I don't know the answer but, absent anything specifically authoritative on the Stilautos, you might look to analogous alloy rims of the era where we have more knowledge because they were produced in greater numbers. For instance, Cosmic rims appear to have universally been originally black-painted with only the outer faces exposing bare alloy. There must be other examples useful in establishing a range of likely possibilities.
(I'm not certain if it is analogous, but Borrani forged some alloy rims for Alpina ca. 1969 that almost look like steel rims -- a few people say the rims are bi-metallic. They made the outer rim silver and the inner center a very dark gray, not unlike the factory 2002 turbo's standard steel rims.)

Does anyone have any idea what the dark paint is at the centre of the Stilauto Diana Wheels? Just bought this set but its completly polished, the Diana ones on Andy Andexers Diana are darker between the ridges, would like to have mine the same. Would be great to ask Andy actually if anyone has a link... ?
