  1. Hi Folks

I need a trap mirror mounting base, the metal bit that bolts to the sheet metal on which you attach the mirror. I have the gasket, mirror and screw but it's my understanding the base is NLA, at least according to Maximilian.

If this is not possible, are there details and photos available for me to fab one?

Any help is much appreciated either way.

    Thanks!

  2. Mine is Box of Rain, Grateful Dead. Why?

    1. Era correct for the car

    2. The car itself is sort of a box

    3. Bob Weir had a '74 tii and he said it was the best car he ever had

I envy the person who has the Alpine 7307, I have been looking for one of those forever! I have an ADS powerplate, driving ADS 300i's, but need the 7307 and maybe a pair of ADS 320i's to complete the picture!

Hmm I wonder what Lesh drove when the money started coming in?

The PO installed 300i's in the parcel shelf... I also hear he was a big Neil Young fan too.

  3. I picked up a refurbished Alpine 7307 with a dial and look forward to exercising numerous Grateful Dead tapes once it's installed.

If my speakers could handle it at the desired volume, the Massive Attack vs Mad Professor record No Protection would be another excellent option.

Early New Order, XTC, Curtis Mayfield, Yo La Tengo, Neil Young, Descendents' Milo Goes to College, I could go on and on. And I have 8 Maxells full of 70s stuff: AM gold, soul, yacht rock, etc. I especially enjoy these on road trips as it reminds me of when I was a kid on my first car trips.

  4. Sounds like your heater control valve is stuck closed as well, if it's oriented toward the firewall it's on cold, toward engine, hot. Mine was really stuck but I got a wire through the little hole above the cable bolt and gave it all I had and it loosened up after that. Lots of penetrating fluid and then lube spray and it works for the first time in 15 + years

  5. 73 2002 - mech fuel pump/008 dist/Weber DFV/manual choke/I'm forgetting some other stuff...

Hi everybody... Finally had the car out about a month ago for the first trip since the brakes work. Hooray! 70 mph on 35W to the dog park, stopped at my sister's, went to put some delicious non oxy gas in and it wouldn't start after I went to pull away. I topped off (9 gallons) on to the old, old gas that was seafoam'ed and it cranked but wouldn't catch. Very hot day, BTW.

Got it home, and after it cooled off it would start (right up!) but wheeze and die when accelerator was pressed. Some (whitish) smoke from the tail and a big engine shudder when turned key turned off. Checked vacuum on (new) brake booster hose and valve and re-torqued carb base bolts. Carb (Weber DFV) looks ok, I guess. I sprayed carb cleaner down the barrels and not much was different during and after. I haven't done anything with the gas tank or lines except tighten a couple hose clamps. The feeder in the trunk flows fine, Made a mess in there.

*Question: vac leaks at intake manifold are rare, right? Would a beat gasket at the exhaust side matter? Any other vacuum areas I forgot to check?

Fuel filter is brand new and clear, fuel pump (mech only) spit plenty of gas in a milk jug, new cap and rotor (which has improved the ignition but not the current issue). Points look OK...

My apologies if I forgot anything; I'll keep my eye out for any queries from you guys, and thank you already.

I'm losing precious time in my (first since '95) 02 season!

  6. Super duper, thanks guys... I was hoping to have the car up and running before the Benz/German show, but, alas...

I shouldn't have slept in the morning of the Intermarque show or many of you guys would have met me already. Bummed I missed the bulk of that one.

I am hoping Blunt will have some more of my $ soon... he's been quite helpful and sales tax aside, pretty cool to have a super-pro nearby.

I'll probably skip breakfast since I want to bring my dog (is that kosher for car shows?) but look forward to saying hey soon.

    best,

  7. First off, I gotta say I'm glad I own an 02 because it's a fantastic car; second, this forum and its members are equally fantastic and make the process just that much easier. I haven't needed to post a question as they seem to have all been answered, and I am hoping to contribute some invaluable tips at some point along the way.

I finally got my second 02 back in October (first was a $500 rusty Verona '73 I had in 1994-95) and I have been slowly getting used to regularly working on a car again, which has been fun. Thankfully the rust on the new one is surface to minimal, but the car has been sitting for at least ten years with minimal exercise (a couple times a year, max) and the sorting has been slowed by an insufficient cash flow. I hope to have it rolling (unimpeded by brakes that need work) by July so I can take advantage of our short season up here and meet some more of the locals...

Speaking of which, I was in line to vote in 2004 at De La Salle in Mpls and had a funny 'holy crap you're a 2002 guy too!' moment with a neighbor, and I missed getting his number after we voted. So if anybody knows this gentleman, he's mid-late 40s by now, let me know. Or if you're reading this, I probably need to borrow some tools and I am still in the neighborhood... my lady said she saw a green 74-76 on East Hennepin about a month ago, so ???

More later, and thanks again forum folks...
