Hey, December is closing in— that means Not the
49-Mile Drive -24 on 14 December is getting close!
As you know, our rally around San Francisco is the 2nd Saturday in December. We’re still planning the route so watch for upcoming details about where to meet. We’re contemplating finishing near an Off the Grid location where you can buy from a food truck for outdoor nourishment. American food and international food are probably available.
We plan to meet by 9:30AM again so cars will be underway before 10.
While this year Covid19 is often out-of-mind, we still need to be careful since the hopefully less fatal version now circulating is easier to spread. Based on recent history, we still encourage social distancing, masking if you choose and other protocol to make sure our rally is safe, friendly and fun.
Stay tuned!

More details for NT49MD-24
We have a route! This year we’ll again start at the
50 Moraga Ave. parking lot (at
Graham Ave. ) on the South end of the Presidio Parade Grounds (San Francisco 94129). Gather by 9:30 AM for a driver’s meeting.
We will end near food trucks that typically offer a range of cuisines from South Asian to Ukrainian to American (even poke…).
As you expect for San Francisco, some roads are steep, some are narrow and some are both (be sure your brakes are good…). I recommend that Matt Brown bring his tii, NOT his truck! A narrow road with cars parked on either side means an Isetta would fit comfortably.
Yesterday I drove the DRAFT route, which took me 3 hours including a few stops and round-the-blocks looking for better photos. But I’m removing a hill (with steep, narrow streets) from our final route so it will take you less time. I’ll also add a few more comments into the route instructions to help prevent confusion (what, San Francisco streets may be confusing? Even Google was not precise everywhere yesterday!).
See you there!Welcome to NT49MD-24_drivers protocol & announcements 241213.doc

Update 13 December 2024: I posted the Drivers Protocol and the route instructions for our NT49MD rally tomorrow, for your download convenience (you may need to be logged-in to download). It will rain tomorrow, but I expect to proceed anyway (well food trucks may avoid the Presidio, at least during a torrent...). I hope to see you at the driver's meeting at 9:30 AM!

Update 14 December 2024 PM: Well, just a few cars appeared for our rally. While disappointing, the local weather-guessers implied more rain than anyone cares for (OK, the last big rain in 2022 was an atmospheric river and about 10 cars drove). Actually it was raining lightly, on and off, between 8:45 and 10:30 and by noon it was partly sunny. See the photo of the parade grounds after Matt's "truck" completed the route.
In case anyone wants to drive the rally separately, perhaps showing friends or family what San Francisco is away from Fisherman's Wharf, I attached the photo key that shows the correct photo numbering and the photo locations.
And finally, we're still looking for a new Rallymeister so let me know if you know anyone who wants to help us find the hidden treasures and postcard views that make San Francisco an interesting and eclectic place to call our home.
Happy Holidays!
Larry
