  1. NOS Lens, chrome ring and gasket, never used, right only, shipping extra
  2. I've been trying to stay busy by tackling small items while waiting on the body work. There are quite a few metal work items to be completed before it will be prepped for paint so... I reflocked the glove box Reassembled the blasted and painted or powder coated headlight buckets Refurbished the Roundeies (before on the left)
  3. I've been chunking away at the car in small bits and pieces as time and money allow, I figured I'd write an update to keep myself honest with the progress. I took the advice given here and have been addressing the issues that could potentially injure or kill me. I've replaced the fuel filler neck, fuel lines from the sender to the carburetor, adjusted the valves and cleaned up the engine bay. I'm impressed by the increase in 'pep' from the motor with the adjustment, and the elimination of fumes is important when driving with my 9-month old co-pilot. I also bought the LED taillight set from Blunt, I was initially upset about my impulse control, but I'm impressed by the light output and I can chalk it up to a safety improvement as well. Here is a side-by-side of the running lights, stock on the right: A keen eye can see that the motor is running way too rich. I wanted to get the motor tuned and desmogged, and since I was unhappy with the tone of the exhaust I opted for a full change. Since it was welded together from the downpipe back, I sprung for the full Ireland kit from header to tip. I sawzalled the old exhaust off, removed the header studs and replaced with the Ireland studs and copper nuts, then wrestled it into place. I'm missing the exhaust hanger mount just past the differential, so the exhaust bangs around during starts, but it is a major improvement. I'll take it to a muffler shop for final adjustment, but I don't have to push the car into the street to start it anymore for fear of waking the baby. I removed the smog equipment and received a valuable lesson in tuning the motor. The previous owner tuned the motor with a vacuum leak, so it was dumping excess fuel in the mix in an effort to overcome the leak. I made the vacuum leak worse by using the wrong silicone gasket-maker when installing the Intake manifold block plate, so the car would not hold idle. The carb was torn down and inspected, the jets are nearly identical to C.Diesel's prescription, so the car is finally tuned and happy - starts on the first crank and is totally transformed. I've got Porterfield R4S pads, new rotors, rear drum shoes and stainless lines waiting in boxes on the garage floor for a free weekend. I wanted a running car to bed the brakes properly, so that will be upcoming. The tires are dated 2003 (rear) and 2007 (front), so I opted to upsize to 15" wheels before getting better rubber. The wheels are Style 10 and will be delivered tomorrow, hopefully I will be running them by next week. Sorry purists. I found a set of E21 comfort seats locally and installed them. They do not match the interior but I now have a place to sit without getting tetanus. Finally, I got frustrated with the finish of the original paint and tried a bit of rubbing compound on the trunk lid, and... it left a clean spot. I've been working panel by panel with it, and though half of the car is in primer, I'm satisfied that the Orange is coming back to life. My co-pilot seems to like it, and my goal is to have it safe enough to drive from Sacramento to Brisbane and back next month. Cheers!
  4. I'm such a big advocate for safety components on our vehicles but also want to look cool doing so! ? I highly recommend these LED rear taillight set up kit! They are engineered LED circuit boards designed specifically for our 2002s to fit in perfectly for the lenses whether you're a roundie or square! I've been reading about too many rear end accident stories - that if our cars can be a little brighter... the better to be noticed! It doesn't make Tesoro immune .... but I think all 02s should have these! Makes it safer out there for us to drive our beautiful babies! As Bill Arnold installed these for me... he said they were 'insanely bright!' ? Here's a pic of 'before' the install and a video of reverse, brake, right, and left! TESORO LEDS.MOV

  9. Location: : Golden, Colorado OK, as promised, here is the "Round" version of my rear light upgrades. Both sides shown. Car used for development: 1972 2002, Malaga, VIN 2582401, now semi-retired as an SCCA vintage racer. This pair is for sale, hopefully in exchange for yours to benefit the next lucky 2002! Methods and improvements also apply to square lights. During 28 years of ownership, there was suffering and abuse at the hands (front bumpers) of bad drivers crashing into my backside. My realization, they couldn't see me because of some combination of inattention, alcohol induced fog, and very dim tail and brake lights. So to improve my visual profile (conspicuity) on the road, I added a second tail light to double the apparent size, increase light output, and increase reliability 'to the moon.' With two tail light fimlaments on each side, there's very very little chance that both will fail, meaning there is always a tail light working on each side. Reflectors are also cleaned, stripped and resilvered to increase the amount of light getting out through the lens where it will be seen. And with clean lenses, your lights will "shine like the sun." High output bulbs are used, and additional high output bulbs are available for stock tails, turn signals front and rear, headlights, side markers, and reverse lights. All have nickel base as required by BMW. One pair is done. Pics show round lights side by side for symmetry. Square light cars have similar improvements. Please review and ask questions... Here are some answers to ones I get often: NO, this does not melt the lens; been there, done that, do not care to repeat. It's a low wattage filament in the brake light - it makes more light, but less heat than the tail light makes. NO, it is not illegal to add a second tail light, or a third, or a 27th. Fewer than one is not legal or smart. NO, it does not blow fuses, overload wiring, or melt your headlight or brake light switch. No, you do not have to cut wires, damage anything, or make solder or crimp connections. All that is done here, you just plug it in and enjoy. I have sold many of these lighting upgrades, and the owners seem to be very impressed, happy with the increase in lighting, and glad to be far more visible on the road. UPDATE- 15 July 2015 I have recently improved the design of the wiring changes to the lights, making it simpler to install, and to un-install should you ever want to return to the stock lighting configuration. This past week I have restored and upgraded three pairs - two round, one square. What are you waiting for?

  12. Hello, Sorry if this might be a newbie question. What are these two rectangular rear lights (shown in the picture)? I see some cars with and some without them. Is it possible to remove them? I personally think it looks much nicer without those lights. Once removed, I imagine there will be holes in place of those lights? PS: I am currently looking to buy an 02, and do not have my own to remove them and see whats on the other side! Thank you, DSW

  16. I did a quick google search last night but did not find the exact information.... Before destroying my red center lenses, is there a good write up on taking the lenses completely apart for cleaning? So far, I've removed the tiny screw that holds the chrome "spider" piece to the lens and popped one of the red reflector segments out for cleaning (it only had a dab of glue in each corner holding it in place). The white reverse segment is held in place by some plastic tabs that want to break if I pry the insert. The remaining red segment has a continuous bead of red colored glue holding it in place. I soaked the lens in my kitchen sink with soap, but there is some dirty water stuck behind the (2) segments. Any and all advice is appreciated.
  17. Price:: 1.00 Location: : Lake County, Ohio Hello all, I'm new to this, but one of the members on this forum (John Harvey) suggested I list all my items on here after he saw my garage Lots of pieces and parts to various cars/ unfinished projects. Please see pictures. I will add more as I drag things out of the garage. You can see a lot of the parts on the Facebook 2002 group as well. Please make offers, want everything possible to go to a good home but need it out of the garage... No reasonable offer has been refused yet! Please send me any questions and I'll check with my father as they were his cars/projects. Thank you for looking!!
  18. Hey all, I'm selling some red center roundie tail lights and I'm wondering If I have them listed on Ebay for too much $$. They've been on there for 6 days with no bids! I also put them under the market section on here but they just got buried right away under new listings. I think $150 is fair considering that they're in good shape with only minor flaws that I covered thoroughly in the description. I figured they would get a lot more attention than they are getting! If they don't sell on Ebay then I might re-list them on here. Do you think the price is too high? And if anybody is interested, they'll be on for another 4 days. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-VINTAGE-ROUND-TAIL-LIGHTS-fits-all-1600-and-2002-models-up-to-1973-/121282324018?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c3cfd6632&vxp=mtr
