Pretty straightforward but figured I'd take a few photos and post. More good info here.
This is for a 1976 BMW 2002 with manual 4-speed transmission.
You will need
- 2 Quarts Red Line MTL
- A Fluid Quart Pump
- 17mm Hex Driver
-
Tools to get a plug removed that is probably pretty stuck.
- Free All
- Breaker Bar
- Pipe to turn a ratchet into a breaker bar.
You can see where the plugs are in this photo. Make sure to take the fill plug off first. If you drain it then can’t get the fill plug out, you won’t be able to re-fill. Also keep in mind the fill plug is in a tight spot between the transmission and floor. Something more compact than what’s seen here would be much easier.
Drain plug has a magnet to catch metal bits and keep them out of the gearing. This mine after cleaning.
Pretty self explanatory once both plugs are off. Put the drain plug back in, pump in the new oil, put the fill plug in and go for a drive.
