. So, I appreciate being able to use your thorough description. I have no problem at all with you linking to the Berg-Spyder piece either. It seems as if these Apfelbeck heads and Berg-Spyders both fall into the 'as rare as hen teeth category', so the info on both might as well be shared together.

They were also used on the two Group 7 hillclimbers from 1967 and 1968.

My friend Dylan is an automotive photographer from South Africa. He's in the process of planning an 8,500 mile trek throughout the U.S. where he's made arrangements with various car collectors to do extensive photo shoots of their collections. Dylan isn't doing this to make any money, but instead he's volunteering his passion, time and efforts in order to help a charitable organization for children called Operation Bobbi Bear.
One of the more notorious car collections on his list is Ken Lingenfelter's collection of 150 collector cars. I just recently suggested a trip to Ed Ullom's collection in Mechanicsburg, PA. If you know of any other collections that might be worthy / willing to be photographed for a really good cause feel free to leave a comment in this thread and I'll make the suggestion to Dylan.

That's incorrect. The 1804 and the 2004 eventually replaced the 1800SA and 2000SA in 1973.
