  1. gorgeous '02!! what kind of wheels are those and where might one procure a set?

You won't beleive it but the wheels where around $300 for all 4! (found on eBay) brand new, +0 offset, 15x8, 3" deepdish xxr wheels. Best bang for your buck ever!! The wheels on my last project car were almost 10times more, literally :X and didn't look half as good.

  2. This week my beloved '73 has officially been assigned a new home. Jeff (jrkoupe) from Nebraska will now be the one to enjoy it for years to come. Wish them both luck! As a final farewell I had a pro photoshoot for my own last official pictures, and Jeff's first official set. enjoy!

As we give our final farewell and remember the good times, long nights listening to music, all dirty with a wrench in one hand and a beer in the other.

  3. if no one is serious enough to take it, the next things on my list to do over the winter was to change the tranny and diff oil (maintenance), maybe tear out the headliner and put some checkered fabric up there, umm and to make it look amazing i would get it sanded down and repainted. the paint on it now looks good but up close you can tell the previous owner's body guy didn't give it the best paint job to make it all one color (alot of new fiberglass upgrade parts that were unpainted). my priority isn't to make it pretty, it was to have a raw & fun car this time around. if i wanted a show car i would have kept my 6series lol. email me [ricardoportela@verizon.net] this way if you want any more details/pics i can send them :)

  4. Hi, Rick. I'm a long time 02' fan and am seriously interested in your car. I'm in Kansas, so I'll need to have it shipped. Please call me at 913-626-1659. My name is Dan. Thanks

Hey, shoot me your email. since you can't make it to see it i went out today and took a picture of anything and everything on the car you would be looking at (the small imperfections). Also i'll send video's of it idling, and driving, and more detailed pictures since you can't come and look at it. I took some showing that all the electrics work, the headliner, the trunk, close-ups of the engine and so on. my email is ricardoportela@verizon.net

If anyone else is interested in the same photos/videos, let me know!

  5. will post detailed/labeled pictures tonight.

    TobyB-

that was how i got it down the 1.5k rpm. The butterflies weren't completely shut once i adjusted the idle screws until they no longer raised the throttle links (i assumed before that they were actually all the way out. i have sock filters on the carbs and could not see the butterflies at the time). I took the links off, and adjusted the lengths so there would be no pressure on the butterflies with no throttle -so they can be adjusted correctly with the idle screws then.

    AndyLeonard-

I'm thinking its possible it could be something timing related, maybe a off combo with the 292 cams? there was a split second where I got the idle where I needed it but it was jumping up and down, not just the idle moving, with the motor shaking like crazy.

I do have a Carb Synch, I'll get the number posted here with the pictures.

  6. update--

after contacting the p.o. he confirmed that when the webers were put in and the engine was rebuilt, he had 292 cams from IE put in. he said it was compression tested and all tested even.

I was able to take the linkages apart so I could make sure they were even for both carbs, and just by doing that i got it down to 1500rpm eventually... but still too high. no matter what adjusting I do with idle or fuel mixture it doesn't go down. i have to be doing it wrong

  7. when i bought the car it had been sitting for years. one of the carbs where leaking out fuel like no other. I knew absolutely nothing about carbs at that point, but after doing some research I had an idea of the culprits. I left the car there and they replaced all the gaskets, jets, and the floats (one became a sink). The idle was around 1500 at that point and i knew i had to work on a few other things before i could do a final tweek on the carbs. Out of nowhere it was randomly at 3k rpm while driving.

Last night i was looking at the linkages between the throttle bar and the butterflies, and they're all out of wack. one was turned down longer than the other. I'll try messing with them till i get the butterflies closed with the adjustment screws all the way out. hopefully it's that easy. I'm sure there's more to it, but i'll keep my fingers crossed. If i'm able to get together with Stone i'm sure it'll all get situated real quick.

  8. Thanks stone. I would highly appreciate it if you could.

I've been working on newer cars my whole life. all of my previous cars were german 2000's+ with turbos or big v8's so learning from someone that knows more about carbs would be so fundamental for me at this point. i finished around 15 other fixes on the car myself but it's always the carbs that leads me to ask for help on the forum. It killed me that I had to take it somewhere to have them rebuilt ..i've built two other cars that were featured in eurotuner, and this little bmw is the one stumping me..

I'm available everyday after 5, and actually off all day tuesday. let me know!

  9. Seems unlikely you'd get to 3000 rpm all of a sudden without a vacuum leak or stuck linkage. Remove the booster hose and plug the manifold to test. Assuming you have no vacuum leaks...see above...relieve all linkage contact - especially between the 2 carbs - and back out both throttle stop screws all the way and see if the butterflies are sticking open. Maybe you even stick a little screwdriver in the bore and push the butterflies shut. If they did a real rebuild and removed the butterflies and didn't get everything centered, you may have one side sticking open.

Thanks for the insight. I checked the vacuum line to the booster and the hose itself is in almost mint condition with no leaks at all. Like you said, i'll try and disconnect the linkages completely and see if they're adjusted wrong. I can't believe I overlooked that. Thanks for the help! and i'll keep you posted.

anyone else with some possibilities while i'm in there?

  10. The idle on the 2002 is running at 2500-3000 rpm and i can't figure out whats going on for the life of me. It's a 1973 tii converted to dual dcoe carbs. Still that high even when adjusting the fuel mixture, and idle screws to not even being open. I have a new set of headers and a new downpipe coming in now so i'll be in and around it some more real soon. i know i have exhaust leaks in them now.

even after disconnecting the throttle bar it still idles that high. I did just have the carbs rebuilt (float became a sink lol) and they did put in new plugs. maybe they could be the cultprit? any one know what the recommended spark plugs are so i can cross that off my culprit list?

*the idle was 1500 a few weeks back, then it got very boggy and was trying to die on me at idle, then when back on the road it magically was at 3000rpm, and now a couple weeks later at 2500.

P.S. i searched and searched, read and read, and not much info on this issue with dual carbs/ tii carb converted '02 :(

  11. ^ what you just said is making perfect sense to me. now i have air in other lines that i didn't before. however, i'm pretty sure the reservoir never went empty but it is possible it got too low for comfort or the level fell below the top tube of the reservoir?

I have a pressure bleeder now. i did buy new fluid. QUESTION! if the fluid that is being removed is still in great shape, can it be reintroduced into the reservoir (might be a dumb question)?

    SDC12722.jpg

  12. If you have no leaks and no brake pressure, your master is blown or there is so much air in the system that it can't pressurize.

I would check all of the hard lines going to the master to see if they are wet and leaking. The other area may be in to the vacuum booster. Is fluid disappearing?

I would have voted for seized caliper pistons prior to your loss of pressure issue.

could it be possible that it's an issue with the caliper itself, and when bleeding it it allowed more air to enter and made it worse?

  13. *UPDATE*

Well i thought maybe i should get my wife to come out and do the 2person brake bleed. but after a while, still no luck. THEN i realized that there is NO pressure anymore at all. so now there are no brakes. any ideas?

no leaks, no nothing. looks just like it did before but now the pedal doesn't get firm at all. turned the car on and still no change. great.

  14. Well, I better post here since I am beggin for parts, LOL, My Name is Sean, I Live in Lancaster Co. Pa, and spend my week in DC working for some Govt dudes, had a few Bimmers over the years E30 Cabriolet, E28 533i for the wife, and my E36 M3 (I miss her) now I have a 74 2002, that was someone else's project car that seemed to overwhelm him, so now Its my project....slowly my little car was coming along, it is here in MD, and while I am here I work on it. I am not restoring it to be a garage or trailer queen, I am making it a driver! any help you folks can give will be greatly appreciated!

BTW I found a download for the 2002 factory manual in .PDF and and parts lists in .jpg, and if you like, let me know and I can share it with you in the cloud (Skydrive), or email what you need

    Cheers,

    Sean

    Hey Sean,

Still have that owner's manual? I'm in the same boat, bought someone else's "project car" which pretty much means alot of things started but he was way over his head. A few months later all i have left on my list is 1.fixing the brakes issue and 2.tuning the webbers (just had them rebuilt). the list was 3pages long at first haha and it looked a hot mess. surprisingly i only have 7k total in the car including the purchase price
