  1. I bought one of the first IE pedal box bearing kits several months ago and finally got around to installing it. here is the pile of parts tools needed include: 17mm open end wrench 17mm closed end wrench (not the same as above) 19mm wrench needle nose vice grips small flat blade screwdriver (to poke the washers when installing pedals start by : remove gas pedal pull carpet out. twist 45 left to get it off pedals. gas pedal arm first. pop the little cover by the gas pedal so the pedal bolt can slide out use vise grips to pull spring off brake pedal remove brake pedal pin to linkage. c-clip comes off by hand or with vice grips. pull out your pedals. two bolts, 17/19 on clutch bolt, 17/17 on pedal bolt. while in there, might as well clean up/paint pedal box if needed.. here is the order the parts go in with stock bushings for reference assembled (spare pedal box used for demo purposes) NOTE - the "stack width" of all the IE parts was just a touch too wide to fit in either of my pedal boxes. i ended up using a center washer that was thinner than the stock one and shaved a few thou off the clutch pedal spacer to get the width correct. here is pic of thinner center washer when i was mocking up in demo box. and yes, you can do this by yourself... it is a major PITA to line up all the little pieces while pushing the bolt through, but doable. hard part is getting nut on end of bolt with the tight space. the paper towel visible is to prevent an ooops moment if i bobbled the nut or washer and it was going to run down the frame rail. i used needle nose vice grips to hold nut on end of bolt with left hand while reaching in car with right hand to rotate bolt to start thread engagement on the nut. soooo....was it worth it? yes. much less play in the pedals (this is compared to the new stock bushings i had in there NOT to old trashed bushings) HOWEVER...the major slop in the 02 brake system remains at the booster pivot. send your cards and letters to IE to ask them to make a similar bushing kit for this part of the system!!!!!
  2. I opened up the steering box for cleaning and rebuild today. I've been doing a bit of reading through old threads about the internals before doing this, but I wanted to know what your thoughts were on these. Should I reassemble with these or is it time for another box?

  8. I'm in the process of rebuilding my heater box, and I'm missing the little deflector vents. See photo (credit to member 02Les from another recent thread): Are these pieces still available? I can't find them on any parts diagrams. Obviously not the end of the world if I can't find them, but getting the heater box back to stock is my goal. Thanks, Garrett
  9. Searched old threads and couldn't find what I'm struggling with. I'm removing my steering box - everything was going fine until I tried to remove the drop arm from the center link. Castellated nut came off fine, but it won't separate from the center link. I've tried PB Blaster, torch, a puller, hammer, etc. Its just really stuck I've managed to destroy the plastic and rubber seal between them. Any tips or special methods that I'm missing? Is there a way to remove the box without separating these two parts?
  10. Looking for a FAQ on rebuilding the pedal box, preferably with pictures? Am I missing it? Mainly interested in the purpose of the "U" shaped part that is missing from mine: 35 31 4 440 119 currently available from Wallothnesch.com - is this for a mechanical clutch or hydraulic? http://www.wallothnesch.com/federlasche-35-03-06.html Found these links but there are only two references to that part number: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/139797-i-give-up-where-is-the-pedal-box-rebuild-faq-hiding/?hl=pedal+box+faq#entry923367 http://www.bmw2002faq.com/_/technical-articles/body-and-interior/how-to-replace-pedal-box-bushings-with-ie-kit-r125 http://www.bmw2002faq.com/_/technical-articles/engine-and-drivetrain/removing-and-rebuilding-the-pedal-box-r26 http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/86628-pedal-box-parts-i-lost/

  13. Now I am down to the last few threads of adjustment on my box so I am starting to think about what to do. From external examination the RHD steering box is a mirror image of the LHD steering box which seems logical. The question is would the internal parts be the same between the two? I wonder if the spiral raceway goes in the opposite direction? Difficult to say without stripping mine down and comparing it with pictures of the innards of a LHD box. Does anyone have any experience?
  14. Howdy, I noticed that hose that looks like it's from a dyer tore leading from the bottom of my winter / summer breather box down to my exhaust. I know it's necessary to pass smog on my 76, but how required is it to fix at the moment? Is there concern from shit flying up in there? Mice? Gremlins? Also I have a super noticeable vacuum pop on hard acceleration, then letting off the throttle, after the installation of a sync-linc on my 32/36, could this be the cause?
  15. Hey guys, thanks in advance for any help. I did a search for "mystery box" but didn't know what else to look under. Does anyone know what this box is in the picture? It has a gounded wire, a 12v switched wire, and the other ones go to...? I'd love to dump the box if it is an old emission thing or not needed but don't want to take it out if it is important. Thanks!
  16. Mold is made! (Yeah, I know... took me long enough) First piece was popped successfully! woot! Here is what I started with. After a thin coat of bondo to fill pinholes and then sanding the snot out of the original to prepare it mold making, here is a new one! v1.0 prototype of the cover is being made as I type this.. Marine grade low sheen black vinyl, similar to the original hat tray board. I am deviating from the original upholstery design (seen below) in that the speaker locations built with be black speaker cloth inserts, so that the drivers can be mounted inside the box via press-in studs. This way there will be NO visible evidence of a speaker with an out of place, modern speaker cover on the face... I am still trying to determine pricing (waiting on the upholsterers #s), a strategy for final assembly, shipping, and the other tidy work details. I can either ship them semi-assembled for speaker installation.. or because there are so many personal preferences, maybe buy and drop-ship your speakers to me and I will install them and do the final assembly, etc. I don't know..but I'm almost there. (No matter how it gets done, it will finish with speaker terminals on the base.) These details can be decided a one-on-one basis as well.. But hey! We are close!! I guess, if any one is interested, we might as well start a list here. Although I won't be ready to ship any until the end of September, at the earliest. Feel free to also fire off comments or suggestions!!!
