it's easier to pull them both together, but you need a leveling bar for your engine hoist. Well maybe not "need", but it makes it a whole lot easier. If you have access to an automotive lift, it's pretty easy to drop everything out the bottom too, you just have to disconnect the suspension and take off the brake calipers and hang them from the body so you don't have to re-bleed the brakes. Either way it's not an incredibly difficult job. Try pulling an S4 motor, that's a giant pain.

Anybody have any idea what transmission would be best to use in an m52 swap? I've been driving my fiances z3 and I love that motor, much, much nicer than my m20 in my e30 and for the same weight as an m10... sounds like a giant pain to put in, but perhaps would be worth it. Ideas and opinions would be great. I am mechanically inclined and worked up untill recently in a Porsche and BMW shop as a mechanic, so I have a good idea how much work I'm in for. So regardless of diffuculty of install, what are the drawbacks? The way I see it you're getting s14 power with a much smoother torque band. Basically the weight gain is going to come from the transmission which is in the middle of the car and isn't going to mess with the balance... I'm thinking it sounds too good to be true. So what do you all think?

I agree with gordon, don't chuck the shell, I'm sure that someone would buy it off you if you didn't want to keep it. I think the best alternative is to swap it over until you get your engine rebuilt then do something fun with it

I've got a buddy that has a couple, neat cars, but neither of us has had our cars in good enough shape to compare them on the street. if you're looking to buy one, good luck finding one in decent shape. that's the nice thing about the 02 is that it's relatively abundant

Have you checked your brake booster? try disconnecting the vacuum hose and see if that fixes it next time, I was having a similar problem and a different booster solved it

both wheels spin because there is an even load, no reason for one to spin more than another. If you have just one wheel spinning in the snow, you have an open diff

thanks much. I would love to be there, but I don't think the car would make it and that's two weekends before finals.

where and when and how do you find out about it?

What could I expect to pay for an m10 in ok condition? I need to do something about the one in my car because it's leaking oil like a sieve and the one in my garage I don't know the condition of only that it has a blown head gasket. I have a burning desire to be able to drive my car, but I can't because of this (and a few other minor problems) Thanks

I was curious if the denver area guys were going to get together any time soon, because I would love to see all the cars and meet everyone. it's kinda lonely up here in fort collins, I know of a few other cars in town, but don't know the drivers. thanks

is it just me or does it seem to be sitting a little high?

can't help you there, that's still on my to-do list for the 02, and it's not being driven at the moment due to blown out shocks so it won't get done for a while

I've always gotten them off of tool trucks, but you can by a suction plunger thing (thats the technical term) that works great for filling diffs. I'm sure you could find one relatively cheap at a harbor freight or something like that. just a grease gun looking thing with a plunger and a flexible tube at the end.

well I normally drive spirited anyway, and if you say that it's driveable, then thats what I wanted to know. it won't be a daily daily, just an option on the nicer days, and somethin to do canyon runs in. where did you get the set up and how much work was it? was it worth the cost over just a normal efi conversion like from the 318is? thanks for all your feedback

I was just wondering if anybody has done an individual throttle body setup on an M10. thinking 9.5 to 1 or 10 to one compression pistons with a schrick 304, running alpina style header, just somethin a little hotter to autox and track, but still daily friendly. I'm obviously thinking efi, probably megasquirt or somethin similar, electronic ignition... also contemplating trying to find a twin cam head for it. was considering turboing it for a while, but then came to the realization that I like na engines better. would also like to keep the M10 because I have an unnatural attatchment to it, otherwise would consider S14 swap. opinions?

tricky thing, that exhaust note. isn't it odd that no matter what exhaust is fitted, mustangs almost always still sound like mustangs. I'm gonna have to agree that the only way you'll get that sound is to mount a boxer engine, but if you wanna build a 2'baru I'd be all for that too, but you'd have to take me for a ride in it

My radiator was punctured yesterday so I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade when I replaced it. I went out and got a 320i radiator but discovered that the ports are opposite of my original radiator. I was wondering if maybe I got the wrong radiator? Or does anybody have pictures of how to install this radiator? Salvage yard says it came out of a 79, it says behr on the top and has a roundel on it, but the top port is on the right side and the bottom port is on the left.
Thanks

No Reason to not keep the m10, people ouside us making insane amounts of power out of it, one car in switzerland making 430 ish with lots of boost. The F1 teams back in the day used recycled blocks cause they were already heat treated making 1500 hp. 200 is reasonable, dunno why you'd wanna cross breed it, if you want a nissan buy a 510.
