  1. Marty…the leak remaining is precisely as you described. Note from the photo the drip at the bell housing and evidence across the steering link. We removed the pan, reseated and reinstalled and the block is leak free…so that one seems solved..so - it would appear - the rear seal is the culprit. We did have opportunity to relocate the vent for the fuel tank (eliminate that one going through the firewall) so NO fuel smell in the interior now. With the interior, stereo all sorted, it’s a real treat to drive. I am about to swap out my multi switch for indicators/ wipers and then everything (I think) is sorted…for now..🤞😳
  2. Update…a hairline crack - smallest of small - on the fuel pump has been fixed solving the leak/ moisture resting adjacent to the base of the dipstick. The other remains….and despite all my investigation with dye and powder I have to think it’s the rear seal BUT it’s so small, I don’t want to take the thing apart…😕
  3. Thank you all! Will start working through these ideas this weekend.
  4. Sorry all….I should have made clear that it is definitely oil and not coolant. My engine builder added dye to try and determine where it was leaking and the picture I uploaded is influenced by the flash from my I Phone (green color). I did not specify any features on my 123 ignition when I bought it.
  5. I have just completed a two year restomod to my 73 2002. Funny…I bought it as a pandemic project to keep me busy with the intent to sell it and get another project at the end of it but man oh man, I have become quite attached to it. Anyway - too much work done to list but the problem is two nagging leaks that are eluding me - so speaking opinions for to hunt down. New 1.8 litre block - hardened crank - 292 cam - light weight flywheel - pulley, 123 ignition- heavy duty springs…well you get the idea. Car is a delight to drive but there is a tiny leak that drops on my garage floor. When inspecting the car, I see oil accumulates on the steering linkage and where the transmission is bolted on the block , as well as a reveal at the base of the dip stick. My engine builder is maddened by this as he is extremely capable and experienced yet never seen it before. My colleague at work suggested the pressure was too high in the block and it may be coming out the rear seal and the base of the dipstick so yesterday I pulled the dipstick up to allow pressure to release at that point and I have the same issue. Do I have to try a more permanent pressure relief system or are there other ideas I could try?
  6. Ok - good advice thanks. I thought it would be longer..so this is good news.
  7. I had the same situation- went through similar troubleshooting and in the end swapped out the dome light with a new one and it worked immediately. I am suspect that the X contact within the switch itself was not contacting or grounding to the car correctly..despite pressing/ cleaning the old dome light.
  8. How long does it takes to do this task? My plan is to do front and rear (in “chrome”) this week. I have the tool at my disposal and if something was going not break or not come out right, I would rather own the problem rather than a kid at a glass shop who would feel terrible..
  9. Was my first job when I bought my car…eye opening! Help from the forum was outstanding.
  10. I am new to the 2002 fraternity myself. Bought my car off an advert on FAQ from a fellow member after researching what to look for and what to ask in some of what is being posted. I can’t tell you how helpful members have been and what a great diversion to the sometimes disjointed experiences day to day will bring us BUT plugging away at a 2002 can be…pretty special. I am by know means an expert but that car looks solid at 4K…
  11. I am almost finished my (slight) restomod….12 months…trim - interior - sound system - carpets - instruments - heater box - wheels - stuff not working - most weekends doing something ….and just received my cam so my mechanic finishing the rebuild which is well above my skill level…and dropping in a rebuilt motor in the next two-three weeks…and when I say finished…it’s only until the next thing starts acting up…but I can’t imagine someone ever make a living restoring / selling these cars if I apply any value to my time …but I can tell you, having owned a number of air cooled 911s, my 2002 has been a pleasant surprise to sensible pricing as far as parts are concerned AND the community on FAQ is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Truly remarkable .
  12. I am a little embarrassed but that is precisely what I did - and with some confidence because I had successfully done it the weekend before feeling good about the work I had done - BUT this time I BROKE the friggen speedo needle while handling it ! I was so mad I could spit - so ended up buying a new to me cluster which has been since installed. Maddening.
  13. Many thanks....just checking with the mechanic to confirm this is the right one he wants and then pushing the send button. Thanks for the tip - wouldn't have thought of this!
  14. Hello. With supply chain and all - who/ where can you source cams? Roger Tii - Bluntech - Ireland …nothing. Any ideas?
  15. It's amazing what I learn in reading these posts. What a community!
  16. Hello all. Would someone have a photo of where the wire from the door frame for the plunger switch passes through to the underside of dash? I looked with a flashlight and can’t seem to find it. I have to run a new conductor and trying to simplify the excercise…
  17. I have to assume the conductor from the right door switch was disconnected or wired into another circuit somewhere in the motor change/ electronic ignition upgrade / fan box/ radio/ cluster swap/ fasten your seat belt sign/ ignition buzzer changeover history of 49 years. The driver’s side works brilliantly and I have much work to do before it goes to my engine swap in three weeks or so…and I have vested one work session to many on this. When I have more time, I will run a new violet-brown from the passenger side to driver’s side and wire it to the diagram. I appreciate everyone’s help. Update - Ran a new conductor from drivers side to passenger side today as a test and worked brilliantly…BUT ..also had to change the dome light because there wasn’t good contact on one side of the switch So….in the end - one of my door switches was broken, both door stops were missing - passenger conductor defective…fixture switch in door position not making contact ….what a mess! It all works now just as soon as I run that conductor next weekend. btw…anyone know where the wire comes from the door frame to the underside of the dashboard so I can run that conductor? I guess my newly installed carpet on the kick panels are coming out… Thanks again to all.
  18. Yes..all of the above…but something is up with passenger side….I am wondering if somewhere along the way the violet-brown is wired through something (ignition or buzzer?.)
  19. Ok…almost there. Drivers side now works and passenger still doesn’t work. Passenger side has only one violet- brown conductor into a new switch with proper ground which (I think) it fed from the violet brown on the on driver’s side which is connected to the driver’s side switch…and I have taped of the ground on the drivers side. Continuity is there. Do I assume this passenger is somehow wired into the ignition or seat belt sign or?? because unless I am getting continuity through another device, it is wired like the diagram. This is the last question otherwise I promise because if I don’t figure this out now, my wife will have me committed. Thanks to all for your patience.
  20. Thanks John…did all of this and thankfully It appears my conductors are good because I get continuity everywhere…now new switches both sides yet had to make a pigtail on driver’s side so as to feed passenger side because there is only one blade on the new Hella switch. The PO disconnected the seat belt light and presumably the interconnection with the ignition that I glean from the wiring diagram Would that matter? Here is a picture of what I have done. I have made sure to use self taping screws in the existing screw hole to be sure ground is good. I have 12v at red on my light yet my light stays on in either position (door or switch) which is not correct.
  21. Not to bore everyone with my (continued) problem with my dome light but I replaced the switches on both doors for new ones today and dome light still not working!?. What is further annoying is that the ‘always on’ light which was working- now does not…and on top of that, no voltage at the dome light!I am really perplexed- don’t know where to go next. Ideas to troubleshoot please…
  22. I am building a conservative restomod..so purists please indulge me..just asking opinion…you see with the headlight mod I did, thinking about the 7” Hella black series…which is well…black…looks pretty cool though and is white of course when lit…mounted adjacent to what I have now OR change back to a clear headlight with matching clear driving lights Hella 500. I don’t think a clear driving light or vintage driving light works with the head light I have now so asking. Any opinion is appreciated.
  23. Subscribed. I did the same research last winter and now I am having a new one built while I chip away at my laundry list of other tasks to repair/ replace on the car in my garage. My M10 had two or three leaks in it…ran ok mind you…but found the car was simply flat..needed some life…so got started the process as you did and in the end found someone I trust to build me a new motor. 292 Cam - programable ignition- header - light weight fly wheel and pulley….along with a newly machined head/ block. I wish I could offer details to the block/ head work done other than to say I learned a lot talking about it with the mechanic - accepted the “might as well while your at it” adage by/ and taking no short cuts. That link above from AceAndrew is excellent to get you thinking about what to do…but my takeaway when I read it last year resulted in what I am doing now. Good thing I’ve put my kid’s through university already….$$ ? Your car looks great…
