  1. Finally got back to it with the 2002. Life is not allowing for frequent garage time, so dialing in expectations with this car has been a priority for me. Right now, I'm just focusing on what I know I can get done. Long term plans remain the same, but short term accomplishments will keep me motivated on this project. Before sending the car off to fabrication I purchased the Chase Bays booster delete kit. I know there are a lot of strong opinions on this, but this is the direction I'm going. For anyone else interested in running something similar, bare in mind it requires some modification.
  2. I bought one of the first IE pedal box bearing kits several months ago and finally got around to installing it. here is the pile of parts tools needed include: 17mm open end wrench 17mm closed end wrench (not the same as above) 19mm wrench needle nose vice grips small flat blade screwdriver (to poke the washers when installing pedals start by : remove gas pedal pull carpet out. twist 45 left to get it off pedals. gas pedal arm first. pop the little cover by the gas pedal so the pedal bolt can slide out use vise grips to pull spring off brake pedal remove brake pedal pin to linka
  3. first, cut small three sided access hole in kick panel. this has been detailed on faq before. next, create new support for bracket from some flat stock and bolt the bracket to the flat stock. then paint it, of course drill holes in A-pillar to mount it to bolt it in from the back. i put two washers between the bracket and the A-pillar to match the distance the oem bracket holds the flat bar away from the body. hook it up done..door works good as new, and may be stronger than a weld job.... NOTE - update several years later, this mod is still working fine. no issues.
  4. Please add and update this list as you see fit. 5. I mostly wait to post with big updates. Which is fine, but means I don't have much to say for long periods of time. I'm never in a hurry, I like to take my time with this car and really think before I do things. But it's also frustrating to make so little progress in such a long period of time too. I've been fighting sourcing parts, breaking things and the Arizona heat lately. I thought I'd share a recent hiccup, a part I'm very excited about picking up, and the start of the brake rebuild. This probably isn't the most interesting update in the world, but it's all part of the process.
  6. Day ~49 – Few little things and a Paint update (2016-05-23) Struts I removed the struts from the pit arms, I noticed that on the driver’s side 2 of 3 oem safety bolts had been replaced with standard bolts, so I ordered some. I painted the struts with some of the leftover POR15 I had. I gave it the usual treatment (grind, degrease, metal etch, por 15 coating). I couldn’t’ find safety wire locally (without using too much effort), but I did notice that Canadian tire sells stainless steal wire for “Hare trapping,” it does the trick. It was my first time “doing” safety wire. I used
  7. I bought these calipers that were listed as 2002 TI, TII and Turbo calipers. The pistons seem to be 40 mm. But they look nothing like the 2002 TII calipers I am trying to replace. What are these? Thanks, Jeff

  11. I have found it difficult to search and search and search for the correct bulb replacement, so I've decided to compile as much information as I can to come up with a light bulb replacement guide. This is mostly populated by my knowledge of my 74 squaretail, as well as the information that I can gather throughout the forums. Please feel free to add any information you can though I would like to keep this as a OEM replacement guide (not LED replacement guide) Please add and update this list as you see fit. 12. Today I replaced the front right caliper on my '70 '02 and was going to bleed it with a new brake bleeder vacuum that I just bought online. I opened the inner bleed screw and before I had a chance to attach the vac to the caliper the fluid began to flow freely. Not just slowly dripping, really flowing. I don't recall ever experiencing this on any car I've owned but I went ahead and let it flow. I did the same on the outer two screws and the fluid flowed from them just as fast. I assume the air purged with the fluid. I drove the car after and the pedal seemed perfect. Could this be an issue with the master cylinder?
  13. Looking for a driver and passenger side brake backing plate. As long as it isn't completely rusted through I am interested. Located in 37803.
  14. I am looking for a brake reservoir from a manual car that has the third hole for the clutch. I am also looking for a black faced tachometer. I would like both items to be in good condition.
  15. Anyone know of an entire braking system diagram for a '70 02? I want to tackle rebuilding my whole system top-to-bottom (and finding the vacuum leak) and it would be very helpful if I could just look at an exploded view of the system as a whole, or even failing that a simple list of major components. If there is a walkthrough on here that I have missed, that could work as well.
  16. Hey All, I did a complete brake job on my car yesterday and then went to use my new BavAuto bleeder and couldn't get it to hold pressure. I followed all instructions and I have all lids/caps tight, but it seems to be leaking from somewhere in the unit anyway and refuses to pump over 10psi before losing all pressure. I had to bleed the brakes the old fashioned way instead and couldn't get my pedal stiff enough for my liking, so I want to try the pressure bleeder again, but wanted to see who else has used one and what their experiences were. Thanks! Greg
  17. Hi all, Looking for new 230mm drums, shoes, and wheel cylinders for my '75. I need parts for both the left and right sides. I'd prefer stock-ish components since it's my daily driver. Thanks, Garrett

  19. Hi guys, I was after some information on brake master cylinders. I purchased a Wilwood brake upgrade (13") from IE to upgrade my 1973 BMW 2002 not too long ago, I also purchased the single line master cylinder as advised for ease of fitment. Just wanted to know if you could give me some direction on this part of the upgrade, switching from the stock double line system to the single line system and replacing the master cylinder. Any information is highly appreciated. Thank you for your time, Arlo.
  20. Hello guys I wanted to ask if anyone in the forum has bled the master cylinder in the car. I just got my brake booster rebuilt due to a leaking vacuum hose nipple gasket. my brakes are hard prior to starting and gets really soft when I start the car and drive it around. I'm going to try to re bleed the master then the brakes and see if it helps. I wanted to ask if there is a method to bleeding the master cylinder while it's in the car. I didn't notice any leaks in the master cylinder and looks to have been replaced before so I'd like to bleed it before I replace it. Thank you!
  21. So I was windows shopping on eBay last week and saw a Bosch booster go by that was intriguing. At a glance, it speaks for itself as to why.. I have no supporting numbers from any 2002 booster, so maybe we here in 02land can come together to get to the bottom of this investigation..? I need input! So in a moment of weakness, and insatiable curiosity, I dropped the 65$ and bought the darn thing... master cylinder and all. The prices was, after all, 'right'. Dimensions: Diameter - 175mm Body Length - 100mm at the perimeter edges on the "top" Bracket mounting bolt pattern - 75x75mm MC mounting bolt span - 60mm MC hole - 42mm Depth, front surface to MC actuating rod (front) - 30mm Rear push rod - too long, needs fabrication. Clevis internal width (for connection at brake pedal lever) - TBD Accompanying Bosch master cylinder: Internal Diameter - 35mm Stroke - TBD More data in the pics regarding the portion of the MC that inserts into the booster. I wasn't initially interested in the MC itself, but who knows.. Now, I don't know how the rear push rod attaches inside the booster, I haven't had the opportunity to crack ANY booster open to know. But I am sure a little cut and paste can make the back side come together no problem.. even adding the accordion cover from a 2002 booster, over the rear stand off may be doable. Any one have a Tii and/or standard 2002 booster around to measure and compare numbers?
  22. Hi there, I am in need of a little information, actually a lot, hopefully you can understand this. I have just come to the point where I am ready to do the master cylinder/brake line upgrade/switch in my big brake upgrade project, it is a Wilwood 13" upgrade from IE. So my 73' 2002 has two lines coming out of the master cylinder each going to a different brake booster, and each booster feeds a line to each side of the front brakes with one of them also feeding the rear brakes. I have attached a drawn diagram to explain and show exactly how it is on my car. What I don't understand is firstly can I run both the rear brakes and the front brakes off a single brake booster? If I can run both off one then the single line master cylinder that was provided has three out holes so two of the holes would need plugging. And if I can't run all the brakes of a single booster then I would still need to plug a hole on the single line master cylinder, where as if I just used my stock master cylinder (with only two out holes) I wouldn't need to plug any holes it would just work as it is and there would be no need for replacement. However there would be a need to replace the three way banjo on the brake booster to convert it to a single banjo to feed the rear brakes. Hopefully you'll be able to understand what I mean looking at the diagram. I just can't see how to accomplish this without either plugging holes on the master cylinder or changing the banjo fitting on the booster or plugging the banjos holes. Also does anyone know where to purchase either something to plug the master cylinder holes, or a single line banjo for the end of my brake booster. Please any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you for your time, Arlo Cooper.

  25. Normal 2002 brake booster wanted in good, solid working condition. Mine has started leaking and having the car idle at 1500 when the brakes are on is starting to get annoying. Anyone have one to spare? Thanks! -Carl
