Hey guys, I've been into BMW's for about a decade now even being a technician at BMW for many years but am not longer working at the shop's full time. I have had a number of E30's, E36's, E39's and E46's, etc. I've sold everything except my trusty toyota beater car and am thinking about picking up either a 2002 or E21 and I am leaning more toward the 2002. I never really got to work on 2002's when I was at BMW seeing as im not old enough to deserve getting that ticket. Anyway long story short I have some basic questions before getting into this. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place but is there any documentation on drivetrain/motor swaps/etc and what is required for what. What I am really hoping to be able to do is use an m10 and be able to run it with EFI and a more new age approach at getting spark taken care of. I'm a little confused with all I have read thus far. On a side note do any other engines/drive train components drop into the chassis or will this require some welding? I'm looking to go 4-cyl turbo, so I was thinking m42/m44/s14. I know they have all been done but im trying to count how many favors I have to call in as I don't have welding equipment and my welding skills are WAY over PAR. Figured there was maybe a post I missed that had a chart/list or something saying this, this and this would bolt up, this needs this fabbed, etc. I appreciate any advice thank you.

I went to pull the Targa out of storage today. After wet nursing the battery a bit off the trickle charger, she fired right up after sitting for four months in a dormant state. I'm pretty thrilled about packing the Targa up, along with my wife's Honda Element, getting everything pulled from the Portland moving Pods into the mover's truck, and heading up to Orcas Island. The potential of starting our lives over looks like quite an adventure. So far we know two people on the island. And the Targa should make for a fun Island vehicle. I hope to meet many of the Northwest 2002 owners either in Seattle or on the island. Looking forward...

I know this is not an E24 forum but I value the opinion of our FAQ members! Plus I have a feeling my situation has presented itself in one form or another to many of you. I have an opportunity to purchase a 1982 633csi, 5 speed, 150K. It has been garaged and not started in 5 years. According to owner and his mechanic (who is also the mechanic at the indie shop I use) I was running perfectly when he parked it (Due to health reasons). It has been in a climate controlled garage with concrete floor for those 5 years and is sitting on wheel dollies. The body & paint was done on the car 6 years ago by a reputable local shop and appears to be a quality job. The paint itself looks brand new. The wear on the interior does not show that it has 150K and is quite good. Tires look to be in good shape and I can find zero rust anywhere. Motor is all original and looks clean. Saw no oil stains/drips on the garage floor. The owner just wants it gone and wants to sell it as is. My question is: do I take a stab at this without even hearing the motor turn over? His price is reasonable, even for a car that is not currently running. Our mechanic has taken care of it for approx. 25-30 years (owner is the 2nd, bought it in 1984) and says it has been well maintained and ran very well before it was parked. Should I really insist that I try and turn it over & try to start it before I buy or just take it and hope for the best. I know I don't really want to try & start it because the gas is 5-6 years old and I don't want to muck up the fuel injectors with funky gas. Should I do something like disconnect the coil and fuel line & hook up a battery just to hear it turn over? I know I am going to need to drain the gas & pump out the fuel line if I purchase it. Does anyone have any insight into what the potential values of these old E24's are? I know they have not jumped in value like the 02's over the past few years but could they? ( I know I can answer that one: maybe; maybe not!) Any information/suggestions that you may have will be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys, I have recently seen some photos from the 2016 BMW 02 Tour and have looked through a couple of the photos. As usual I saw andy andexer' BMW 2002 Diana but there was another car I saw. It looked like another Diana with the chrome headlights and it was in a colour that I don't think was a standard 02 colour. And I have found a page on Instagram about the Diana in Japan and as you all might have thought it is a clone (if you want to see this page search up #bmwdiana and it will come up). It also looks like this Diana is the Diana that is in the 12:00 position next to the Brown Diana that is still with us today and the yellow Diana that is also with us today

Hello. I am in Seattle, and I am interested in a 71 2002 for sale in Atlanta. The car appears to be what I am looking for, and I need someone to look at it for me and give me their opinion before I go to the next step of arranging a buyers inspection. With that in mind, I would also appreciate any recommendations for a good independent mechanic in Atlanta for the inspection. Please email me at [email protected] The car is located in the Virginia Highlands/Emory area Thanks. Dean

As the title says, I was inspired by Jrhone and what he was doing with a US turn signal.. I had an old set and I was bored. I kinda like it. If I could find the right color it might work. I still have my original set in case it doesn't.

As the Tii took a back set to another car project, it has been used, but maybe left a little bit neglected. This year has been a good one however. It took 1st place for best sports car at a local car show. This weekend i decided to load in the family and take them into the city for the weekend. This morning I took it for a bmw club am drive. It was a fun weekend. I remember this car as a very young child (my dad was the original owner), and hopefully my kids will have similar memories. It still holds its own on the highway, and in the bends. Great weekend!

Hello all, I've been keeping busy with my projects and recently had a wild idea to install an E36 (97 328i) Charcoal Canister into my E10 2002. I just finished a project on my E36 and fell in love with the location and engineering of the charcoal canister, so I picked one up on eBay for <$50 and decided to try it out. I didn't have anything on my gas tank vent so I had it capped while sitting and wanted to do something different than the prescribed vent canister hanging from the support in the trunk. So here are the pictures, just ran a 3/8" hose from the vent to the tank input on the canister, capped the return to the E36 intake (for recycling), and left the solenoid disconnected (open) to the 3/4" exit port, just sitting open for now (I may route this outside later, but it is post charcoal, so I'm not too worried). The biggest problem I can foresee is if I fill the tank and expansion causes gas to pour directly into the canister, am I missing anything else? Is this stupid? I'm hoping an engineer will tell me if I've accidentally created a bomb of some sort, though I'm not terribly worried of that with this simple system. I'm awaiting a plastic cover from the same E36 location, to go over the canister and allow the spare tire to sit in the same place. It is a very good design, and one I am happy to borrow for the classic. Thanks, John

I guess this could technically be called 2002-related, because I use this on when working on Schatzi, my ‘72 2002… Where I work, we have a bench-mounted electric motor with a big old Jacobs #34 drill chuck on one end of the ½” shaft and I guess you’d call it a flywheel (6” diameter, cast iron) on the other end of the shaft. Pics attached. We use it with everything from sanding wheel drums, polishing wheels, grinding wheels, to wire bush wheels (and man, can that wire wheel brush toss a small piece across the room and into the most inaccessible places…!) The flywheel does what it’s supposed to do: adds rotational mass, so that no matter how much pressure you apply to whatever is mounted in the chuck, this old beast doesn’t slow down at all. Anywayz, I wanted to duplicate this setup in my home shop, so I picked up a similar motor and big old Jacobs chuck, but I’m having trouble locating a suitable flywheel. I looked in McMaster-Carr, MSC, Grainger, and Googled the heck out of it, but no luck (only one I found was a 10” V-Belt pulley for an air compressor from Grainger.) Might anyone have a clue as to what the proper name for a 6” diameter, cast iron flywheel which mounts on a ½” shaft is and where I might pick one up? It’s been in the shop here at work for so long, no one even knows where it came from, let alone where they originally got it. In the meantime, I’m using a 6” aluminum pulley, which is okay, but not quite the same. Any help from you machinists out there would be greatly appreciated. -Bob

I used the Volvo 240 radiator in a track car a long while back and had really good results and no problems with it. I would like to do the same with a new build but don't remember several key points in the setup: What expansion tank and connections are used? What supports are used on the top and bottom especially for a car driven hard? What hoses are used for the top and bottom to a standard thermostat and divider? Pictures of your setup would be very useful. Thanks

So my passenger window was off the track and I fixed that so it now rolls up and down. But when I roll it up all the way it stops roughly 1/2 an inch short from the top. If you pull it up manually it slides back down. Idk what to do to fix it. Anyone else have the same problem or know the fix. Thank you

Can anyone help me verify they are '73 tii struts and if they are what is a fair quick sale price for these. Any help is appreciated.

Hello 02 faq. I thought about it for a while and thought I should share my service with everyone here. I bought my first 2002 two years ago, and since then have talked to a lot of 02 guys. In the process, I have helped many enthusiasts looking to find an 02 but often times they don't have time, aren't sure what to look for, or are having other difficulties. I have helped many people find their first or fourth 2002 for them, and I have begun to love doing it. If you are looking for a 2002 let me know and I would love to help out! If you find a car yourself too, and have some questions about it or any questions about the 2002, I will try my best to answer all of your questions. It is a lot of time and work so I do ask for a finders fee, because I am constantly calling sellers, gathering information, etc. For example, I helped Rudy find a nice green 2002tii, and a 318is and went to go look at the E30 and met the owner and took it for a test drive. I helped Eric pick up a nice roundie from Ryan Danco and he still loves the car and drives it every week! I have helped many more people (who would rather not be named) find what they have been searching for so If you're interested add and pm me! Thanks a lot.
