  1. I have a shift pattern decal in my E9 showing the shift patter and a set of numerals up the side.  I do not like it because I can see the decal itself.  I found a guy who will make a transfer so that the only thing visible after the transfer will be the white shift pattern and gear numbers (plus R)

    I can get these in 4 speed, 5 speed and dog leg.  I need to commit to 100 to get reasonable prices so, is there any interest here at $15.00 each ??

    Stan, please count me in for one of each of the above shift patterns.  Thanks!

  2. Hi Paul,

    Thanks for your accurate description + pictures, a free set of lettering decals will find it your way soon....

    I will be working on this the next week or so & they should come together nicely.

    I have one question however, how much interest in the dash lettering? I will make the lettering as a stencil only and would like to know how many sets to make....

    The paint can be an oil or enamel type & testors or tamiya hobby paint should be fine + I would suggest a clear coat.

    Once I make the decals/stencils, that will be it (no reproductions) so an accurate estimate would be helpful.....should I make 5 or 50 of the lettering stencils is the questions....

    Thanks,

    Mo

    Mo, please count me in as interested in the dash decals or stencils for my '72 tii.

  3. I saw the post on Instagram and thought it might be COOP's tii!  Congrats on being selected!  Comedians in Cars is an absolutely brilliant show.  Agree that Baldwin killed it in that episode, but for me, the all-timer was Jerry taking Carl Reiner to breakfast in a Rolls Royce, and then joining Reiner and Mel Brooks for dinner at Carl's house.  Jerry picks up food at Nate n Al in Beverly Hills in his 70 911S.

    Great to see the tii getting such pub!

  4. Spotted in Sunnyvale today in a parking lot off Arques close to Lawrence. Very Nice Malaga 72 tii.

    Anyone???

    Sorry for the late response to this, but that's my tii.  I had driven it to the office on the day you snapped that pic.

  5. Having just gone through a search and ultimately the purchase of my '72 tii, I have to say that the Hemmings estimates lag the reality in the market today.  First, few folks are selling, so supply is even more of an issue than it is just by virtue of the small number of remaining "good ones" out there.  Recently, an Inka '72 sunroof car that was originally from CA was listed on this venerable site and sold quickly at full price, which was $32,500.  That was NOT a fully restored car, but rather a survivor with some mechanical and cosmetic freshening.

    Second, what few cars I did find that were for sale in the West were north of $30K, at least one being north of $40K (and that one was a square taillight car!).  I looked at an original, survivor early '72 tii, no sunroof, but long term ownership in central CA.  The owner had no intention of selling it and he told me that he turned down $35K just last year.  The guy had a car collection in his barn that very clear said he didn't need the money.

    I appreciate that this may sound somewhat self-serving, but I think a good, straight, original tii is a $30K proposition all day long and probably more, and if you happen to own a car like that in a desirable color, with clean interior and solid mechanicals, I think $40K would not be outlandish to ask, with the expectation that it will take a true enthusiast or collector to step up and pay that.

    Paul, I have never seen your car in person, but based on the photos of it, I think $30K would be an absolute steal and could be low by $7500, not that it's actually for sale!

  6. I can tell you where I was coming from, having just bought a '72 tii recently, the first such car I have owned since the early 1990s when I was in college.

    I have always had a great deal of nostalgia for the 2002, as my first car was a '76 2002 and got my first tii in 1991. Over the years, as the market for early 911s has gone past my means, and the number of appealing alternatives is small, I started thinking more and more about another tii. I believe that a lot of enthusiasts who had high hopes of owning an early 911 are probably in the same boat, as noted above, ergo, the rise in prices.

    It is pretty clear to me that a clean, straight tii is a $30,000+ proposition right now. Even cars with little nits (like a snorkel nose) are still in the mid-20s. During my search, I drove a restored 74 Euro tii that was available for $45,000, and I know of a "best in class" restored 74 that had $85,000 into it.

    It's about time that the rest of the automotive enthusiast world has started to recognize the value in the 2002. For those of us that have them now, I believe that values will continue to rise.

    YMMV.

  7. The car was also on eBay and I noticed that the auction had ended.  I had communicated with the seller about the car prior to finding one local here in the Bay Area, but it seemed very nice.  Ryan Gangemi did the engine rebuild and was the indie mechanic who sold the car to the current seller.  Aside from the headliner, seats and steering wheel (original seats & wheel are included per the ad), it's a very nice, original tii.  Whomever ends up with it will likely be very happy.

  8. Year:: 1972

    Make:: BMW

    Model:: 2002

    Location: : San Jose, CA

    I am looking for a clean, condition 2+ 2002tii.  I owned a '72 tii back in college and I have been feeling nostalgic for one these days, so my preference is to find a roundie, but I am open to exceptional '74s, especially with correctly done Euro bumper conversions (or true Euro cars).  Condition and originality trump all other criteria.  I am willing to wait patiently for the right car and I'm willing to pay the going rate for such a car if/when it becomes available.

    Thanks for reading!
