soo............ i bought a low mileage engine from a guy is hopes for a quick swap, but everything has gone to shit at every corner.

 

 

so right now, i have a 1.6 m10 (i was told it was 2.0 but after some research i was told it was a 1.6). and the issue is now that i threw my 2.0 intake manifold and stock carb on there....

 

and im having a alot of trouble getting it running right....

 

 

does the intake and carb gona make that much of a difference?????

 

also is there a food stock carb rebuild kit?

 

3) is there a cheap upgraded carb?

Well. You have a carb setup to run a .4 liter bigger motor so it wont be very efficient. The manifold should be the same though. If you put a 32/36 on it and jet it for the 1600 you should be OK.

Before tossing more money and jets at it cover your basics, check all joints and hoses for vacum leaks, esp around carb base and intake to head mount, plug your brake booster line and see if any improve performance, after engine checks tight and right then go to jetting etc

The biggest problem is the intake ports on the 118 head (1600cc engines used this head) are much smaller than the ports on the 121,E12, and E21 2.0 heads (the 2000cc heads) If you are using the 2 bbl manifold from the 2liter engine there is going to be a huge step in the wrong direction where the manifold meets the head, fuel is going to puddle on the bottom of the port and the turbulence is going to make it almost impossible to get it to run correctly no matter what jets you use. The easy fix is to find a 1600 manifold and carb and bolt it to your head. If you really want the 2 bbl carb then you need to match the ports in the head to the intake manifold, this means taking the head off, take a die grinder and start removing aluminum (don't recommend this for the novice, have it done by someone that knows what they are doing)

I'm using a single barrel set up. And before I put the intake manifold back on the head, I was examining the intake ports and they seem to be the same. This car has been a huge frankenstein engine. And most of it has been without my knowledge.

I think also what might have happened is. I played with the adjustment screws and now its all out of whack.

I have a single barrel solex. Are there any rebuild kits?

I've never touched a carburetor before this car. So I'm learning a lot along the way. What's a good upgrade for beginner carb users?

First take a look at the serial number on the block:  if it begins with 156 or 157, it's a 1600 block.  Next check the head:  if it says "118" or "118ti" then it's a 1600 head; if it says "121ti", "E12" or "E21" then someone has put a 2002 head on the block.  Once you know for sure what you have, then you can figure out what to do.
