    intake plenum I built

From the album: Parts gathered and made so far

Boosting the m42 engine I believe this would work well over the standard manifold and twin throttle
  3. Posted from nomads2002.blogspot.com Intake Manifold DIY I'm frugal. It is more accurate than what my wife calls me: "cheap". It means that I don't like to spend money, but when I do I want a good return on my investment. I went ahead and purchased a used Weber 38/38 carburetor as an upgrade. While I have a stock cam and compression I may upgrade in the future. The Weber has larger throttle plates so it will not fit on my stock two-hole intake manifold. What follows is my "Frugal" DIY way of modifying the stock manifold work. While not "machine shop pretty" I believe that it
  4. Looking to turbo my '74 2002 and trying to find an exhaust manifold. Anyone have a good source for one? Opinions on this popular eBay mani? http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-M10-Stainless-Turbo-Header-Manifold-T3-BMW-2002-TurboCharger-Bimmer-CUSTOM-/271232131588?fits=Make%3ABMW|Submodel%3ATurbo&hash=item3f26b1e204:m:mu9mhmkKqN9f6LyPvCcII8A&vxp=mtr#rpdCntId EDIT (8/17/16): Looks like the best source for a quality manifold is from Rapid Spool Industries for $595 http://www.rapidspoolindustries.com/ordering/m10-m42-turbo-manifolds I know they make quality products - Kameron from KA Motors uses this company for his E30 M20 400+ whp builds.
  5. I am about to install a rebuilt engine into a 1970 '02 (VIN 1669260) and can't recall which manifold in my box o' manifolds goes with the engine. The parts manual isn't much help. Does anyone have pics of that year's manifold or know what attachments/plumbing it had on it? I would like to keep this '02 period correct. Thanks
  6. California requires a visual inspection and an actual test to pass smog. I have the smog gear still (although it is currently removed), but would like to keep my car in a state to where I could still possibly pass smog by throwing my old 32/36 back on come smog time. I am a novice when it comes to smog abatement, but would a car running larger manifolds, hotter cam, new exhaust, but with the smog equipment attached with a weak jetted 32/36 still be able to pass a CA smog check? How tough is it to differentiate a larger ported manifold vs a stock one? The visual inspector is looking at the carb, air filter and smog equipment (EGR, return hose, etc.) which could all be hooked up in a day fairly easily I imagine. Thoughts?
  7. want to get rid of the emissions control on my '75, want a better set of headers while i'm at it. used or not, doesn't matter. thanks!
  8. Hello, I am new to this forum, and have a few questions. First a little background- I just turned 16 and wanted a classic head-turner as my first car, and decided upon a BMW 2002 or a Datsun 510. I purchased a clean 1975 BMW 2002 for $4500 2 months ago and want to increase the horsepower. I was in central Oregon this weekend and visited my grandparents' friend who owned two 2002's in show quality. He was showing me the engine and said by installing dual Dell'Orto side draft intakes and a special camshaft, and new headers (not sure what those are), and a new inter-cooler he was able to increase the horsepower from 106 to around 180. This one was a 1976. I've got about $1000 at my disposal with a steady job so money is not an issue. Mods I've done so far include new spark-plug wires and electronic ignition, and plan on putting better performance shocks/springs in order to lower the car a bit and increase handling as well. Again, I just need to know how much a Side-Draft Intake Manifold would set me back, and if I needed to order anything else in addition to it in order for it to work (like a cam for example). -I can attach pictures if needed, and will answer any questions as quickly as I can... Let me help you help me. -Thanks, Carter
  9. I almost found an answer on a search but need further assistance. I am looking for help identifying the correct intake to water pump hose for my '74. I have a 32/36 weber with what may be an aftermarket intake. Not sure. The "downspout" of the intake goes straight down, not at an angle like a stock intake. So I don't think that part #11-53-1-266-465 as RealOem suggests will fit. The hose I need to replace looks much more like part # 11-53-1-257-371 However, when I tried to order it locally from Pelican I was told that it would not fit my car and that it was for a '98 Eurospec 5 series. I called Double02 in Hayward and they said the same thing about the 5 series, but they did mention that it may cross over for an 02. I am equally confused as I am stranded. Here is an image of the bursted hose I have removed: Any clarification or links to where this has been resolved in earlier posts would be very helpful. Thanks!

  14. I purchased a set of DCOE webers that came with these intakes. After doing some research, I decided on a rod style linkage, and these CT London manifolds do not have the provision for them. I would like to sell these as they have been sitting unused and not needed. I have all the gaskets for them, which appear to be in good condition, along with the anti-vibration o-rings. I will gladly ship them if theres interest, as they are small enough to fit into a medium sized flat rate box (around $17) sold
  15. Price:: 50 Location: : Portland I have for sale an intake manifold that I picked up along with a head. I have since sold the head, and have no need for a manifold that I am not planning on using. The previous owner painted it black. I've never used it nor seen it run, but it appears to be in good condition. sold as is, shipping can be arranged if theres interest.

  18. Selling some parts from my '73. Hopefully someone can put them to good use. The intake manifold is brand new, never used. Ireland Engineering sells it for $230, I'll take $180 plus shipping. Carburetor is an Italian-made Weber 32 DFM 5. Not really designed for '02s, but it was apparently on my car before I purchased it. Pretty dirty, but if you want it, make an offer. OEM jack is in fair shape. Needs a fresh coat of paint. SOLD. OEM toolkit includes most of the tools, so maybe you can take what you need to complete your set. Canvas roll is fair. SOLD. Last up is a Bosch vacuum retard distributor. Number 0 231 180 008 JFUD 4. Could use a cleaning, but there's almost zero play on the shaft. Make an offer. Shipping will be from Atlanta, GA. Thanks, Garrett
  19. Hi, I'm replacing the exhaust manifold gasket on my '73 2002. The old gaskets don't have the flange to protect the spark plug wires. I got new studs and nuts for it. I'm a little concerned that the nuts will strip or round off when I try to remove them. It also seems there's not enough room to get a 12mm socket or closed end wrench on the nuts so I have to used an opened end wrench further increasing my risk of rounding off the nuts. Any recommendations on the best way to approach this? thanks, John
  20. Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum. My '74 2002 arrived just two days ago from California and I'm loving the car. I'm rather youngish so driving a car this old is like nothing I've ever experienced before; it's much more raw and exciting, and even though wicked acceleration isn't there it's very immersive. I've posted a photo of the car. I'm very, very much a beginner when it comes to wrenching, so I'm slowly going through the car to check everything out. I've read probably hundreds of threads on the forum and it's been very helpful. Turns out the car already has a Weber 38/38 carb, electronic ignition, and removed spring spacers -- all things I planned to do. I ran into something that I can't figure out, however. I can't find information on the forum, probably because I don't know what to call this thing. There's an open port on the intake manifold, which is probably a peanut manifold, and I suspect it should be capped or connected to something, but it's sucking unfiltered air and there's a lot of gunk inside the port so I'm concerned. Do you know what this port is and what I should do with it? (Photo attached)
