  1. Twelve 2002s showed up for the Mid America 02 Fest in Hermann, MO. The fourth edition moved to Eureka Springs, AR and has evolved into a two and a half day event featuring a drive, noncompetitive show, tech presentations, expert panel Q & A, tech quiz, awards (longest distance driven, etc), and a HUGE door prize drawing supported by sponsor donations. Of course any time 02ers get together technical expertise is not just discussed, but put to work. Electrical problem, broken exhaust system, water pump give up, need your tii or Webers tuned - it all happens in the parking lot. In recent years two owners trailered non-running 2002s to Eureka Springs and with help from others in attendance had them running before Sunday. There is no registration fee or charge for Saturday evening's brat and burger dinner. The MidAm is financed by the sale of t-shirts (and other gear) and a raffle drawn from purchased tickets for two sets of embroidered camp chairs (thanks Kathy & Milo) and two BMW watches donated by BMW of NA. Well over 50% of those attending will drive more than 600 miles. We have had folks from 24 states. This is a hardcore bunch. If you love 2002s, this is a great group with whom to spend the weekend. http://www.midamerica02fest.com

  3. Thanks Bo & Barb for another great weekend. It rained most of the day Saturday but we had a great drive nonetheless and, as usual, the fellowship was excellent. We missed those of you who couldn't make it but toasted you in your absence! Once again, we visited the Darryl Starbird Museum. He crafted tons of crazy and notorious cars over the years. Everybody seized the opportunity to fill up with non-ethanol gasoline! Nephew Greg, the selfie master, managed to capture our entourage enjoying a fine meal... Sunday morning the weather broke, the fog lifted, and sunny skies prevailed. Bill Wagner opted to follow us on my "preferred" route back toward Central Arkansas. Here Bill is, plunging down into Boxley Valley on AR 21 Finally, we enjoyed a brisk downhill run on "Scenic 7" I'm already looking forward to next year!
  4. Some of you may recall me, several months ago, stating that I first heard and then saw a wicked blue 2002 in West Little Rock which I was unable to chase down. Well I got to meet the vehicle's owner, enjoy several "spirited" ride-alongs, and snap a few photos to share here. The car, a '71 M2, was built to spec for its owner, Robert, by the folks at Vintage Sports and Restoration in Bow, NH and I must say, I'm impressed with the finished product. Furthermore, the car's owner is a true Bimmer nut and a really nice guy. Look for this car to be at the 16th annual MidAmerica '02 Fest this coming April in Eureka Springs, AR
