I've been wanting to produce these for some time now, and although many of you (including myself) want to see bigger projects like the aluminum fender flares done and up for sale... these were a "must do" and I'm glad to be producing the first run. Made from impact resistant polycarbonate/PETG these durable covers protect your expensive headlamps from damage while enhancing the 'rally prep'd/track" styling of your 2002! 7" version fits many common vehicles (bmw 2002, E9, etc.) and is designed to work with OE sealed beam bulbs and upgraded H4 conversion bulbs as well.

All taped up and ready to rock and roll! August 18, 2016
Lisa.02P posted a blog entry in Lisa.02P with her Tesoro & Derby
Got Tesoro back from detail all shiny and ready for the first road trip to Monterey for Legends of the Autobahn and Festorics weekend 2016! Needless to say, Tesoro was in good company getting detailed! To preserve the paint, I taped around him like they do at rally's. It may have been a bit overkill to do something like that, but how many of you would do the same especially after a full ground up restoration... on a black car??? ;-) See you in Monterey! Thank you to Bill Arnold for the adjustments, oil change, and your wonderful service! ?- 10 comments

NT49MD-20 Pete route & photos checked 201206.pdf Welcome to NT49MD-20 announcements and drivers protocol 201207.doc Not the 49 Mile Drive, BayArea 02's annual rally, comes to San Francisco again on December 12 (2nd Saturday in December). At about 9:30 A.M. we will meet at a new location: in The Presidio across the street from the Officer’s Club (50 Moraga Ave ., the Moraga Parking Lot). From here you can start route instructions and driving protocol you downloaded and can purchase a NT40MD-20 T-shirt or a BayArea 02 mask. Rather than a driver's meeting please download the driving protocol sheet; all cars will be off by 10:00 AM. After encountering some major, minor and probably weird roads and alleys around San Francisco (we never leave The City) we will meet again in a parking lot to review the photos in the handout that each navigator will have numbered during the rally in the order of observation. Note: in deference to the pandemic, this year does NOT include lunch! Pandemic rules: if anyone is at all sick, please do NOT come! Wear your mask at all times when outside; social distance at least 6Ft.; clean your hands often. Please be careful— we do NOT want any spread of the corona virus from or to anyone! Rallymeister Pete Petras has our rally route ready for your download. He works in The City so he can easily encounter the fun and delightful highways, byways and avenues that help us discover hidden gems, gorgeous views and surprising streets that make San Francisco such a unique adventure for all of us living in the Bay Area. Join us for the fun rally, wave at your friends from a social distance and learn and enjoy some of San Francisco’s road history and quirks. We recommend driving with a navigator from your family, so the driver can drive and the crew can give turn instructions and watch for the rally photo locations to number in viewing order. Solo drivers are also welcome. Kids are always welcome to ride along and provide keen eyes! Be sure to highlight 12 December on your calendar for the NT49MD-2020 rally! Note: You can see a few photos from NT49MD-2019 at [https://www.bmw2002faq.com/forums/topic/253416-nt49md-2019%E2%80%94-not-the-49-mile-drive-saturday-14-december-20/]. Photos from 2015 are at [http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/174801-2015-bay-area-2002-not-the-49-mile-scenic-drive/#entry1079809 ]. Larry Ayers IMPORTANT ADDITIONS!! I added the files for Route Instructions and Driver's Protocol-- PLEASE download these files and print them for your reference on 12 December or save them on your portable computer to read during the rally. The Driver's Protocol is both Welcome to NT49MD-20 and instructions we would normally have in a Driver's Meeting which is cancelled due to gathering prohibition. There are a few porta-pottys available near the Moraga Ave parking lot where we start (actually, pottys are at Sheridan & Arguello), but the normal restrooms are closed at the Presidio Visitor's Center due to construction. Other restrooms are available at Chrissy Field or eventually in Golden Gate Park (see route instructions). I do have some T-shirts and face masks available for purchase: $10 per shirt and & $5 per mask, cash or check. Since we are not "gathering", sales will be one purchaser at a time. Please realize that with just 50 shirts ordered, sizes are first-come, first-served. Remember, this is a car rally, not a prohibited "gathering", so please be sure to have fun but maintain safety from the Pandemic! NT49MD-20 Pete route & photo KEY checked 201206.pdf

Not the 49 Mile Drive, the BayArea 02 annual rally, appears in San Francisco again on December 10 (2nd Saturday in December). Meet at Ocean Beach between 9 and 9:30 AM across The Great Highway from Beach Chalet on the West end of Golden Gate Park (just like previous years). Fulton St.is the cross street and the entrance to the Ocean Beach parking lot. Following our driver's meeting, we plan to have all cars away by 10:00 AM. After navigating roads throughout San Francisco we will gather again for lunch at a restaurant and review the photos in the handout that each navigator numbered during the rally in the order observed. San Francisco native Beck Diefenbach is our rallymeister again this year. He delights in finding the hidden treasures and beautiful views that reward us for living in the Bay Area, and the unique and interesting paths to get there. Join us for the fun rally, see your friends, learn and enjoy some of San Francisco’s road history and share some BMW tales. We recommend driving with a navigator, so the driver can drive and the crew can give turn instructions and watch for the rally images to number them in viewing order. Solo drivers are also welcome, although there could be a navigator or two available before drivers get underway. If your 02 is under the weather, drive your other BMW on this rally. Kids are welcome to ride along and share lunch! Watch this Forum for the latest details (also see [www.bayarea02.com] and for photos of last year's drive [http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/174801-2015-bay-area-2002-not-the-49-mile-scenic-drive/#entry1079809]) and be sure to mark 10 December on your calendar! I had the pleasure of designing the route again for the annual Bay Area 02 group's "Not the 49 Mile Scenic Drive." The name comes from a contrarian's opinion of San Francisco's 49 Mile Scenic Drive, a route which zig-zags across the city connecting all the famous touristy crap. As a native San Franciscan, I am in love with the ridiculousness that is the hilly streets and spiraling roads of the city. This year I was able to find what might be the only dirt road in San Francisco. Edgehill road is on top of one of the many hills of San Francisco. A small one-lane street circles the peak, one side of which is a dirt road, although some people thought it may have just been a paved road that hadn't been maintained in 50 years. Also important to me is finding the many roads which give amazing view of the city that not many know about or typically get to experience. I drove ahead and tried to make some nice pictures of people in their '02s with the nice backdrop. This year I incorporated the Presidio which such an amazing place. So many hidden gems this this neighborhood of Infantry Terrace. The houses are all rentals because it is federal land, but the buildings are terrifically preserved and act as such a time warp when you drive through. But of course it can't be a 2002 drive without a few hiccups. One 2002 wouldn't start and another lost its break caliber bolts on one wheel. Thankfully both were able to head home after the drive. We ended the drive on Treasure Island again this year. TI works perfectly as it is technically part of the city of SF (rally rules are we cannot leave the city) and island provides space for parking 20-30 cars at a local pizza place.

The originals were always a bit toadish-looking, so it's not surprising to read the comments section about the new styling. Scroll to the far right in the pictures for a lowered GT version complete with wing, splitter, and diffusers... looks tough. Should be interesting, in any case. http://www.autoblog.com/2016/02/16/alpine-vision-concept-official/#slide-3800290 Ed Z

I am currently working on a 1976 02' and im making a custom fog light mount for the front of the car. The lights will mount on the bumper mount (the big shocks sticking out of the front) via a slanted cross beam welded to the shocks. I however want to shorten the shocks (because they stick out like crazy). Ive read that you can just drill them and collapse them but I dont really want to spray the fluid everywhere, I was wondering if there was a more humane way to do this?

Two (2) Marchal 8" New-In-Box, never installed or used, Driving Lamps. "Required Price" is NOT $100.00! but is site auto-fill default. H2 x 55W bulb type, higher wattage bulbs will fit and use fine; large metal (not plastic or aluminum body) will sustain any higher heat. Focusing lens is glass, unscratched and unmarred. Really like new. Original boxes for "Starlux / iODE / S. E. V. Marchal" show some wear and old clear packaging tape, adhesive and residue: B+ - A- condition on the boxes, A++ on the lamps. Price is best offer. I'm going to research this I know they won't be cheap (?) but I will sell to a serious buyer and user. Even if for show. No covers or caps. Stephen

Hi Everyone-- Thank you for participating in Not the 49-Mile Drive this year. I had fun and from your comments, you did too! Please add your photos to the Not the 49-Mile Drive 2018 album in the image gallery to help us remember the fun. Here are the route instructions, as you received at Ocean Beach and also the photo key so you can verify the proper order of when you saw these images. While some locations are straightforward a few are discrete. Photo-2 is at the corner of 30th and Cabrillo as you turn onto Cabrillo. Photo-3 is at the Legion of Honor. Photo-7 is at Geary and Polk. Photo-8 is on 16th St. just before Van Ness. Photo-9 is on the Dandelion Chocolate building on 16th at Harrison. Photo-10 is at the corner of Chanel and El Dorado. All of us should give Rallymeister Pete Petras a thank you! for a great rally! NT49MD-18 FINAL route & photos 181201.doc NT49MD-18 FINAL photo KEY 181201.pdf

Not the 49 Mile Drive , BayArea 02's annual rally, comes to San Francisco again on December 14 (2nd Saturday in December). We will meet at OceanBeach as in previous years, between 9 and 9:30 AM. Many of you may recall that we assemble across The Great Highway from Beach Chalet on the West end of Golden GatePark. Fulton St. is the cross street and turning left from Fulton St. onto Great Highway , the entrance to the OceanBeach parking lot is immediately from the extreme right lane. After discovering some major, minor and potentially weird roads around San Francisco (we never leave The City) we will meet again for lunch at a restaurant and review the photos in the handout that each navigator will have numbered during the rally in the order of observation. Rallymeister Pete Petras is working diligently on our rally route which is almost finalized. He works in The City so he has many fun and delightful highways, byways and avenues readily at hand to help us find the hidden gems, gorgeous views and surprising streets (and maybe some awkward allies) that make San Francisco such an intriguing adventure for all of us living in the Bay Area realm. Join us for the fun rally, see your friends, learn and enjoy some of San Francisco’s road history and quirks, and, of course, share your BMW tales. We recommend driving with a navigator (Wells Fargo would say someone riding "shotgun", but BMW did not make Wells Fargo stage coaches), so the driver can drive and the crew can give turn instructions and watch for the rally photo locations to number in viewing order. Solo drivers are also welcome, although there could be a navigator or two available before drivers get underway. Kids are always welcome to ride along, provide keen eyes and share lunch! Hello fellow BMW and car enthusiasts: I thought I'd share with you an exciting event I will be part of putting on this October. It is the Great American Mountain Rally Revival. I have been Rallying on and off since the late 70's and a few years ago meet up with a co worker in my industry (Civil Engineering - I am a professional Land Surveyor) who is heavily involved in rallying. Steve is an extremely talented and sought after Navigator who has Rallied all over the world including the Monte Carlo, Baden Classic, LeJong just to name a few. Steve had posted a blog about this rally which peeked my curiosity as a New Englander and as a Surveyor. I spend 6 months re-tracing the original route from only written instructions. Utilizing Garmin Basecamp software, Google Earth and the internet I was able to recreate the route. Steve and I have spent many weekends running and checking the directions and noting the changes in roads throughout the rally. We will be running the final recce of the entire route this weekend. Registration is open; a link to more about the rally and how to register follows. Please feel free to contact me at GAMRR2018@Gmail.com if you would like more information. Hoping to see some of you there. Here is a summary of the event and some links to more information: "Automotive rally teams from the northeastern U.S. and beyond will gather October 12–14, 2018, to challenge their cars and themselves in a 700-mile Revival of the Great American Mountain Rallye (GAMR), a European-style endurance event that was held annually from 1953-1957 in upstate N.Y. and New England..."
