  1. Updated the DropBox link with a few pictures of the binder I put together with all documents. It shows all maintenance and repair work completed since 1969, only two owners (I am the third).

Also, turns out the Opel GT wheels are no longer available. I must have put them on another client car, so this BMW will come with the BBS-style rims as pictured in the Dropbox photos.

Please PM me with any questions.

    Thanks everyone!

BMW Archives:  info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com.   Email them the VIN and request their data.

Mind you: the car doesn't appear to be color-changed, but the exterior color is one of the few things we can actually confirm!

I've seen a few examples of Chamonix with a black interior (all early cars, e.g., '66-'68) but never an example of a Chamonix with saddle from the factory.  Alas, pretty impossible to prove, since "early" window stickers ('66 through '74) don't show exterior or interior colors.  Dated cards inside seat bottoms and backs can disprove the originality of an interior -- e.g., seats dated after manufacturing date or months before manufacturing date.  But dealers did things like swapping interiors to sell a given car to a given buyer (my dealer suggested and happily swapped lowered front seats out of a new sunroof '76 for the standard height front seats with which my '76 left the factory, so my "highly original" '76 does not have its factory-installed front seats!).  If the carpet is original, and is gray and dark gray (a.k.a., salt-and-pepper), I'd be reluctant to believe a saddle interior left the factory with the gray carpeting; saddle typically came with multi-brown or brown carpeting.

All in all, the car appears to be highly original, so it could simply be a case of a dealer interior swap.

I'd certainly recommend that a buyer keep the car's original rims with the car, even if they don't choose to mount them!  The completeness of the original package is one of this car's strengths.

    Regards,

    Steve

Thanks for the info Steve! Much appreciated. I do not have any history on the seats as to wether they were swapped at the dealer, but I do know the carpet was "refurbished" at one point in the 90's. It's possible someone changed out the carpet set at that time, but the records are not detailed. I really wish I had the true original wheels, but they never came with the car.

I will post more pictures next week, along with some of the records, to give everyone some more clarity.

    Thanks!

Good point, Jim.  Good question, although I believe VIN 1664750 (just 85 cars earlier) is generally considered the changeover from long-neck to short-neck differentials.

I would be shocked if this were originally a Chamonix car with a saddle interior (I see the underhood sticker for Chamonix).  Originally Sahara?  Originally Nevada?  Interior swapped?

    Best regards,

    Steve

I will check the records to see if there was paint work done, but as far as I know this is a Chamonix car.

Well I was hoping for a better look at them. :)

Do you have a better pic available?

    Thanks,

The original wheels are at my storage facility, along with all the extra parts for the car. I wont be able to get to it for a couple weeks, but will post pictures once I do. I just moved up to the San Jose area recently, having been from San Luis Obispo. So a lot of my stuff is still down there.

Do you know which wheels are on it in the embedded pics above?

I don't know the name or model of those wheels, but they are the original wheels that were on the car when I bought it. I still have the original wheels and they will come with the sale. The wheels that are on the car now (in the Dropbox pics) will also come with the car.

It's still got the same 94/194k on it when "Vroomer" had it for sale 10 years ago. Stored or odo not working?

    Where did Vroomer go?

I bought this car in San Luis Obispo, CA from Rob Torres @ 2002 Haus a few years ago. Rob was storing it and working on it for one of his out-of-state clients. I have a 72' Tii that I am restoring, and I bought this 69' from him as a daily driver while I work on the 72'.

The pictures I posted above are from when I first bought the car, so its likely the miles never changed since it was sitting. The miles have rolled over and its now at x02,100. Based on the records, I believe its rolled over to 302.

    Current pics are coming soon...

Is that a glass moonroof or just a different colored steel panel?  Could be the sister car to my 69. What's the VIN?

It's a solid metal sunroof. When I bought the car, the sunroof was dismantled for replacement but the owner never got it done. So the sunroof was left outside and it completely rusted. I will post more pictures tomorrow when I get a chance before I go to work.

    VIN#1664835

  8. Price: $8000
    Location: San Jose, CA

    Description:

Hello everyone, I am selling my 2002 after a serious love affair. I am moving out of state, and wont have time to bring it with me and continue my slow project. This BMW is a restoration candidate if someone is willing to take it on. I have cared well for this vehicle and am looking to place it in a good home. His name is "Snow".

The pictures below are from when I first purchased the car @ 2002 Haus in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Please PM me with any questions, thanks!

    Exterior:

White, has been repainted prior to my ownership but will (obviously) need more paint and bodywork. As far as I can tell, all rust spots do not penetrate through, and should clean up nicely for restoration. No accidents, all original. Wheels are aftermarket, I do have the original if you want/request them.

    Interior:

Tan, front seats have tears and carpet is destroyed. Will need full restoration on seats and carpet. Dash is cracked, big surprise. Comes with Nardi steeling wheel as pictured, I do not have the original wheel.

    Drivetrain:

Original engine and transmission. Engine was rebuilt prior to my ownership, and is very clean. I have started to notice some oil leaks at the valve cover and timing cover. Currently the engine is running rough and likely needs a small tune up in the form of sparks, wires, and maybe a new coil. I installed a Tii mechanical distributer when I purchased. I recently replaced the original Solex carb with a Weber K909 single barrel. The Solex started to leak fuel, and the Weber is just a stop gap until the Solex can be repaired. Car will come with both carbs. Transmission works well, no issue.

    Documentation:

I have all records of this car dating back to its original owner and sticker in 1970. Has original black plates (not the new fakes one in CA). I also have a lot of extra parts and would be willing to sell them at an extra cost if interested.
