I'm looking for recommendations for a mechanic that can get a Glas GT engine running. I'm in the Pasadena, CA area and would prefer someone in Los Angeles County. Not looking for a restoration shop just a wizard of a mechanic. Thanks in advance

I've been restoring and upgrading 2002 round and square tail lights for years (decades, actually).  But the river flows, and retirement may be in my future before I know it.  2002 lights have not been coming in to the shop lately, maybe because I have been away from the forum... well, I'm back and will continue to post on this topic.

Some years ago, I was sent a pair of (Glas/BMW) 1600GT lights, and restored them for a fellow in Connecticut (Curtis King, I think).  This is when I noticed and later verified they are the same units in the early 2002 models!  I have also done work with 2002 Touring lights, but they are a tad larger and slightly different than the 2002 round tails.  Similar enough, though, to be perfectly amenable to the same improvements.  Bigger Appearance, Brighter Output, and Better Reliability with redundant bulbs in running lights (tails).

I've been off the forum for a while, but am getting back to it now.  I am resuming my offer for headlight, round and square tail light upgrades and restorations for the safety of your rear (and front) ends.  After all, "they ain't makin 'em no more." 

Eventually, I will consider retiring my rear lighting business, and would like someone who is clever with their hands to consider taking up the torch!  You may not make a fortune doing this, but you will earn the gratitude of a strange but passionate sub-group of BMW fans.  It's kept me in scotch for many years... for which I am grateful!

its been parked for a few years, wants to run but wont actually fire. Did have it turning over for a bit but not any more. It’s super close and I can tell it’s something dumb, unfortunately I am also something dumb so now we’re in dumb^2 territory.

Distributor— can someone just send me a photo of their distributor to plug connections? I’m pretty sure I’ve got them in the wrong order, I’ve been looking at wiring diagrams but that’s never been a strong suit of mine.

Trunk— we locked the trunk when I picked it up. Now I can’t get it to unlock, and second to getting the distributor wired up correctly, I want to replace all the fuel lines, or at least verify they’re clear. I replaced an inline filter in the engine compartment, it is getting some fuel. It had a small amount of fuel sitting in it, safe guess it’s varnished, and likely the entire system just needs pulled out and inspected, replaced, reinstalled.

But I can’t get the damn trunk open. Any advice there?

I have a bmw mechanic friend I know would be into the work but I’d rather feel like I checked off the boxes I can before inevitably paying him for some help.

i have a Haynes manual coming, is there a better one?

As can be expected over 5 decades wheels are replaced and become almost impossible to find.

With support from BMW Classic CCA and Glasclub in Germany we are trying to locate "needle in a haystack" and hope one day we find a set of GT wheels for sale. In case you have a lead, please contact me.

In the meantime, my GT has too wide E30 BBS wheels (6.1/2J x 14 - ET30) that rub inside fenders when I turn. Will post some pictures with alternative 14" BMW wheels that been fitted on other GT's and like your feedback which route to take to replace BBS wheels.

new member, but I used to be a member when I used to own a 1600-2, not sure what happened, but had to sign up again.

Anyway, I own a few BMW´s and have owned a few bunch of them in the past and love to hunt for old Bimmers. 

A lot of people know me and know that I like BMW´s, so this time, someone sent me pictures of seems to be a 1600GT that I still need to go see by myself and obviously negotiate, but it seems in really bad shape due to rust, but these being so rare, I wonder:

What should this be worth?

Is it worth restoring it or sell it as a whole for parts?

Would anyone be interested? Car is in Mozambique though...
