Looks good! I'm getting ready to buy a lot of the same stuff to rebuild my front and rear suspension, so a lot of this looks very familiar. All that hardware makes me shiver, I've been dreading having to go through it all and make sure I didn't lose a bolt or washer before I get it all plated.

Not the faintest idea as to how I missed this thread. Ryan this car is the tits, always a pleasure/inspiration to see what you're up to with these little cars.
I need to read up more on tii engines, some of those parts have my brain hurting.

That air dam looks killer, especially without the hub caps
-
Both cars are looking really good, I'm excited to see what those wide steelies look like with the car on the ground. Also excited for whichever car starts to make turbo sounds, everyone loves turbo sounds.
-
Thanks, I'll check that out, always looking to save some money

I have a friend who is going to shoot the primer, but I figured I'd research it all before hand just incase we have any questions. It should all be fine, but I'd rather not let the shell start to rust over while we look up a question we had.

Thanks all for the comments. Good to know that I don't need to get more than two quarts of the stuff. I think I'll go the PPG DP40 route, and end up with just over 1/2 gallon after its mixed. I guess I was hearing 1+ gallons from spraying multiple layers of color on a car.
One more question, mostly for esty and Toby, how many passes do you think will seal it properly. The car is going to be in this primer for over a year I figure. Will one or two do?
-
How much epoxy primer would use recommend using to spray just the body (no doors, hood, etc.) with a few coats? I've searched and found out some people use around 1 - 1.5 gallons to paint, I just don't know if that applies to epoxy primers as well. Rather have too much than too little, but I don't want to waste a lot of money either...

I was gonna comment on the paint looking very good! Good to see you recovering at least physically, that car gave its all to keep you around. Also, 'rainbow strut supports' has a nice ring to it
-
This is horrible, wishing for a speedy recovery Ryan

I think it's called the M21, and is based off the M20 block. That's another option, but I've seen somewhere that someone is going to put one in an 02 already.
I think that a Mercedes OM617 would work, it's a 5 cylinder. Some variants were turbo'd from the factory
-
@Fatherof3 I'll check those out, thanks
-
@Fatherof3 I originally thought 4BT because I've been around the B series cummins motors a lot, and because it is fully mechanical. I agree it doesn't seem right, I should start looking into passenger vehicle diesel motors. Do you have any suggestions?
TKMad, a TDI would be the second option, but if I can find a motor that isn't computer managed that would be preferable.
-
I was just curious to know how the car would react to a diesel motor and their torque. Plus, the mileage and sound would be a nice bonus
-
I originally was thinking a cummins 4BT (3.9L), but that is a big lump of a 4 cylinder. Currently researching smaller old MB or VW motors, I think those might be a better match for a 2002.
-
I was actually thinking something along the lines of (gasp) a diesel motor, just wanted to know weight-wise what I should be looking at, as some of the all mechanical motors can get crazy heavy
-
Thanks for the info @BLUNT, still up in the air with what I want to do. @jimk thats probably right, guess I'll just have to find out haha. @Rocan, would hate to disappoint/displease, but I do love a funky engine swap every now and then...
-
Hey all, anyone know how much weight from an engine the front suspension/subframe should be able to hold before it becomes ridiculous/unsafe/undriveable? And what would/should one do to increase that maximum? I'm asking because I am toying with the idea of a few engine swaps, and some are quite heavy.
Any info you have regarding this is appreciated, thanks

How much would you let the '2002' emblem go for?
-
Hey, is that wooden shift knob that I see behind some other parts in the picture still available/for sale? And if so, how much would you be asking?
IE Rear Brake Drum Upgrade Kit & CV Boot Kit
in Miscellaneous
Posted
I have an extra brake upgrade kit, along with 4 CV Joint Boot kits that are brand new. Already shipped to me on the East Coast (Rhode Island), they're of no use to me so I want to sell them. I paid just over $600, so figured I'd sell them for $500 and save someone some money close by.
IE's info (Everything they list is included, like I said, brand new never touched)
