  1. Seafoam removes carbon from the engine. If it's been sitting for 5 years you need to bring it back to life very slowly - drive it for a month until all the seals refresh, change out the fluids, etc. De-carb is probably the least of your problems. It'll be better to do it after it settles back in and the fuel mixtures settle down and etc.

I just bought a tii that'd been sitting for 4 years. The difference in the way the engine responds now to when I got it is very noticeable.

And even then, I'd never do that to a tii. Youtube for why.

  2. eBay has several options like price research and completed listings that tell a better story. If you do completed listings for 2002's you come up with only 9 of 21 sales being completed with the others failing to sell 'Reserve not met' or 'Best offer' not accepted. Highest price paid for any 2002 was $10,099 for 1974 tii. Next highest was an M20 conversion at $8,000. All other prices were below $6,000 with the bottom $749.

there are 2 more that got bid up to 20k and didn't meet reserve. are you calling shenanigans?

  3. I'm also neighbors with Bob - I live across from Cambrian Park on the San Jose / Los Gatos / Campbell border. I'm sure I'll see you both as we frequent Saratoga and Los Gatos.

I just went to add my 74tii in the registry and found out someone had it registered previously. It's been in storage in Santa Rosa since '08 and I purchased it from Good Stuff auto about 2 weeks ago. I understand it was originally from Truckee, CA - which might explain the very thorough undercoating job.

Anyone have any other info on it?

My neighbor has a white 74/5/6 2002 sitting collecting rot. If anyone's interested I could knock on the door and see what the status is.

    Thanks,

  4. Thanks, Mike! Neither of those would lead to the crunchy shifting, right? Sounds like I need to just take it somewhere and get the tranny looked at?

On that topic, does anyone ever drop an automatic in these, and will the usual 320i gear bolt up? I have a bad left knee, so commuting in traffic is a killer.
