  1. Hi, Its paused for summer. Have it 70%stripped down, motor out, interior, windows etc. Tried to remove the dash pad but that was stripped out glued to ready to break apart so i let sleeping dogs lie. Had it glass bead blasted and covered in urethane primer. Found minimal rust and body work, have a hole around the pedal box to repair. Ill post a few pics later. Thanks for asking.

  2. So, I printed a copy of the full Manual on my home printer. I wont buy a HP again. It took a ream of Paper, 1/2 bottle of refillable ink, many jams and errors, 3 or 4 days, and a few Cocktails. Success, I now have a complete factory manual in 2, 2" Binders. Cool.  I had them in my car as I drove up to the garage, I pulled them out and set them on the roof to bring in. I wanted to study the electrical diagrams and hopefully answer some question. I wasnt there long before I realized the Beer fridge was low and I should run to the store before I crack one open. Cool, this will be a good evening, sitting in the garage, flipping pages of my still damp manual, drinking a frothy one, good tunes in the background. Sounds like a good night. I run out to the car, back up , turn around, head out the drive way. All this time thinking Ale, Lager, IPAs? When DUMBASS strikes. As I pull out onto the street and accelerate I hear a noise. I look in the rear view mirror. I see it! A cloud of white sheets of paper that just exploded and were now billowing in 1 huge cloud! AHHH I left the manuals on the roof!!!!

Fortunately I live on a secondary Street, no traffic, I get out and start picking up my mess. Dumbass, no worries, Im gonna need more Beer, Ill put it back together, arrr, pages werent numbered, I think theres Vodka in the house.

  3. Hi, Im restoring a 1972 2002 base.

    I need:

    Bottom steering column cover

Left of steering wheel Hi/lo stalk

Hardware to bolt cover and steering column back into place

Working ign key cylinder and key

Driver side rear quarter glass green

    usable trunk spare wheel pan

    usable passenger side front fender

    usable front bumper with brakets

front nose lower half replacement panel

    Front and rear windshield

    Front and rear windshield rubber

    usable headliner

    front seats

ALL parts needed to convert none AC to AC

    4 speed shift knob

I can go on, I will be searching and buying all theese part over the next 3 months

Cars getting stripped for paint, will start reasemble in a month

  4. Hi, Car fired up tonight. Got a electric fuel pump, tapped the carb a few times, Thumbed key and it started. Ran it a minute shut down. Checked everything, fired it back up and ran it for a warm up cycle. Ran good, surprisingly, idled but carb was slobbering. Problems i found were: Gap on points closed up, Missing its Ign. voltage step-up feed/wire, Fouled plugs, Missing plug wires, Missing its cyclone valve?

Engine ran well, settled into a blubbering idle. Warmed up, ran cool, water choke worked, 13.5V at the battery. Shut down, did compression test. Cyl 1234  155, 148, 155, 158 psi. That will motivate you.

  6. Coil was purchased at NAPA, A recognized brand, I dont recall. Zero ohms between posts. Printed on the side "no resistor required". Im still using the ballast resistor. I probably wont keep this coil, its just a temp fix so I can check out the motor. Eventually all will be upgraded to Pertronix. The Flamethrower coils come 3.0 and 1.5 ohm.

  7. I didnt spray before switching the coil. That coil may still be good. A new set of plugs were probably the most suck bang blow. $33 for a new 0 ohm coil, probably not the best. Eventually it will go to a pertronixs system. Although Ive ran points in my old BMW motorcycles and never had any issues. But but, the coil was 48 years old, they do deteriorate and get weak. It sucks when they fail.  My last coil failure happened in a boat, on a River, with a 5 mph current, glad somebody was sober. Actually saw it failing with erratic Tachometer readings.

  8. This is how I found it, Im not saying its right, just found how I found it. Only 1 wire to + side of coil from ballast resistor. 2 Wires on the - side of the coil. 1 going to points and 1 going to the tach. I assume.

  9. Success, it started. It only ran off Starting fluid so I didnt run it for long. It washes the oil off the cylinders and detonates when it goes lean bad bad. It did run and ran well. No mice plugging the exhaust. Showed up with a new coil and Plugs and that did the trick. Tried the remote start switch but the circuit was drawing to much current at the starter for the switch to be used, Id have to trace back to the relay if I wanted to use it.  Next ill get a carb rebuild kit and a fuel pump rebuild kit. Again, I wanna get it running before I tear it down, funny but I wanna see how much money I have to dump in it before it gets restored.

Any suggestions on Electrical connector suppliers, and rebuild kit suppliers?

PS Thanks for the Banter, the gal just stares at me....

  10. Going to try and start again later today. Showing up with new plugs, a coil, and a remote start switch. Going to be checking spark. Have new plug wires. Has ballast resistor 11v one side 9 volts other, working. The car's completely stock. Still has original blue covered brake lines. Heres a few pics. Whats the relay above the coil? I read its a speed sensitive relay??? kinda like a rev limiter?? Haynes manuals suck! Inaccurate Elec diag.. Regardless it had a few chewed wires. temp repair. There are a shit load of corroded terminals every where. Have voltage drops greater than 0.5v. Any suggestions on good automotive connector kits or source? Im trying to get vehicle running and warmed, get rings to seat again for a accurate Comp. and leak down test. Right now im lucky to see 125psi. It has a Weber carb, was this stock? Is it any good?

  11. Looking around I guess its replacement is a 3.5ohm coil. not far off what Im showing now. 4.3 ohm. Coil maybe ok. Vehicle has a 2 barrel Weber. Im sure the carb is all fouled up. Im just going for a pop bang and spilling a little fluid down the throat. Havent check timing yet. Cranks fine, the starters worn, but cranks. Im sure theres bad grounds every where, bad connectors, chewed wires. Theres alot it could be. Coils are cheap. Next Ill visualize spark color and intensity.

  12. Hi All, Opinion about a coil please. Trying to get 72 2002 running thats been sitting for ever. Checked cylinder walls, changed oil ect. before cranking. Before it began its long slumber a new cap, points, and rotor were installed by previous owner. New parts showed absolutely no wear. I think they tried a tune up but never got it going again. Using a test light the coil wasnt turning on/off. Diagnostic lead me to points gap way to small, .006", increased gap to .016'. Coil started to cycle, test light flashing. Still wouldnt start. Plugs from previous owner showed signs of a rich condition, black fouled. But a weak spark could do the same. Ohm-ed coil. Primary side between +/- terminals 4.3 ohm, Secondary between +/ and center 9000 ohms. Im think it has a weak coil. What do you think? Im curious if that took it of the road years ago. The owner was having trouble and thought a tune up would solve their issue but it had a failing coil that was never diagnosed.

  13. Psst are silly questions ok? My turn signal stalk seems to be on the right side of the steering wheel??? Is that original stock position? Can it be moved to the left (normal side) of the steering wheel?

  14. Hi M2M3, was underneath the car Sunday. No other surprises found. The rear subframe mounting areas are solid, light surface rust but nothing major and no repairs needed. I havent pulled the back seat yet and checked the tops, is that a concern?
