  1. Thanks, I will check them out. The OEM seat pads do not come cheap to be sure. The local dealer here in Central PA quoted me $510 each for the front seat bottom pads (part #52111824773 for the drivers side pad, #52111824774 for the passenger side pad), $327 each for the seat back pads (part #52121824775 (no L or R designation)). Throw in another $1000 for the seat covers plus who knows what for labor and you are starting to talk about some real money.
  2. Looking to reupholster leather seats for my 74tii. Thinking of going with BMW seat pads but exploring other options before I pull the trigger on any purchase. Found Upholstery Connection and the "rubberized curled hair." An announcement posted in April 2022 notes: Most regrettably, the manufacturer / supplier of this product (we buy direct from them) has unexpectedly increased the wholesale price by 250%(!) ?. As such, we have decided to no longer carry this item as it doesn't make any sense, especially since the freight cost to receive the product has also significantly increased. Unfortunately, we are completely sold out of all thicknesses and will not be restocking except for custom orders. If you are still interested in purchasing this product at the new pricing structure, please reach out and we'll take it from there. Waiting to hear back on the new pricing.
  3. Quite the transformation since your first post in December 2019. Your car looks great, glad you are getting to enjoy it! Cheers
  4. Looking for a locking gas cap with key preferably in great condition. thanks
  5. I have a set of Recaros in my 74tii that the previous owner installed along with a new rear seat and new door cards, removing the car's original leather seats. Fortunately, the old seats and door cards came with the car. I can't wait to put the originals back in, new covers, new pads, pull the Recaros out. My memory is not as good as it used to be, but back in the day I had a 76 02 that I drove all over God's creation for hours on end. I don't ever recall being uncomfortable in the seats. Maybe that's because I was having too much fun driving.
  6. Very nice car, good luck with your sale. I see PA plates. Where was the car located when it was in state?
  7. Fantastic car! You did yourself well here. Congratulations and enjoy!
  8. “Green tint, campags, air con - it's only missing the sportpaket to be the best of the best.” What options came with the sport package?
  9. Nice acquisition, one I am sure you will never regret no matter how much you end up putting into this beauty on the second go around, not that it looks like it needs a lot of work. Good luck with your project and most of all, enjoy!
  10. This thread is going to easily make it to page 8 if not beyond. I don't think I can ever look at a tii again without checking to see if there is a hole in the top of the front cowl. FWIW, here's a picture of a 72 tii, #2761229, that went up on BaT this morning with a hole in the front cowl.
  11. My grandfather owned a series of new Monte Carlos in the early to mid 70’s. Lots of great memories driving around in those cars with him! As to the 02’s, what do I know but the market for the base models has seemed stronger of late than the market for tii’s at least looking at BaT.
  12. Seems like a real steal at that price.
  13. Only the market knows for sure, but if you include the good advice provided here on readying the car for market the low $20K range sounds about right to me. Good luck with your sale.
  14. VIN # 2781801 Manufactured May 9, 1974 No hole
  15. @mattbeldon28 it's still listed on eBay with 14 days to go.
  16. I have had good service with JC Taylor Insurance in Upper Darby, PA. tel:800-345-8290
  17. I was searching the site for information on 74 tii steering wheels and came across this thread. Per @Conserv's request, I have a 74tii, VIN 2781801, manufactured on May 9, 1974. What I believe is the original wheel was replaced by a previous owner and came with the car with my purchase. The wheel itself is in rough shape but as the pictures below show is of the padded plastic variety (similar to the one I recall on my 76 02) not the faux-leather and carries a 5/74 date consistent with the manufacturing date.
  18. Every state seems to define vehicles differently. PA law defines an "antique motor vehicle" as a "motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured more than 25 years prior to the current year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformance with manufacturer specifications." A "classic motor vehicle" is defined similarly but must be manufactured at least 15 years prior to the current year. There is also a definition for "collectible motor vehicle" which is a motor vehicle substantially modified from the manufacturer's original specifications and appearance and maintained in collectible condition. Classic and collectible vehicles are subject to annual safety inspection, antique vehicles are not. None are subject to emissions inspection. Just switched over to antique plates and registration on my 73 Bavaria. The inspection on my 74 tii, which just turned 48 yesterday, is not up until November but will switch that over to antique as well come this fall. Cheers.
  19. Thanks @Conserv, appreciate the good advice. I actually just reached out to the shop here in Harrisburg that put new pads in the seats back in 1998. I am going to stop by at some point, see if they can save the leather. As you might imagine, the drivers side seat is in the roughest shape (photos below) but I would rather preserve the original leather with some patina than new leather covers if at all possible.
  20. Thanks @Conserv for the mention. The story of my car as told to me by the second owner of 32 years was that HA Boyd, the long-time GM of Manheim BMW, had a customer, a G-man who worked out at Ft. Indiantown Gap, who would buy a new car every couple of years. Boyd is said to have specially ordered the tii loaded with everything -- Schwarz, sunroof, AC, leather seats, passenger side mirror, wooden shift knob -- and went to Germany to pick it up as Boyd's wife had family there. My mechanic, Jack Miller, who owns Jack's Auto & Aero in Bainbridge, PA and knew Boyd personally, confirms the family history. I have attached the original bill of lading that shows delivery to Boyd as well as an appraisal letter from Boyd himself in 1983 that references the leather seats. I was told recently by an upholster that @bavariaboy connected me to that it was unlikely I'd be able to save the leather which is disappointing if true. If that's the case, I am going the route Steve suggests with new leather and the BMW gummihaar seat pads to recreate the original leather interior.
  21. My 74tii was manufactured on May 9, 1974 (48th birthday is Monday and gifts are welcomed!). I believe the airbox is original to the car as I have receipts going back to 1976 and see nothing in my files to suggest it was replaced. It has an indentation in the snorkel and the strap clips appear to have been painted black though they now show the ravages of time.
  22. Just had a new set of Pirellis put on this morning, 185/70, and then drove around about 100 miles. Much nicer ride. Get what you pay for with a cheap tire.
  23. My 74tii came with the original factory leather seats. Getting them recovered and put back in the car is on the top of my "to do" list. For the few maybe looking for leather, World Upholstery has replacement kits, GAHH does not.
  24. I don’t know Steve, he makes a pretty compelling case to redo the entire interior and address that slight tear in the process!
